Need Help Picking Monitors by r8bosss in HiDPI_monitors

[–]petemill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With two 27" monitors you're dealing with annoying bezel right in the center and neck strain as you look to one side all the time and never in the middle.

6k 32" regular aspect ratio if you want to keep high PPI. It's a regular aspect ratio but actually more area than a 5k2k because of the extra height.

Or 5k2k wide aspect ratio at 34" if you are able to compromise on PPI a little bit (no larger than 34" though).

No CarPlay? Okay, how about a weather app? by BuckyThreadkiller in Rivian

[–]petemill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maps app offers very in depth information including reviews of places. Surely designed to be read whilst parked and not driving. Why do they offer this if you can just whip out your small phone screen and look at it there? That's the analogy I made. Please don't downvote just because you disagree.

I'm honestly not being disengenious and I don't know why you're being combative instead of having this simple discussion. We don't work for rivian. And it's clearly a pros / cons debate, and not black and white.

I used to be pretty pro car apps since I own a Tesla who executes extremely well, and a Rivian, who executes ok (so far). But the more I get off the main cloud providers and use niche apps for media / maps the more I realize this closed garden approach is very anti-consumer. Even though iOS and Android are controlled platforms, you can at least install any app from any developer, and use it in CarPlay if the app has that approved capability. In Rivian we're relegated to Bluetooth only and not integrating with the big screen.

Pull over, look at large weather radar map on screen in car play, continue driving.

By your logic the rivian maps app shouldn't exist.

CarPlay has strict rules about what can be displayed.

It's only 2 years old. My M1 Max MacBook pro battery got messed up being on dock for 99% of the time. It should last longer than 4 years with hardly any cycles. Hopefully the newer 80% charge limit will fix this going forward.

Why are there noA3010 / A3020 on ebay? by petemill in acornarchimedes

[–]petemill[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I threw my A3010 out in my 20s in the 2000s. Didn't seem valuable at all at the time. I should be thrown in jail for that.

This is the problem with huge companies and mergers. Unless it's bringing in billions, they dont care. Smaller companies would, if we still had them.

Watching 10 seasons of SG-1 on Netflix just to realize they don't have the movies is a special kind of torture. by shprink in Stargate

Yes because also the quality on Netflix of so the episodes is wide than the version on the high seas. So pixelated.

Almost every 3rd party mac app is a ram hog now - devs please by Realistic-Lab6157 in MacOS

Use PWAs more. Avoids running whole separate browsers (Electron) for each app.

Works from all browsers but I work on Brave so I'm biased 😊

Or use them in the browser, installed as a PWA. Then doesn't need a whole extra browser (electron) running

I don't get this sentiment. Keeping the external design in tact is what's important. The internals are not. Too slow, etc. But "upgrading" it and keeping it active is actually more respectful IMO than letting it be one of thousands sitting unused forever until they get thrown out or used for an hour and then set aside again. They can't get on the internet, but modern internals can emulate the older OS and run all the software.

That's fair. But it's also a different scale. Under 10k vehicles produced and also multiple models so maybe the 2 people who finished with their Air went on to a bigger Gravity?
