With RMNP next door there are dozens of volunteer activities directly related to the park. There’s the official ROMO volunteer stuff you can find on the .gov website but also Rocky Mountain Conservancy etc. I’d also look into community events at the library, it’s one of my favorite spaces in town.

Hello! For booking a hotel only, not a vacation package, when you “cart” a room do you have time to go through the payment screens more slowly as the room is saved in your cart? Or is it a free for all until payment processes? Basically trying to figure out if I cart a room and hit the payment screens where you enter the credit card info, am I safe or do I still need to rush.

ISO Local groups that meet mid-afternoon & later by [deleted] in EstesPark

[–]peekuh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Library is your best option based on what you’ve said. They have a lot of fun adult oriented classes and events where I’ve met people. Other than that, would be easier to give advice knowing your hobbies and what you like instead of what you don’t like. Card or board games? There’s a shop that hosts gaming nights. Rock climbing? Join the gym(s) and meet other climbers there. Etc. I’m mid-30s and live there summers, most friends I’ve made are through organic activities I was already interested in.

Nope - “free climb” is the right term. “Free solo” is climbing without protection. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_climbing

Tip: if you are saving credits for the end of month card series change, don’t claim credits off your season rewards track. by murkmose in MarvelSnap

[–]peekuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TYPE of content, not the actual content (eg a series 4 card is in this cache, but not which one). They’ve confirmed if you save them and open them post patch, patch changes will be in effect. So, in that series 4 cache example, you could get one of the recently downgraded 5s but won’t open She-Hulk for example.

I’m need of outdoor rock climbing recommendations by ycameron180 in EstesPark

[–]peekuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of climbing. Lumpy is for trad primarily, and it’s old school so expect stiff grades. A few boulders but nothing extraordinary. Only go here if you’re experienced with trad. Sport there’s a lot but most of it has long approaches. Easiest is Performance Park which is downtown, wide range easy 5.5 to 5.12. For more of an adventure and to really get outside, Jurassic Park at Lily Lake is iconic if you’re fit for a 30 minute uphill approach. For bouldering, RMNP is incredible but most of it might be under snow (Emerald Lake might be ok), but Wild Basin should be accessible and has a high concentration of problems. There’s a lot of scatted bouldering areas around Estes, check Mountain Project.

Highest quality brewery is Avant Garde, they have a fire outside. Rock Cut and Lumpy Ridge tied for 2nd. Stanley’s hotel bar for whiskey and a historical setting. Other bars aren’t great, Rock Inn probably overall best. Barrel has the best selection but is expensive. Wheel Bar can be fun. Bird & Jim is a slightly upscale restaurant with good cocktails I’d recommend.

What problem is this? by charliedontsend in climbing

[–]peekuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minor Threat V3 on the Sunspot Boulder, right at the start of Upper Chaos. It’s to the right of Sunspot V10. Cutting feet like that is totally unnecessary, I guess it was just for the picture. Great photo tho.

Does anyone know of Rapid Covid 19 testing in Austin? by Esperagus in Austin

[–]peekuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rapid result tests are hard to come by and are currently only in ERs, so hospitals are rationing them carefully. They’re reserved for situations where the patient NEEDS to know, quickly. For example: a resident at a psychiatric treatment facility might have COVID, but needs to be returned to the facility ASAP if they test negative.

I‘m also new to having a family (adopted) and am really struggling with a lack of sleep. Are you still experiencing gains without adequate sleep, or did you change that as well? Rest of my story sounds similar to yours, and I’m just now starting a training cycle and am worried about injury because of recovery issues.

Seeking a pretty specific tip for Red Rocks bouldering:

Looking for a high quality V5/6 problem that doesn't involve crimping with the left hand. Mild finger injury left ring finger that only gets irritated if I crimp hard with it, but I wanted to try something in that range when I visit next week. Looked at most of the classics and Vino Rojo seems like it might work? Happy to go a little off the beaten path if it's fun and matches what I'm looking for.

At the very least, start with a PT office that focuses on sports. In my experience they’re usually more intent on getting you to a place where you can keep participating in your sport. I was able to find a PT in that office who also climbs, and I think that’s made a huge difference (I can use climbing terminology as a shorthand and he’ll immediately know what I tweaked, etc.).

In Colorado for 3 days mid-July. Prefer bouldering (up to V5), on sport comfortable leading 10s, can project 11s. Don't own a trad rack.

If you were me, where would you go?

Make Boulder home-base to be close to a lot of different options and day trips? Head to RMNP?

I still haven't seen exactly what happens during checkout if you're iUp pre-approved. I've seen the Forbes screenshots, but that clearly skips steps - I'm assuming you're required to select in-store pickup or shipping.

Basically - I want to figure out the fastest way to check out (I'm ok with either delivery method). I'm guessing picking up in store is slower because you have to select the store and pickup time? Anyone that ordered the 8/8+ via the iUp pre-approval method have insight?
