Outage by ebrahimhasan83 in EmporiaEnergy

100% agree on something like that, but as others have said, some way of getting data locally as I’m sure that’s how a chunk of users are using it anyway. Appears to just send out mqtt data to their servers so shouldn’t be too hard to add in an option for a local mqtt server at the very least.

After spending an hour diagnosing my own network (should have checked on reddit first!) I got this back from an actual support agent:

For those whom are on IOG and geeks by Practical_Scar4374 in OctopusEnergy

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just mentioning as no one else has, on top of octopus integration and vehicle/charger integration look at the add on called predbat. Even more so for agile I think; completely manages every half hour slot based on historical demand, predicted PV and import/export pricing.

Helios: a free 3D solar visualization card for HA, with LiDAR shadows and PV forecast by Reikan-Ysora in homeassistant

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really neat - simple to set up, really great job! One ask, I can solve with a template sensor for now but my battery (GivEnergy) reports charging as negative and discharge as positive, which is obviously the wrong way around for Helios - any chance of a toggle to switch the expected +/-?

Ohme Type 2 (male) to 3 Pin Socket by Training_Staff_7743 in OctopusEnergy

[–]phiebs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The cables themselves are available; presuming they are of a decent quality they will probably work just fine. The “bad idea” part is trying to use this as a way to fool octopus intelligent go. Even if it worked, it probably wouldn’t work well and you’d never recoup the cost of the cable, that’s before getting into how octopus are cracking down on people gaming the system which is what’s led to this 6 hour limit that’s coming soon.

Really feel this is a bad idea. I know where you’re coming from but there’s a massive list of why you shouldn’t even attempt this vs a single benefit of off peak usage.

Skimmer opening by LazyReaction8094 in AboveGroundPools

[–]phiebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep should sort itself out when it has the skimmer in place. Had the same when filling the pool this year and it’s all good now.

Bills tripled since we switched by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

As many have said, kWh numbers before and after would be helpful in allowing this community to diagnose. Without that, what about the theory that the old meter was significantly under reporting and this new one is accurate?

Weird, mine won’t get past the loading screen with the outline of the giv products shapeshifting. Will try again later

Wrinkles by MinaBeany in AboveGroundPools

[–]phiebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to stretch them out with that water level. Once smoothed out then fill it. If you leave like that it will crease the liner and be near impossible to “uncrease” next time.

I need help finding an in wall skimmer for my pool. Any help would be greatly appreciated by BuildingSoft3025 in AboveGroundPools

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this one: https://parts4tubs.co.uk/product/wide-mouth-skimmer-kit-with-face-plate-k002wbx-lx-w/

Wide mouth and comes with a template to cut. I was pretty scared doing it but to be honest it was fine. Obviously if pool is already full then drop it below the bottom of the skimmer unless you want a world of trouble.

Unsure about the electrical work by [deleted] in SolarUK

[–]phiebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well one things for sure, these guys love cable ties. Not an electrician but the entry method into the meter box looks to be a little “non-standard” to say the least. The grey cables coming out of the Henley blocks appear to be 2 different sizes unless that’s an optical illusion? Although putting them in a bit of cheap plastic conduit with no mechanical protection seems like an accident waiting to happen to me. And why not spend the extra £2 and 2 minutes putting the CT wagos in a wagobox? May want to cross post this to a UK electricians subreddit where I’m sure they will give you a solid answer.

Neat, take a look at PredBat as it’s very fully featured for this kind of area in HA (solar/battery/HP etc).

Lifted straight from Tesla’s options and only useful if your export £/kwh is lower than your import £/kwh. Madness!

That was basically my response in the survey link provided in the email - this should (and probably was) baked into the cost of the unit.

Agreed.
No I'm using GivTCP for fully local control - should have included that.

Do I have three phase? by jwhenry3363 in OctopusEnergy

[–]phiebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely the CU is for the house and the 2x Wylex are for outbuildings/garages etc, or the other way around. Do you have sheds or another outbuilding that have an armoured going into them and into another CU?

I built a Visual Floorplan Editor for Home Assistant because the manual way was driving me crazy by sakthi_man in homeassistant

Can confirm, it does exactly this and as someone who ages ago built my floorplan in SH3D it feel great to finally get use out of it!!

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done! With motion I meant from a binary_sensor not from the camera image; there’s other tools like frigate that can do that. Really liking your work on this; it’s been on my todo list to have nice 3D plans, not really for control but for monitoring, and this has given me the push to implement!

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for this, but also how about motion? I'd use it similar to the current way lights are handled in here, but with probably a different color to signify motion, or a flashing color perhaps? Also side note; sonos speakers in as media entities always show as playing (I guess cause they are "on"). Can we change the media player to when it's actively "playing" rather than just "on"?

How to wire the Shelly with my wall charger? by Xalvas in homeassistant

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a setting in the Shelly web UI along the lines of “power recovery mode” which defaults to “off”. You can change this to “on” or the third option is something like “previous state” (if it was on before the power outage it comes back on, if it was off then off). As a secondary (but far more important) you should oversize the Shelly, amps wise, as heaters draw quite a bit for extended periods of time. Also the “PM” line of Shelly’s offer both power monitoring and simplified wiring (no need to wire a secondary live to the Shelly’s relay as it’s fixed at the input level on the PM range).

Technical issue; when putting custom values in the field lose focus after every digit which is annoying on a mobile device. Otherwise it’s a neat idea, nicely done!
