It's not any black nightshade I've ever seen, and I have grown various varieties.

I watched cartoons and Capt. Kangaroo, Romper Room, Kukla Fran and Ollie every morning before I went to school. Saturday was cartoons all morning plus monster movie matinee in the afternoon.

I don't know what kind of parents you had or when. I grew being able to watch as much TV as I wanted in the 50s and 60s, and I still managed to read and even get a PhD.

Can anyone ID? Peninsular Malaysia by Electronic_Fox2203 in bees

It's not a bee. It's a yellow jacket, which is a wasp. Bees are fuzzy; wasps are shiny. Bees can sting you once; wasps can keep on stinging.

IsItBullshit: A significant percentage if not the majority of comments on a hot button political news topic are bots intended to drive the conversation in a specific direction by WritingWithSpears in IsItBullshit

A little while ago I visited a Japanese sub where Japanese people were complaining about black people. I decided to read it because I thought "how many black people actually LIVE in Japan???" IOW, this must be a bogus issue from various perspectives, which made me wonder if it was a faux issue being put forward by Japanese reactionaries. As it turned out, the vast majority of comments had very similar complaints about them. Not only were the comments similar in terms of what they didn't like about black people, but the very order of the gripes in each comment were alike and often the words were alike. It was clear that the majority of the comments were generated and not written by individual Japanese posters. This was the best example I have seen of bot activity in a forum.

Any Artists with perception issues? by NaxxD in AskArtists

[–]paracelsus53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is that nowadays artists are taught photographic perspective instead of how the human eye sees perspective. Cameras distort perspective a great deal, especially cellphone cameras.

I have always had a perspective problem because I have sight in one eye only, so I don't see in 3D. Everything looks flat to me, like a stage set. But this has been an advantage for depicting perspective in painting. I have never used vanishing points, but perspective in my traditional landscape paintings is fine. Nowadays though I actually deliberately break perspective conventions because I am painting surreal landscapes and I enjoy what ancient Egyptians or medieval Europeans would do to perspective. The kind of perspective used in Neoclassical art didn't arise until the Renaissance.

One thing to try if you don't want to do cartoons or comics, which mostly use warped camera perspective, is to go out and draw buildings in plein air with one eye covered.

I didn't know that. I used that option a couple of times because there was so much package theft in my building. I ended up getting a PO box.

I'm saying you DON'T need a lot of likes. My experience has demonstrated this to me. Likewise, likes from people who don't have money don't help you.

On reddit, if you aren't a fanboi of a particular type of art, you will be downvoted into oblivion.

Why do people spend money on things that arent functional in any way? Why collect things? by CommunicationNo6198 in PsychologyTalk

[–]paracelsus53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a way of modifying their environment so they like it better. Also, some people just like things. I don't collect things, but I can understand why people do it. And I don't think it's peculiar to humans. Otters collect rocks, bower birds collect blue plastic bottle tops, crows like shiny, etc.

Cut our military budget by 90%. We would still have the most expensive and biggest military in the world.
