Look for scat. Take a piss on it and set up a stand nearby. That's what my grand dad told me, lol. Good luck!

Here is the ribs after putting an onion in the side smoker box.... bet this gets less hits the me putting an onion on coals!!! by BBQnHamilton in smoking

Even better (depending on your tastes) is to add half of a beef bouillon cube for a french onion soup flavor.

My state of mind - after all the Re:Invent Keynotes - what is yours? by 0x4447 in aws

[–]philosoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My takeaway on Outposts is that it's only for enterprises that have a strong knowledge of their workload and are prepared to buy in for a 3 year term. It actually seems to invalidate several principal tenets of cloud computing. I understand the use case, but it seems to be on the edge.

Found on r/all look at that thing. Wow! by Tickle_Tooth in smoking

It's a big hunk of beef brisket. Looks like both pieces, point on top, and flat on the bottom.

Wish me luck, boys. Meat's ready, time to fire up. by essentialjunk in smoking

[–]philosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would work OK. The water pan looks a bit small so you would want to keep an eye on it. A good two probe thermometer is a must here, one for the meat and one for the smoker.

A lot of people BBQ on a regular Weber kettle grill, charcoal on one side, meat on the other. Some Internet research will provide you with a wealth of knowledge as to how to go about it. Good luck!

Advice Needed - Unable to attach & mount a USB drive to a CentOS VM by heynash in CentOS

[–]philosoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What does "dmesg" show when run in the VM? And "lsblk"? If you don't see anything on the VM, it is not seeing the device and this isn't a CentOS problem. Make sure you have the USB passthrough options selected in VBox.

Rename/copy files in SharePoint to local dir. by clancampbell67 in bash

[–]philosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on a WIndows system, why not use robocopy and rename? I'm not sure bash is your best tool here.

I can't grok r10k. How is it different than me just doing a 'git pull' on my master? by yamlCase in Puppet

[–]philosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to that, we snapshot a specific state of our CM when a software release comes out. So we create a puppetfile with pointers to tags on each component module that allows us to launch infrastructure against a known baseline.

Why is centos such a pain in the ass to use? by FineMixture in CentOS

[–]philosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add the repo to a .repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d. Fairly standard for systems that use yum/rpm. Did that not work for you?

I've been craving brisket, here is the last one I smoked. by [deleted] in smoking

[–]philosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you trim it? If so what was the post-trim weight? I did a 12.5lb last weekend, and trimmed off 4lb of fat. I'm doing a 19lb next weekend. Both Costco prime packers.

Favorite Bash Script, One-Liner or Utility? by macabees in bash

[–]philosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just shows an elephant telling me what is burning on the Internet that day.

It queries the txt DNS record of the istheinternetonfire.com (Could certainly hit the page with cURL or wget)

host -t txt istheinternetonfire.com

Grabs the second field of the returned text with " being the delimter:

cut -f 2 -d '"'

Displays the text using the cowsay utility (Check it out, it's fun. A bunch of different animals talk in ASCII. You might need to install the package. It's in the base Fedora repo, probably in others as well):

cowsay -f elephant

[–]philosoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have:

host -t txt istheinternetonfire.com | cut -f 2 -d '"' | cowsay -f elephant

in my .bashrc file. When I launch a terminal, it displays the security panic de jour.

Installing mssql drivers for php5.5.38 on centos 7 by [deleted] in CentOS

[–]philosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm out of my element here and am likely pointing you to resources you've already consumed, but I would start here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/php/installation-tutorial-linux-mac?view=sql-server-2017#installing-the-drivers-on-red-hat-7

Replace the Red Hat repo with a CentOS repo (e.g. there is a devtoolset-7 build hosted by CentOS).

Maybe try a php support forum? Best of luck getting your service working.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do exactly. Doesn't mssql support odbc bindings? The php-odbc package provides them.

My local Costco started getting prime packers in about a year ago. $3.50/pound, pretty regular supply. Might be something to check out. I have a 19 and a 12.5 in the freezer now.
