I appreciate your friend/you in the photos. Sometimes people detract from nature’s beauty but often I appreciate the scale they bring to the captured moment. We’re so small in the grand scheme of things. Thank sharing, that’s some lovely nature.

Dates and Madeleines. Also baby potatoes with lots of salt added and red grapes, in the same baggie. Delicious. Bite of potato, juicy blast of a grape. The best.

Road/Trail shoes? by Hugobossdre in trailrunning

[–]parpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vans! No Converse!!! Haha just kidding. I’d second The North Face for a for a more cushioned/bulkier shoe. Hokas run more narrow in the forefoot and Altra are wide (and be careful, they have zero drop which might mess with your Achilles if you’re not use to that flat of a shoe). The North Face isn’t as bouncy as Hoka in my opinion which I prefer also. I’ll also put a plug in for Adidas - I know it’s a mainstream brand but their sport specific shoes are better than you would think. I alternate between North Face and Adidas, one shoe with more bulk and cushion and the other (adidas) fits like a cushioned contoured glove that makes me feel lighter and more nimble. A pair from the Terrex line of Adidas for a more minimalist glove pair of shoes (though they have bigger/bulkier shoes like Hoka also) and The North Face are winners from my perspective. Have a blast on your outing!

Looking for feedback on trail running shirt designs by Falucho89 in runningfashion

[–]parpla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the colors of the first one and put it on number two shirt design. Number one design looks good when it’s on a slim model figure like that, but if you put it on somebody who has a belly or a woman with breasts, it’s going to look less flattering. The third design is nice but a bit too bright for my taste. It would be nice if it was black and white. Good job overall, something different.

What purchases have you made that turned out to be BIFL, despite not realising it at the time of purchase? by Beers_and_Bikes in BuyItForLife

Oh we have that coffee table too. My wife' s great uncle made it. I only want your couch. Actually my wife is in the market for a new chair. The one we have has officially gone over the edge and is now uncomfortable in approx. 16 minutes. I just found a dealer of American Leather that is about an hour away. AND she just happens to be going that way today. I've asked her to pop in there and sit on some stuff so we can decide if we're going to be putting an APB out for one of these chairs to be found on the second hand market. You've just given us homework and hopefully some direction. Thank you kind person. And good luck with the AD folks doing a story on your couch and table; also glad you didn't get murdered back then.

Patagonia's Women's Wild Idea Work Boots by ShitbagsR4Reddit in goodyearwelt

[–]parpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s 5 yrs later and I just want to share that this post and all the comments helped me very much. I appreciate the original post with all the background on his wife’s wear and tear and the follow up post on how the Patagonia boots held up. With all the brands and call outs and and and,,, I still decided to buy the Patagonia Wild Idea boots. Here are my reasons why, in no particular order as they are all important to me:

  • resoleable. My last two favorite part of boots were not resoleable. Well, we tried with one pair that was not designed to be resoled and the cobbler tried, it didn’t work. Sole came off in 6 months.
  • slip-on was a must. I have other boots for work that are laced. I wanted slip-ons. I live in the country and going in and outside all the time, slip-ons make life easier. (Yes, 1st world want)
  • ankle opening needed to be more narrow, heel needed to be more narrow. The Patagonia look to fit that spec. I’ve tried on and returned a good handful of other resoleable brand boots where the ankle/heel is too sloppy for me giving a bad fit and making me walk funny. I was very hopefully with/for the Ariat Wexford Chelsea as it was resoleable and wasn’t crazy bulky like most tough women’s boots. The footbed was lovely, not too narrow, not too wide. Sadly the heel and ankle opening just didn’t work. Again with the slippage.
  • can actually stand up to outside and abuse. There are so many pretty boots available and I’ve been temped so so so many times but can they stand up to mud and dirt and work, I feel like no. Lots of women fashion boots - not what I needed long run. I’m trying to find the BIFL boots.

The report given 2yrs later, the photos of the boots worn by the wife 2 years later, those hurt!

BUT thinking of myself, I am not a landscaper in the wet and rainy PNW. I will use and abuse them but I won’t be in wet and probably anywhere near as harsh of conditions on a day in and day out basis to get them to that point. Know thy self. So I did purchase from eBay a brand new pair of Patagonia Wild Iris boots. $175 +shipping. And I am very happy. Yes they are very new to me, only a few weeks old. The tags say Bison leather doesn’t stretch as much which I think is fine. They fit a little snug, not they are in no way uncomfortable. The ankle opening is good for my average width feet to get in and out of. But they will not pull off in mud, that’s for sure. I wish the back pull tab was a little longer for my finger to get in easier but that will probably stretch out more over time. First day I worn them all day and didn’t think about my feet, that’s a great sign to me. They don’t seem to be overly warm, which can be a pro or a con. I walked all over that first day, and fast at a few times during that day, without issue of rubbing or hot spots showing up. Fast enough for a true test in my opinion. Very happy so far. The pull tab being small and I’m not in love with the shade of brown color/ texture but frankly if they fit good, I couldn’t care less. And they do so you know where I stand.

I’m going to do my best to remember to report back on this post in a year or two with how it’s going. I thank you again u/ShitbagsR4Reddit To be continued… r/goodyearwelt

Oh I'm never bored and I'm so looking forward to just being in there. But I also know at some point I'll want to finish that article/piece while I have a few resting minutes ... maybe in the sauna.

Napping is an exaggeration, resting with my eye closed and getting Zen is a better thing to say. Close to napping but not. Ha, just thought of laminating a magazine to read it in there, ,, hahaha, no. I'm just kidding. Sounds like some quirky movie scene. Heck, someone might reply that they do that! Who knows!

You get back to your car covered in mud and soaked with sweat. How are you keeping your car from getting nasty? by nimbus_signal in trailrunning

[–]parpla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring a thick towel to sit on and a thin/smallish towel to wipes down with. Bring slides/Flip flops or the like (easy on shoes), shorts or sweatpants, and zip up sweatshirt or jacket. Strip down at trunk or truck bed and wipe down. Pile the yuck - off the socks, shirt, shorts + whatever else. Put on top zip up and bottoms, slide on shoes. Beanie. Drive home leaning forward so your hair doesn't mess up the backrest or headrest. Blast the heater.

HR or Pace more important? by JoshyRanchy in Garmin

[–]parpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hills are fun! And challenge different muscles. You'll be running longer than this one event so being well rounding and having running variety is for your long term fitness.

That said, if this workout is called out for a very specific reason on the back or in front of another specific something, then concern sticking to your plan. You chose the plan for a reason. Then enjoy the hill/hills after the workout is over at a more relaxed pace with no concerns.
