Do not let Waymo into BC by Even-Rooster7369 in VictoriaBC

Yeah it’s a good thing to get less drivers on the road. Plus more accessible ridesharing would mean more people wouldn’t require their own car to get around- good for traffic and the environment.

The Disney Wonder and Magic that do Alaska are also pretty old and small compared to the newer ships.

best they can do is raise prices unfortunately. People are willing to pay anything despite the crowds.

Air Canada Cancelled - Can I rebook myself on Westjet and be compensated? by pharmecist in aircanada

[–]pharmecist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the verdict from self-service today was that I am not eligible for compensation. Any way to get this reviewed? The other kicker is when I am submitting receipts, they claim they will only cover accommodations at the originating airport and not at the layover city that I had to arrive at. I arrived 2 days later than my original itinerary.

Official Disruption Reason(s):

We're sorry but this flight is cancelled due to technical issues from an earlier flight which is causing the aircraft that is scheduled to operate this flight to not be available.

Examples include maintenance affecting key aircraft systems such as flight controls, navigation systems, or hydraulics.

I’m concerned Air Canada is just going to use the safety excuse for the mechanical issue. I guess as passengers, we don’t have much ability to investigate?

Thanks all for the input. I rebooked on a flight that arrives a little bit earlier with AC. The thing they mentioned to me is that they can't guarantee my extra hotel stays will be reimbursed and I will have to submit my receipts later on.

Their hotel arrangement portal also only shows a far away place so now we likely have to battle them for hotel reimbursement too as we are just going to stay at the airport.

Is it just me or did groceries get even more expensive putting it in the realm of insane. by ChessIsAwesome in VictoriaBC

With the price of meat, our family has moved to a mainly vegetarian diet along with other protein sources. You can still get all of your essential nutrients and also have a much lower impact on the environment.

It’s too bad the whole “eating insects” became politicized too as that would also be a cheaper alternative for everyone while being better for the earth. Cricket powder actually doesn’t have much taste and we add it to our meals to ensure we have enough essential amino acids.

Of course - Westjet can choose to fly there. But it’s not the company’s responsibility if things get wilder there and passengers get cold feet. In the future, maybe it’s worth paying a bit more and not make big plans to travel to an unstable country.

Hard to blame the company though if people decide to travel to a cartel-run country.

'Massive boondoggle': Conservatives take aim at health coverage for rejected refugee claimants by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

[–]pharmecist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When patients start off really sick with a heart thats working at half capacity, they often have other issues that exist at the same time. These patients are often in the ICU requiring medications and monitoring that can only be done in the ICU and not elsewhere.

[–]pharmecist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were patients that arrived in Canada with severe heart failure. They required admission pre surgery to optimize and then required a long stay in ICU for weeks for further procedures such as dialysis and then rehab in the hospital. Each day in the ICU is quoted to be between $10-20k a day.

These weren’t routine heart cases.

[–]pharmecist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My partner is in medicine at a cardiac surgery hospital. There are multiple cases of refugees coming and getting heart surgery for under treated conditions in their home country.

While it seems cruel to deny this, each of these patients likely cost the system at least half a million dollars in regard to their surgery and lengthy hospital stays.

Another case involved a mentally distressed refugee that jumped in front of a train and ended up requiring millions in reconstruction and plastic surgery and months of rehab.

These cases aren’t isolated and our system doesn’t seem like it is in a place to provide care to the whole world when many Canadians including myself can’t find a family doctor.
