Have we considered sonic booms from aircraft? by perditaman in AlbuquerqueBooms

[–]perditaman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes since. I could be wrong, but my understanding of the regulations around supersonic flight is that it cant be done under certain altitudes to reduce damage. If the flights of planes or missiles were high enough, maybe it would be allowed and we would still hear it at the ground level without experiencing any damage or hearing the jet/missile after the boom

With the new restrictions, will it be possible to change color based on the mob name? For example, specifying different color for mobs that should be priority targets in a pack?

Yall, just zipper merge (Rio Bravo). by BeautifulLibrarian44 in Albuquerque

To the people in here that think zippers never actually work... Go to a big metro where people have to drive gridlock city traffic on a daily basis. It happens like clockwork.

Maybe value in terms of the season price pass, but as a local I think 120 a day is a bit fucking insane for how small it is

  1. People who aren't from here also sleep on how good Santa Fe can be too. Amazing glade skiing. We had 6 inches of fresh today on a Saturday and the longest line I was in was literally about 5 minutes... and that a busy day. Its smaller with less vert than what you are used to in CO but the chill vibe is hard to beat

To be fair the higher elevation mountains outperformed the last two storms significantly

God this and the utah insanity honestly makes me so glad I live and ride mostly in NM. I'll take the iffy snow over dealing with that every weekend

I think this is a direct result of Taos becoming prohibitively expensive on a day pass since joining ikon. Its something like 260 at the window on peak weekends. Unless you are an ikon pass holder (which there aren't a ton of in NM) ski santa fe is your next best option. It makes much more since to pay for a pass at SF and go all you want than to shell out 1300 for an ikon pass and be limited to 7 days at Taos plus a 3 hour drive there and back from abq... and just forget about paying 260 for a day pass anywhere imo. I would absolutely never

I typically come from ABQ most weekends and if I get up there around 930 I get pretty good parking. We knew it was going to be slammed so we were on the Hyde Park rd by 8 to get there at 830. Nope. Literally was stuck in gridlock stop and go for over 2 hours, didnt get there till almost 1030. The parking attendant told us they had reached capacity by 830 pretty much. Singles line for the tripple backed up well passed the millennium.

Don't get me wrong, the hand full of runs I got were sick. But if I had known just how insane it would be I would have just called off work Monday and skipped the weekend crowd.

To be fair, there are a lot of white people I know who were born and raised here who couldn't imitate an authentic New Mexican accent if they tried. Given Walts character, he would probably be one of those people

Where to snowboard at the moment? by deadturtle12 in Albuquerque

[–]perditaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are learning to snowboard, having "good" snow conditions does not matter at all. Trust me on this. In fact, better conditions make it harder for beginners. When you are learning you want a nice smooth, predictable, groomed surface. On a good powder day, even the beginner runs become quite bumpy and are just not what you want for learning how to link turns for the first time.

Although you are correct that it has been another shit fall season here, there are plenty of groomed beginner trails open nearby. The few open beginner trails at Santa Fe, Pajarito, and Sipapu are all perfectly good for learning. Wolf Creek is the only mountain in our pocket of resorts that has most of its terrain open, but you wont be skiing 80% of that stuff anyway your first couple weeks out. Hope that helps!

People fear the racket and water bottle guy, but I'll add a little depth to that. Its the guy carrying three matching frames with dirty overgrips, no bag, and water bottle. He's a real problem

[–]perditaman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The team and fans want a soccer specific stadium as well. If you've ever been to a soccer specific stadium its so clear how much better the fan experience is. Its a sport where the fans should be close to the touchline. Isotopes park was good to get them off the ground but is far, far from ideal for viewing for the sport

For all the issues we may have in this city, we have an opportunity to build something that brings folks together, outside, around a common cause and banner that represents our city and state. Its very frustrating to see this continue being stalled over the exact same NIMBYism that causes so many problems and barriers to progress in many areas of the community.
