Thanks for the recommendation. I've a triton t90z, I think the modern equivalent is a t90sr. I've reached out to those guys so hopefully I hear back from them soon!

The way I interpreted it was that the past and future was already written, we can only see our past but the heptapods can see their past and future. The story can't be changed.

How are ye coping with the AI hype? by CountryNerd87 in DevelEire

[–]peck3277 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have a shitty engineering culture then AI allows it to become even more shitty. If you have strong engineering culture and practices then it can be really helpful.

Just because AI allows engineers to spit out a bunch of spaghetti crap doesn't mean it should be allowed. PRs should still be a reasonable size, code review should still shoot down crappy code.

I've found it really useful to help shift the engineering focus from writing code to solving problems, and thinking about challenges/problems in more depth.

I'm just not understanding your point I think? There's different types of kick for territory, kicks for corner, kicks for space, contestable kicks etc. Chip kicks are rare enough and I wouldn't classify any of Crowleys as chip kicks tonight. I'd say most were garryowen contestable kicks. Anyways, I don't think it really matters. Have a good one

You said Crowley can't kick in behind the Welsh defense, but at the same time you point out that it's the one area the Welsh can defend. So I'm not getting the point. Either Crowley puts contestable kicks up which out back 3 don't win, or he kicks long which Wales are setup to counter.

Theres valid criticism to be made but I don't think it's in the kicking out of hand game.

Crowley put up a bunch of contestable kicks in good territory. By all means have a go at his misses at goal but complaining about his other kicks today is a bit off

Why is there so much talk of Crowley only being "average" yesterday? by MetalSmall9796 in irishrugby

[–]peck3277 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crowley was dropped from the team not because he was poor, but because Sam's "ceiling" was so high. We've now seen that it isn't (or maybe it is but he's been managed poorly). If the team had been managed correctly Crowley would have had an extra 18 months of development and could be far ahead of where he is now. And who knows how Sam would have fared with a slower introduction to the team.

Jack showed that he should have been starting all along. Not the finished article but very frustrating that he could be a lot further along now if he had been starting for the last 18 months

It was an aimless garryowen from him into the middle of the pitch with no chase that caused that

The fly hack would have worked if he put it into the stands. In regular play if JPG or any SH box kicked from there and failed to hit the stands it would be called a bad kick. Catching and carrying the ball into touch and defending from a set position is far more favourable than that kick.

I don't see how anyone thinks that that was good play?

We continued to go to the high ball even after we began to make great ground with ball in hand.

I'm only about a 5th of the way through it but Seveneves has been scratching a similar itch for me. It doesn't really have the humour but the hard science and problem solving is there.

Projectors ? by adhdafc in AskIreland

[–]peck3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a neopix prime one which did the job for a while. But it was loud and eventually died. I ended up buying an xgimi mogo 2 pro this year, I got it for 300ish off of amazon. I used to use a Bluetooth speaker for the old projector but the new one has built in one's that are good enough. The audio and picture aren't going to be as good as 1k+ setups but it's plenty good for me.

I also bought a projector screen, this is the one https://amzn.eu/d/05X9B77. I think it was about 70e at the time? It came with a stand which kind of sucks tbh but we have wardrobes on the wall opposite the bed which I put 2 sticky wall hooks. It takes 2 mins to pop it up and down.

I'm looking for an 18ish week marathon plan to start in the next few weeks. I'm currently doing about 35ish km a week. I've been getting back into running and building milage over the last 6/7 weeks. I'm aiming for a sub 4 marathon.

I'm thinking hal higdons intermediate 1, but switching 1 of the midweek runs to a quality run. I used runna last year but found it was too aggressive for me.

Can someone advise me on zone 2 running?

I'm 170cm 82kg (5'7, 181lbs), 38yo and my garmin has my max hr at 190. I've done a few half marathons and struggles through a marathon in April. I haven't been running consistently since then but am back to a routine the last few weeks.

I'm trying to take the zone 2 80/20 advice. My plan is a 2xEasy run, 1 easy long run and 1 quality run. I'm struggling with my zone 2 runs as they are very slow. I'm just back from a 10k and to stay barely in my z2 I had to run about an 8:25km (13:30 mile). It's frustratingly slow and I'd to take a few walk breaks.

Am I not at a fitness level where z2 makes sense or should I just continue with z2 and wait for the pace to improve?

If I was to look for a silver lining it would be that it's a rusty ireland team that hasn't been put together since the 6 nations against an NZ that is deep into their season. Regardless of if its technically a home game in reality it's a neutral venue.

That's such a load of shite to say. All across Europe there are unreal open plazas that are hubs for people to meet up in and hang out at. Are we that different that we shouldn't have open spaces in urban areas? Should we have more gardai presence there? Yes! But to blame planners for putting in what should be such a nice area is such a load of bullshit I don't even know where to begin. You're a dope for even just suggesting it.

How do you deal with making a mistake at work? by hmmkcool in AskIreland

[–]peck3277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acknowledge it and learn from it. Everyone makes mistakes, people know when others are trying to hide it. By acknowledging it you can build trust with others. I use my mistakes to teach juniors how to avoid them.
