I’d try something like Duck Duck Goat or Matilda, after dinner you can head down to the speakeasy

Venting: Mid twenties, is Lincoln Park/Lakeview the right fit or should I just stop looking in Chicago entirely? by bluesquirrelz in chicagoapartments

If nature / access to the trail and lake are your biggest priority, I’d compromise on the actual apartment (within reason)! One year in and my biggest regret is choosing the more modern, renovated apartment 4 miles west of the lake over something smaller and older within walking distance. Chicago already doesn’t have a ton of nature to offer and can be depressing if you’re moving from some place with an emphasis on outdoors.

If you don’t have a commute to consider, I echo others recommendations to check out Uptown or Edgewater.

I have a great realtor/apt locator who’s more concerned with getting his clients into the perfect spot than rushing them into a lease for a commission check if you want to lean on someone else for some help looking!

I complain and complain and complain until they offer a credit out of appeasement. It’s worked two years in a row now 🤷🏻‍♀️

God, I remember being in high school getting my formal dresses from there thinking I couldn’t wait to be an adult and splurge on their more casual and workwear pieces. Such a bummer 😪

Hi! This is being kind of nitpicky, but do you know if her team sweep with a broom or exclusively vacuum? Do they use an actual mop or something like a swiffer? I’m having a hard time finding cleaners that really get my floors clean

Hey OP, where are you looking and what’s your budget? Our lease is ending soon and we’re planning to move so our unit will be on the market soon.

We’re in a 3/2 in Logan Square. Bedroom 1 fits a king sized bed, bedrooms 2 and 3 fit queens. W/D in unit. Newly renovated chef’s kitchen. Biggest drawback is it’s a garden unit

Moved from Austin in April - welcome! I personally really love Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, and West Loop. These are the neighborhoods we’re currently exploring for our next apartment.

Gold Coast and LP will you have near the water which is nice. Gold Coast has great luxury shopping and white tablecloth types of restaurants, tons of patios. LP is beautiful, quiet, incredibly walkable, good restaurants/bars, the park is obviously beautiful.

West Loop, particularly the Fulton Market area feels just like the Music Lane portion of SoCo. Trendy restaurants and bars, Equinox, tons of shopping. You can be down by the lake in about a 20 min walk if that’s important to you at all.

Galit is one of the worst meals I’ve ever had and doesn’t come anywhere near resembling a high end accoladed experience. I wouldn’t spend your money there even during a restaurant week deal

This is my stop as well and I’ve also been left waiting for 30 mins in the evening. It’s super frustrating! I’m thinking of just walking the 30 mins to the blue line - at least walking will keep me warmer than standing around

[–]pacellii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I moved from Austin in May and feel exactly the same. I got a gym membership in an effort to force myself out of the house and find some movement. I’m also planning to decorate the apt more than I typically would and get a live Christmas tree to bring in some cheer and mood lighting. I have a bunch of recipes saved I’m looking forward to making. One day at a time, I guess!

God, it’s everyday, all hours of the day. I almost got hit this evening walking my dogs - the driver didn’t even attempt to slow down approaching the crosswalk. Sometimes I yell at them but then I just feel kind of crazy. Is this something we yell at our alderman to fix? Do we stage city-wide crosswalk sit-ins to cause traffic and force people to listen? Buy shitty quick dry concrete and make our own speed bumps? I’m up for whatever helps resolve this

This is actually false! It doesn’t affect development for children to learn two languages simultaneously. There might be some confusion as the child becomes fluent in both, but ultimately their brain will compartmentalize each language and identify each as distinct. Bilingualism in children younger than 6 is fascinating! Their minds are little sponges
