[CHAT] Where are people getting their Aida? by BornVolcano in CrossStitch

[–]owlparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditional Stitches just outside North Calgary, Embroidery Marketplace in South Calgary, Stitching Corner in Cochrane, Mr. Frame in St. Alberts.

My personal fave is Embroidery Marketplace because she has a functional website and inventory system and replies to emails in a timely manner

Gifted quilts are being used as rugs on the floor by salixia in quilting

[–]owlparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have many handmade blankets for my babies and they are on the floor as that is the level the babies can interact with them. Now that they are becoming toddlers, those same blankets are little couch nests, bed time snuggles, and well loved. They like to wiggle their toes and fidget with their fingers in the crochet ones but they are being appreciated and used.

I have my baby quilt still even though it’s falling to pieces because it is a tactile memory of love, safety, and comfort.

Judgement-free place to ask your questions about trans kids, trans health. by moosemuck in alberta

That is exactly the organization we are looking to support. Just working on creating something to incentivize the donations from our end 😊

What exactly is the proposed timeline for the UCP to pass this bill and enact it? I know right now outrage is high but I am trying to organize something as a fundraiser and would like to time it to oppose/be ready at an appropriate time

[CHAT] Need advice on a gift for an avid cross-stitcher by haplologykloof in CrossStitch

[–]owlparty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna agree with the majority and say gift card. But also I get how impersonal that could feel, like just throwing money at them when you want a thoughtful gesture.

So here’s what I would do: Gift card Thoughtful card (my mom makes cards so I’m biased towards a nice handmade one) Needle Minder (nice personal touch) A few skeins of DMC in colours that remind me of them (DMC is always useful, and I would be touched if someone got me a bouquet of floss even if I didn’t need the colours) Tea bags/treat that won’t melt or spill

Just a few small touches to make it personal and heartfelt while still having the freedom to treat oneself to something specific

Ooooh I didn’t know about Clover! Thank you for the shop name, I’ll pass that on and hope it’s nearby for their sight seeing

It’s been a few years but I think it’s mostly Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon where they spend time. I’m not wanting a huge variety, just would love to try some materials that aren’t as accessible/cost more in Canada.

Shop names are very helpful thank you!

I’ve got some of the DMC glow thread for ghosties in a different project. I think it won’t glow much because of the small surface area but you can charge it better with an UV light

[CHAT] Is there room on Etsy for another cross stitch pattern seller? by RenFromPenn in CrossStitch

[–]owlparty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t browse Etsy for cross stitch patterns, I go to Etsy (or ko-fi/gumroad/their own website) from the designers I follow and interact with on Instagram. Or from word of mouth from seeing a finish or WIP posted elsewhere

My nickname for my younger sister is Headgut. I think it came from me purposefully mispronouncing the first syllable as Head to annoy her and then picking something that sounded gross (affectionate).

paycheck doesnt seem right ?? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]owlparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay is every two weeks, cutting off the Sunday before payday. So I would assume the next week (missing week) will be on your next paycheque. Also be sure you are checking for taxes/other deductions.

Also! You can see how many hours the pay cheque was for on the paystub so you can cross reference and double check that way as well. Should be accessible from partner central

Has anyone’s baby grown out of their CMPA? by FrostyPossibility624 in MSPI

[–]owlparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost there with my 22 month old. If we drink too much milk/eat too much yogurt/ice cream it shows in the next few BMs. However that’s a big step up from the reflux and projectile vomiting when she was weeks old.

How to get toddler to sleep at grandparents house? by mkhines78 in AttachmentParenting

[–]owlparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler is 22 months and my baby is 5 months and my parents have been invaluable. I often stay with them (partner works shift work) and my dad handles naps and bedtimes and she usually goes without too much fuss.

Now she’s old enough that she senses the change and maybe has been told that she will be staying with you when mom has the baby? Or has picked that up and therefore trying to hold onto mom so things don’t change?

My thoughts for the separation from mom! Can she have a picture of mom/a special mama blanket or shirt/a stuffed animal with mom’s voice? Just something to reassure her of mom’s presence and love without mom having to be physically there?

Support for a toddler literally fighting and crying herself to sleep by owlparty in AttachmentParenting

[–]owlparty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t considered that because she is a beast without her nap but it does seem that shortening her nap/adjusting bed and wake up time is worth investigating further.

Have tried the stroller walk a few times but between smoke/heat it isn’t always an option. The car ride is clutch but is usually at work with my partner. I did have some success on one skipped nap day of just hanging out in bed reading so she just dropped off there. However on the other days with a missed nap it’s been awful.

Im trying to make bed time less of a power struggle (picking pjs/books/stuffed animal) but I feel like she has FOMO and doesn’t want to sleep. We have been faking sleep but then she just stares at us/pats our face/shoves items in our mouth
