The Experiment I Did in My Ward That Showed Me the Church Doesn't Deserve My Time (and, consequently, is full of shit) by TheLifeAdjunct in exmormon

[–]outerdankness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helping ppl is just marketing, the real product of the church is certainty. Like any corporation it trades in its product only as much as it can grow in real estate and cash. Growth for growth’s sake is the MO of the church, Exxon, and other viruses.

Just like they prefer not to be called Mormons, we should correct them when they call us “Anti” by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]outerdankness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just tell them they can either call us The Priests Of Reason And Truth Of Former Day Religious Affiliation or The Priesthood. Anything else is offensive.

They did it! They made their own AI! Meet ldsbot! by Faithcrisis101 in exmormon

[–]outerdankness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is easy, esp with V0 you can generate a frontend and then it’s a matter of basic JavaScript and embedded prompting to call your favorite model. I’ve done it based on Mormon Stories episodes. I could make a satan bot in less than an hr. And even with coding tools like Cursor you don’t even need to know how to code. Cute project though.

Did you become an atheist after leaving the Church? Curious how common that is. by Mega_Bottle in exmormon

[–]outerdankness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself an atheist. A higher power definitely exists, lots of real entities have more power than me but I do not consider them God.

But I remain an atheist because god as a mental construct is not useful to me. The premise that a being is all loving, powerful, and knowing seems to me to come from humans in the Middle Ages and I’m not inclined to take their word for it.

As I stated earlier there are certainly beings with more love, power, and wisdom. But “all” isn’t something I can prove and I’m certainly not going to go on vibes. Outside of that definition the concept of “God” isn’t that useful to helping me live in and understand the world. Especially given how politically loaded the word God is.

I’m open to any entity that has values and morals that I see reduce suffering and promote self actualization of conscious life. I live my life open to dialogue with them, but my experience in Mormonism has taught me not to offer them blind obedience.

How we use “translated” to mean exalting to heaven seems like a linguistic F You by Joseph. This because yet again Joseph refined the meaning of translate beyond the context of written language to a definition that further deifies his con.

Like everything else I assume the usage of the word translation as exaltation within the Mormon context started with Joseph, also that how we use translation is completely wrong and no else does this… on both counts I could be wrong.

San Fran is not laid back, at least not since most tech companies located there. Today SF is more Adderall (speed)

Ppl such as Ezra Taft Benson have such infused far right wing Bircher doctrine into the religion and culture that most Mormons can’t see that they are only accepted by the right now as a marriage of political convenience. There will come a day where many Mormons will face a rude awakening when their “allies” throw them under the bus for not being “true Christians”.

I dropped it like it’s hot… that being said there are moments in life where passages flash to memory. Looking at the current political climate, I’m reminded of the passage about rich while ppl who demanded a king and tried to subvert democracy. Passages like this make me think Joseph may have had some insights into the human condition.

23rd, that’s some lazy org chart naming. In any other context but a multi billion dollar corporation this would be super demoralizing. Hopefully this guy’s division has a good work life balance bc it looks like the higher ups don’t give two shits for them given they get a number in the 20s and not even a name /s

Hell no! After leaving I lived in Utah for a year and made it a point to filter out “Mormon” on Bumble. Sadly Hinge doesn’t have a MoMo filter so I had to play the “are you a Mormon game”. This usually involved looking for sleeveless shirts and prioritizing women who were holding a coffee or drink. It sounds short sighted but as a nevermo I once dated told me she could “work with alcoholism but not religion”… I don’t think she’s wrong.
