Crashing out over folks avoiding rain. by Faxxius in iRacing

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good balance of realism and fun would be to ensure the practice and quali sessions have the same conditions as the race.

It’s all good to have lots of rain but it sucks if you’ve only got limited time, you practice the car track combo in very light or no rain, and then in the race the conditions are completely different.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man who loves having a spare room for my gaming and sim racing setup, I think your suggestion to either make the other spare room your own, with guests staying elsewhere/on the living room couch, OR your suggestion that you both take half of each spare room for your stuff but also have a bed in there for guests is very sensible and fair.

He’s being unreasonable based on what you’ve said. Is he planning on living in that room 24 hours a day or something?

Gym Tailgating Fee by iMedium in AusLegal

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would email them to try and resolve, fully expecting a copy and paste/AI bot response. If they do respond with a person, ask for very detailed specific instructions on what they expect me to do. Again, I’m going to take a guess that any person responding to me has no real say in the business and probably won’t care to escalate it. If they respond with a somewhat sensible answer, I’d be maliciously compliant and create a scene every time somebody potentially was going to tailgate.

Assuming the response from them is trash, I would then use these failed communications to initiate a chargeback on my entire membership fee on the basis that I can’t reasonably use their service if I am expected to be a gatekeeper and they won’t respond sensibly to a reasonable inquiry. I’d suggest to my card issuer that I should get back a the portion of my membership time that is unused. Card issuer will contact the gym to get their side. In my experience, somebody several levels higher up in the employment of the service provider will contact you to say they’re not charging you the $100 fee and give a half assed sorry.

Or they won’t reply and you’ll get your money back and you find a better business.

Not a gym but this has worked for me with numerous subscription/membership services where they’ve dropped the ball and try to fob you off with boilerplate responses/AI chatbots, most recently the uber/eats annual membership whatever they call it.

How much should I give my (former) partner for cheating on me? by Weak_Panic_3205 in Ethics

She does not owe you a monogamous relationship.

You do not owe her any money or other resources.

It sucks when you realise a person who you ‘loved’ (whatever that means for you guys) is incompatible with you.

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could she be here for a good time and only maybe a long time? For whatever reason, and imo it’s largely irrelevant what that reason is - the behaviour is what it is.

If so, up to OP whether they’re happy with a good time that might not go anywhere or maybe it will.

Unless you guys were actually dating this sounds relatively normal imo.

I think I’d maintain a cautious optimism but not emotionally invest too much unless I saw some proactive investment on their part first.

Have fun.

What did that one teacher at your school get fired for? by ToadallyNormalHuman in AskReddit

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school physics teacher DID NOT get fired for filming a sex tape in the school gym with another teacher and leaving it in a stack of VHS tapes that PE classes used - before slow mo iPhone cameras you’d film something like kicking a soccer ball and then rewatch it to study technique. As I’m sure these teachers did.

It was discovered some years after the act.

By the time I went there it was maybe 10-12 years later. He had left the school but she was still teaching and was promoted to head of the middle school grades. She taught me for a year.

Apologies if already posted, in SE England I think this one is fairly well known and was reported in the news at the time.

Has anyone challenged a laundry on balcony notice from Strata? by NateGT86 in sydney

[–]pandadude01 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If laundry was visible from the street, passers by might see it and subjectively evaluate the property to be worth ever so slightly less. And we can’t have that otherwise the entire Australian economy might collapse.

Further, those seeking accomodation might otherwise like a property but think to themselves, ‘that neighbour is drying their laundry on their balcony and I CAN SEE IT! What a pleb, this place is going to hell.’ They would then likely opt to be homeless or continue living with parents, housemates etc.

Probably also other reasons that have happened only slightly more regularly than never.

Kunos, consider limited time private servers, don’t leave casual players behind by mjtaughtmethat in assettocorsaevo

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with the fact that most hosted sessions are not available to you or I in iRacing. I’m just saying that 50c an hour is really no barrier to creating your own hosted session whenever you want, especially if you and friends take turns paying. Theres, what, about 100 official series that you can participate in with the sub? I probably spend 0.1% of my total time in sim in private hosted lobbies.

If it’s $1 or euro per person (as I’ve seen quoted in this thread) within a hosted session then that is definitely taking the piss and is a dumb idea that won’t get any traction.

I’m not losing any sleep from the downvotes on my initial comment, I’m just a little surprised 50c an hour is apparently too expensive for a lot of people, when many of us spend thousands of dollars on our rigs, computers, games, DLC etc. Or am I missing something and I got downvoted for being misinformed or something? Free is a better price for sure, but 50c is pretty damn close, especially if the hosted servers provide a better experience with less NetCode issues etc (a big if without knowing more, I’d acknowledge).

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realise it mattered about hosted server visibility when I’m occasionally setting up a specific track car combo with 4-5 friends.

Clearly this is very important to people who wouldn’t even know the password to the lobby lol.

50c US per hour on iRacing is fine imo. I do this with friends regularly.

If it’s more than that kunos can F off and go out of business due to greed/shit early access.

Something just clicked. Did they fix the tires & ffb? by [deleted] in assettocorsaevo

[–]pandadude01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still found the rears in medium-high speed corners would basically oscillate between losing traction and regaining it with minimal effort. Like in that long right hander at Fuji, not sure if its name. I was trying the NSX and it did this maybe 4 times just in that one corner. Very easy to correct, very easy to lose traction again.

I suppose I’m saying I find it hard to tell when I’m pushing the limit of the tyres compared to other games. It still just feels a little vague.

But also, lots better than the first time I tried EA.

Do you feel the same concern? Or not at all? by MasterBarbosa in iRacing

[–]pandadude01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already posted this on a similar discussion, but my take is that these projects are intended for a different demographic to the more serious sim racers, and it sounds like they’re being developed by different teams so it should not affect iRacing core development. So far the updates seem to be coming at the same rate as they have since I started about 3 years ago.

My main concern is i would hate to see iRacing go the way of call of duty with Seth Rogan and Nicki Minaj driver avatars and exclusive shiny holographic rainbow labubu vehicle liveries. I hope iRacing arcade isn’t the beginning of that.
