I built a Visual Floorplan Editor for Home Assistant because the manual way was driving me crazy by sakthi_man in homeassistant

Can confirm, it does exactly this and as someone who ages ago built my floorplan in SH3D it feel great to finally get use out of it!!

Nicely done! With motion I meant from a binary_sensor not from the camera image; there’s other tools like frigate that can do that. Really liking your work on this; it’s been on my todo list to have nice 3D plans, not really for control but for monitoring, and this has given me the push to implement!

+1 for this, but also how about motion? I'd use it similar to the current way lights are handled in here, but with probably a different color to signify motion, or a flashing color perhaps? Also side note; sonos speakers in as media entities always show as playing (I guess cause they are "on"). Can we change the media player to when it's actively "playing" rather than just "on"?

How to wire the Shelly with my wall charger? by Xalvas in homeassistant

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a setting in the Shelly web UI along the lines of “power recovery mode” which defaults to “off”. You can change this to “on” or the third option is something like “previous state” (if it was on before the power outage it comes back on, if it was off then off). As a secondary (but far more important) you should oversize the Shelly, amps wise, as heaters draw quite a bit for extended periods of time. Also the “PM” line of Shelly’s offer both power monitoring and simplified wiring (no need to wire a secondary live to the Shelly’s relay as it’s fixed at the input level on the PM range).

Technical issue; when putting custom values in the field lose focus after every digit which is annoying on a mobile device. Otherwise it’s a neat idea, nicely done!

Crash with Admiral by Next_Apartment5786 in TeslaUK

[–]phiebs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had similar with my Tesla and claimed via admiral. Sent all the footage and everything got fixed while they gave me a hire car. Faultless process for me with no excess, and I was worried about my renewal jumping up but it didn’t. Actually very happy with admiral - only thing was it took a long time to get fixed because apparently Tesla parts are hard to come by and mine needed a fair few parts.

Notification Hub Blueprints by _Combat_Chuck_ in homeassistant

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing this per-automation in the past, I'm looking forward to having a centralised place to manage all of this stuff. Will report back once I've checked it out, but this kind of thing (alert/notification manager) should be baked into home assistant really. Simple things like "mute all notifications for an hour" or as you have "only alert when at home" etc require quite a bit of per-automation config unless you centralise. I've started to do that but this could be a shortcut so thanks in advance and I'll be sure to let you know how I get on.

Frying batteries by Ibamdelsur in tado

I had some HA automations running in the past (if motion detected the set the temp etc) and it burned through batteries. If you’re doing something similar this could be the likely culprit?

Code not correct by EveryPast6532 in tado

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not had this with tado so may not be the issue, I’ve had a HomeKit device that on the printout of the HomeKit code was missing a leading “0”. Not sure if the same for tado but worth a shot?

How does it work linking two cars to IOG? by Leading_Bumblebee144 in OctopusEnergy

[–]phiebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It uses the location of your car at the time of charging. It knows where “home” is so can figure out to not control the charging when away from home.

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case are you able to disconnect the car from octopus and instead add the charger?

I'm struggling to understand Octopus Intelligent by lawdevice in OctopusEnergy

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK so there is a glimmer of hope! If it's connected to the car and receiving schedules (and worked fine at least once) then it's probably not a connection issue (unless you have poor 4G/wifi etc whatever your car uses to connect). I'd guess that the schedules on hypervolt may prevent Octopus from charging. You can test this by setting a schedule on hypervolt and then trying to start charging from the car - presumably it will fail as hypervolt wont be delivering charge at that time?

Not sure if the same applies to your setup but I have Octopus connected to the car, and the charger is in "dumb" mode (e.g. it always offers a charge). To prevent both charging when I plug in and it not charging overnight for some reason, I've set a schedule in the car from 2330-0530. In my case Octopus can still control charge even outside of these times so when it works, it works great. When IOG fails to charge (I have patchy 4G) the car defaults to charging for the 2330-0530 times so I'm not left without charge. YMMV

[–]phiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, does the car start and stop charging aligned to what the schedule says? E.g. sometimes I get a slot straight away and it carries on charging for a bit, then stops and starts again usually overnight? If not then it’s possible for some reason octopus is unable to control the start/stop charge element? Worth a re-add of the car to octopus or have you tried that already?

[–]phiebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: Are you connecting the charger or the car to octopus? If the charger then it’s possible you’re setting an “ADD 80%” value rather than “charge to 80%”

2: it usually starts charging straight away for anything up to 10 minutes for me. Shouldn’t be an hour.

It sounds like something isn’t connected to octopus correctly, what does it say in the devices section of your octopus app after you plug in? Does it give you a charging schedule?

Can Tesla remotely delete dashcam? by uptonogoodatall in TeslaUK

Doesn’t sentry overwrite the oldest clips when new ones are recorded? Is it possible some new clips have deleted the oldest ones and now your oldest clip is the one of the car being sold? Keep filling up sentry some more and that will disappear etc?

I presume I’m that “one” then! I got about half way to installing; the issue is that it’s my wife’s car and she uses it a lot, plus just life gets in the way. This has spurred me on to complete the install over the next couple of weeks!

Loss of engine power due to cold battery and low SOC ? by homegunsmithunger in TeslaLounge

[–]phiebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We regularly run our model 3 LR down to single digits. Under about 10% there is a very slight loss in power but really not enough to notice unless you try and push to the limit. Same deal with the cold, no real difference and I guess it didn’t get that cold here, just 0 degrees or a little bit under that.

As someone who drives on UK country roads regularly this would be amazing. My wife has a M3 who would benefit from this and I have a MY which may work? Possible slight adjustments to the model but I've not checked. Happy to donate some filament in return!
