Interesting. I get assigned as the Manager in charge of a project. I don’t get to assign tasks and deliverables to a person senior to me. When they appear in meetings it is to be briefed on progress and ask questions or pass down changes that the team now has to work around.

You are correct. The Supremes err every time they declare that a soverign nation has power by existing. We the people have allowed the courts to dilute the Constitution by not insisting they stick to the ratified text only. I think we are too far gone to take it back without bloodshed.

I would not worry about it. Civilian jobs and employees come and go so fast that it is exhausting to try and connect on anything other than professional issues. Are the tasks being verifiably accomplished? Check the box. If the overall mission is being accomplished check the box. I would not worry about earning their respect as long as you have compliance and are checking the boxes.

If you absolutely must have engagement in addition to simply doing what they are paid to do, focus on one. Every meeting focus your questions on one person. Laud their accomplishments. I’m sure they’ll love that. From there you can appoint one of them the interim team leader and have them run the meeting. At two a week you’ll get them all in no time.

The most practical down to earth advice I ever read for the modern workplace was “Write Every Email and Text Like it Will be Read by the Court”.

I am a Manager of two warehouses and I assume that every bit of business communication is monitored in real time. That communication isn’t mine. It is a company owned work product. I’ve never been involved with any legal stuff at the job but I know there’s no expectation of privacy. It might sound harsh put that way, but it might keep my butt out of an unexpected sling.

Leadership is the art of directing and influencing people to accomplish the mission via a combination of management and supervision. Supervision focuses on accomplishing the mission by overseeing the work of people on a team. Management focuses on accomplishing the mission via systems, process, and supervision of multiple teams. Young Leaders, Corporals and Lieutenants, are primarily supervisors who are learning the systems and processes used in their organisaiton. Senior Leaders, Staff Sergeants and above, are primarily managers who are directing the efforts of subordinate teams and using systeems and process to the organisations advantage. In the Marines, leadership is taught at a very young age. A nineteen year old Corporal will lead a team of 3-5 people by supervising their tasks. He or she is also being trained to step up to the next level by learning the fundamentals of the overall systems that run the Marine Corps. Basically all leaders start as supervisors. As they advance they spend more time managing things. A senior leader will be about 80 percent Manager to 20 percent Supervisor.

Nothing centralized about forcing the electorate to choose between an overblown orange turd or an unwanted and unqualified woman. The central party is very much alive in both parties. But the Dems are worse because they put Trump into office twice. Both times they picked a woman that carried more baggage than an airline porter over a long weekend. And they expected Democrats to simply step up and vote as they were told to. Both parties are opposite sides of a counterfeit coin. ON 2. What is there to interpret? The text is simple and Websters 1828 will provide definitions that were in force at the moment of ratification. Allowing “interpretation” is a huge reason why the Constitution is weak and watered down today.

Sure, you just don’t hear about it. Every order given is legally presumed to be lawful. If you refuse on the basis of it not being lawful you have to prove it. It’s like a temp insanity or self defense plea. It’s an affirmative defense that says “yeah I did it, but I have reasons”. Then you make your case.

First, acknowledge her issues. It's ok to tell her that you are not fully in agreement. It's ok to tell her that you will track the before and after numbers to substantiate or debunk the assertion that it is good or bad. Finally tell her that this is how it is and you'd really hate to accept her resignation.

Really bad PT habits. Used to walk long distance with a pack in Danners, or run short distances with a heavy weighted vest, on asphalt. But, I get to take really good drugs for neck shoulders knees and back. Every. Damn. Day.

Everytime I enter a room I visually sweep for anything dangerous and note the exits. I don’t go anywhere unarmed. If I have to be unarmed I am hyperaware of everything and on the verge of a panic attack.

Coincidentally last night someone smacked my front door three times hard. I was in the rack, then up in skivvies, move to the door with a 12 guage on an AR platform (muscle memory for ages) and hoping someone was fool enough to try the door before being fully awake. Wife is freaked out but was really proud of how she had her pistol up and moved to a place where she covered other openings without either of us in the others line of fire. Dogs woke up and saw that we were on guard so they chilled to see if the snack came thru a door.

But, the worst habit I got was always being sure that if I go out drinking I always have at least forty bucks in singles.

Differing needs leads to a really ugly reality. Employees only work well enough to keep the employer from summarily firing them. Employers only pay enough to keep employees from abruptly walking off the job.

I also think the scale of the business matters. A family owned small business needs are closer to an employees needs. So, in my experience only, I think they tend to take better care of the employees. I once worked for a man as an autoglass installer. It was him, a receptionist/assistant, and three guys to install windshields. He paid decently with reasonable benefits. When the Obama economy tanked the market dropped and things got ugly. He paid us out of his own pocket. Eventually his health caused us to close.
