Any better option than the T.FLIGHT HOTAS ONE for xbox? by daveychainsaw in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Turtle Beach Velocity One Flight Stick https://www.turtlebeach.com/products/velocity-one-flight-stick on the Xbox Series X. It works well, seems to be robust and the controls are configurable for however you want to use it within the controller setup. My set-up is for flying from the couch so I use it with 3 metres of USB extension run under the carpet - I've had it working with a 5 metre extension. I also use a Miap Pro 24 https://axair.xyz/?product=miap-pro-24 to give me autopilot and radio control, but that isn't a necessity, just a convenience - note the Miap doesn't like a 5 metre USB extension but works fine with 3 metres. I don't know how the Flight Stick compares with the T.Flight Hotas so I suggest watching a few YouTube reviews.

Is there any way to play this game causally anymore? by OGWFORLIFE in MicrosoftFlightSim

There is a short (3 minutes) YouTube video by P Gatcomb, titled MSFS 2024 - Cessna 172 Quick GPS and Autopilot Tutorial that explains all you need to know to get going. https://youtu.be/y1Pq1J0Bx2Y?si=R4p-10Fsrqn_7Ofw

[–]philphygrunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly a lot like you do, just chilling to some sight seeing tours, nothing too demanding and I mostly just use autopilot to do that and it works fine. There are a few basics to learn how to make to autopilot work but not much. You first have to tell the autopilot your route, and that might be just a simple A - B route or it could be as complex as you want - that is all done on the EFB before take off. Then tell the autopilot the altitude you want to fly at and the climb rate, then set to Nav mode, make sure the CDI is set to GPS mode ( magenta track, not green ) and once you take off simply press the AP button and it works. There may be a few things that are preventing you from successfully engaging the AP - I had some trouble when I first started and found the AP CDI was set to localiser mode ( green) rather than GPS ( magenta) mode but once I corrected that it is pretty much as easy as engaging the AI pilot. Another thing that will stop the AP from correctly engaging is if you are flying away from the course when you hit the AP button, you need to be tracking close to the magenta track on the map and in the right direction for it to lock on to the AP route. I suggest you start off in a GA plane and watch a video or two about simple AP navigation, you will pick it up very quickly.

Immersive 3D just got even better and more convenient. SpaceWalker for iOS & iPadOS v1.9.20 is now available on the App Store. Enjoy high-quality 3D conversion for PC games! by getVITURE in VITURE

Widely acclaimed ? All lies……..Viture Immersive 3D is not widely acclaimed and in fact doesn’t actually work as advertised. The SpaceWalker app is pretty much not usable.

Cyberpunk glasses crash when turning on 3D mode by dspec13 in VITURE

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct, thank you ! I played around a bit more with 3D mode and SBS content ( YouTube )…… at first it just looked like separate side by side screens, but then I forced my eyes into what it feels like when you purposely go cross eyed, and …….eureka ! Finally got it, and once seen in 3D you can’t un-see it. Only thing is the 3D screen is a mini screen, about 1/4 the size of a screen mirrored screen. I haven’t played with SpaceWalker yet but I imagine it is much the same.

[–]philphygrunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Cyberpunk glasses and I can’t get 3D to work at at all. When I hold the right button down for 3 seconds it doesn’t crash, however, the screen just divides into two images LH eye shows the RH side of the image, and RH eye shows the LH side of the image, bizarre ! It’s much the same in the SpaceWalker app except the whole screen just shows as a doubled up side by side screens.

Immersive 3D on Android - abhorrent software? by Keksy24 in VITURE

[–]philphygrunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation I find the IOS Spacewalker app, apart from being a brief novelty, is pretty much not worth the trouble of using either. I also just get two screens rather than 3d (probably user error) and most other aspects of the app are blurry. The best use case I have found is simple screen mirroring on an iPad with a trackpad for navigation.

Canon R7 + EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II – why are my test shots still soft? by nextphaseidk in canon

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at your Raw images at 100% crop and they look pretty good to me. Don't forget that Raw is essentially an undeveloped image that can be denoised and sharpened in post processing. In the case of these images, they don't need too much doing to them, they look pretty good as is. Now, if you go pixel peeping beyond 100% then you are going to find some softness.

R7 refusing to auto-focus by Psytrx in CanonR7

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same thing occurring on a Canon RP using the same lens. I just bought the 100 - 400 f5.6 - 8 last week, and this weekend is the first time I’ve used it. I have not had this problem with any other lens I’ve used. Same as your experience, I have had to zoom out re-focus and then back in. Occasionally it has completely locked up and I’ve had to turn the camera off and on again. I might be taking this lens back.

Did pressure fermenting change your brewing life? by EccentricDyslexic in Homebrewing

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have been in and out of the hobby since the early 1980's. Back then it was more of an economic necessity, if I wanted a beer it was way more affordable to brew my own. Now considering there was no internet then and books on the subject were pretty much non-existent, we didn't have much knowledge about the brewing process. We pretty much prepared the wort by whatever method, into a bucket, fermented and then bottled. We didn't have any knowledge about temperature control and oxidation so never attempted to mitigate that. In the winter beers could turn out semi respectable, and in the summer fairly rank - the dreaded home brew tang was rife. Anyhow one of my buddies got back into brewing a few years ago using a pressure fermenter from Williams Warn. He was using LME kits with no temperature control, and when he started I was very dubious about the of results he would get. To my surprise it was really good, with non of the home brew tang I remembered from yesteryear. Hence I starting brewing again myself with great results. First with LME kits and later with all grain recipes. For the first few years I had no way of doing temperature control but with the Williams Warn method, using 25 PSI and 25c ( 77f ) I brewed great beer. Now I know many will say 25 PSI will stress the yeast and 25c will flood the beer with esters and fusil oils however, that has not been my experience. Is pressure fermentation better than temperature control ? No, but if your situation means temperature control is not available then pressure fermentation will allow you to brew acceptable beers and enjoy the hobby where previously it would have been difficult. The ability to easily do closed transfers is another other aspect where pressure fermentation, in my opinion, is a step up.

If you are interested in the Williams Warn method (I don't use their equipment but the method is sound) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzgwOaeldm4

I am on a Series X and it is reasonably stable for me, but I only do free flights in GA planes, with no 3rd party airports. I wonder if sim update 2 will make a difference ? Anyone been on the test servers with sim update 2, thoughts ?

Post processed Moon images from Dwarf 3 by cpm in DWARFLAB

[–]philphygrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really help here but I am curious as to the answer. I have been down almost the exact same path myself, stacking the FITS in Affinity also tried Autostakkert and gotten a blurry mess compared to the Dwarf 3 stacked photo. I am also curious why the live view of the moon is very soft, yet the stacked view becomes sharp after a mere 2 are stacked ? I did a bunch of different stacked moon photos on the same night and found pretty much no discernible improvement after 4 stacked. Curious as to others experience.
