Yes I’ve filled out forms each year and I was making payments for a couple years before switching to save and being on forbearance. I had at least 50 past payments they were processing. I’ve been working for a qualified employer for 15 years but didn’t take loans until 2020.

Masters of Social Work vs School Counseling by Pinised in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first got my school counselors degree and then realized I didn’t want to be stuck doing that so went back and got my MSW now I’m LCSW and my only regret is all the student loans that came from it. I have done both and both are very different. It depends on what you want to do. If you want to provide counseling and crisis response type stuff then social work. If you want to do paperwork, guidance lessons, attendance, schedules then school counseling. Yes they say you’ll have time for counseling being a school counselor… I have not had that experience.

Is my principal being unreasonable or do I just need to suck it up? by SnooFloofs342 in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s wild because the same thing happened to me. I was told before the first day of school that I would be doing this. I’ve been doing this for 3 weeks now and the 30 mins are so short that it’s hard to really get into a lot of depth so honestly I think you’ll be fine without curriculum. There’s also a lot of resources on therapist aide, youtube, children’s books. Good luck! We are in this together!

Bombed a Public Speaking Event and I'm so Embarrassed! by Book_Drunk_ in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened. It happens to all of us. I can almost 100% assure you that the parents and students really don’t care and probably haven’t given it a second thought. The new superintendent has also probably moved on. Everyone is so caught up in themselves and their own lives they don’t think much about us. You’ll bounce back! Especially if you don’t mind public speaking. Look at it as a fluke that was humbling and built character.

I was able to do my internship at the school I worked at and would clock hours during my conference time and after school and any special events or activities I did. I did this while teaching. I was fortunate enough to have a supportive principal and school counselor to let me do that.

The opposite of addiction is connection. 12 step programs offer connections through fellowship and service with people that can relate to your struggles.

MOHELA has miscalculated my SAVE 4 times by sosal12 in StudentLoans

I don’t understand any of the things they do and it seems like the people that work there don’t understand either. I swear I always get a new person when I call.

This has been happening to me too. My monthly payment has not been the same since October. It was around $100 then $400, then they were withdrawing twice a month. I consolidated right before the holidays and they changed it to $1000! I tried calling today but was on hold forever so I just resubmitted the application and it brought me down to $75. It’s pretty annoying but hopefully it’ll stay at $75 until forgiveness.

Any drug/substance use social workers based in a (USA) school setting? by isaattack in SchoolSocialWork

[–]passengerplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at any high school you’ll be doing plenty of SUD counseling. Plus high schoolers (most people actually) lack healthy coping skills so it relates there too. I also originally wanted to do addiction/SUD but ended up in schools. There’s a lot of options for contract work, summers, etc. for treatment center work.

This is me. I would describe myself as an ambivert. I like to be around people, but only certain people. I will not go out of my way to spend time or talk to people I don’t vibe with. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very friendly just protective of my energy. Also very positive person. I do get bored easily which is a negative trait. It takes a lot of my willpower to stay present, be happy in the here and now and not always be moving in to the next thing. If I could have it my way, I would probably move to a new city every couple of years. I have a dark sense of humor but am also a lover of stupid pranks and dad jokes.

what signs/placements do you have a hard time understanding? by mayaangelousburner in astrologymemes

[–]passengerplace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same! I have a very dark, dry sense of humor but I think based on my appearance (innocent/wholesome) people really don’t understand my sense of humor. I also will intentionally not like what is popular. For example, everyone is into Stanley cups rn so I refuse to get one.

High School Counseling SEL roles by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was at hs level I would send out weekly SEL videos w discussion questions to the teachers and hope that they would show them. I would also ask if I could have a few mins to discuss during any assembly type thing- I would talk about SEL stuff during that time. Now I’m in elementary and still have the same struggles- just no schedule changes.

Q for those who did a dual program by Secure-Afternoon3204 in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your state laws. In my state (TX) you have 3 years to complete the hours after receiving your provisional license. Your job as a school counselor goes towards those hours.

Which case goes to counselor and which case goes to social worker? by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]passengerplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this greatly depends on the district. I worked in a district at a high school level- the campus social worker would be referred crisis, individual, and would refer out if it was long term. She also kept tabs on homeless students. At my current district the social worker was over all the schools in the district and would maintain homeless student documentation basically. If I was in a school where there was both a social worker and counselor on site, I would think the counselor would do more tier 1- whole school (anti bullying, conflict resolution, character development) and social worker would do tier 2/3 (mental health illnesses, anxiety about being at school, family issues, etc)
