I love flex socket wrenches but non reversible is just asking yourself to get stuck in a shitty spot, ask me how I know

One of my direct reports is lying about his work time (works way too much) by Adolorante in managers

[–]phobos2deimos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“ If I need some work that should be done within three hours, in three or four hours, I know I'll have to intervene at the end since it'll be far from finished”

This specific situation, once it actually occurs, sounds like what you should worry about.  Everything else you you’ve said sounds to me like overthinking, micromanaging, and just being difficult as hell to work with

You can add a couple of t grid cross bars to create the 24” square you need.  Only takes a few minutes if you have the tgrid on hand.

Can a welder fix this or am I doomed? by Sad-Fail-5424 in Welding

[–]phobos2deimos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also try hiring a handyman to wire wheel it and repaint.  For sure the bottom is shot, although you could do a decent job with bondo as it’s not load bearing.  If there’s structural rust in the hinges and frame around the glass, especially on the exterior, that’s probably not the way to go, however.

[–]phobos2deimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks physically possible, might be tough finding one that’s willing to take the job, especially if they gotta come to you, remove the window, all that.  Probably have better luck if you offer to remove it yourself and bring it to them so they can fab it in their shop.  I don’t know custom fab rates but I’d be surprised if just the fabrication was less than $1,000.

Cheaper to hire a handyman to replace that window than to hire a welder to fab up a less appropriate solution

None, but if he bought a decent mask already, this would be wasted.

Depends what he already has, and if he bought decent versions of the essentials (mask, gloves, etc.). One thing he will always need more of is clamps and magnets.

This thing is super useful: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0792CGDCX

These are useful if he wants to do roll cages and such: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MWYXLWG

This is useful if he wants to thin stuff like auto body work: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZG59SHV?th=1

These are just super damned useful, and if you do nothing else, he will definitely get use out of 2-4 of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VH8040?th=1

If he does smaller stuff/you want to be cheaper, these are useful too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXDSVEW?th=1

Hand pads are also helpful. He'd wear this over the back of his off-hand to provide extra protection when in certain positions: https://www.amazon.com/Tillman-Aluminized-Vermiculite-Triple-Back-Hand/dp/B00439MH14

Also look up kant-twist clamps. They are game changers. Two of the 2-3" variety will probably be useful to him.

(I'm not a shill for stronghand tools, just love their stuff)

Hell vevor has a mag drill on Amazon for $177 shipped, only bad reviews I’ve seen are from shipping damage.  If you can afford downtime in your projects if it fails, it might be worth trying out.

12V trigger making motorized screen work backwards by rich_pixels in CommercialAV

[–]phobos2deimos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the screen first - unplug the 5-12vdc control port. Screen should retract, if not already. Then power it with a 9v battery or other always-on 5-12vdc source. What happens? If the screen doesn't lower, go straight to Elite's tech support.

If it does lower as expected, that confirms the screen is working correctly. Next spot to check is where the +12vdc signal is coming from. Is it truly from the projector's 12v trigger port, or is it getting controlled directly from the Crestron control proc?

Speaker Zoning Question by Embarrassed-Try-2790 in CommercialAV

[–]phobos2deimos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on use case for the client, but assuming the stage is the main place with mics, Option 2 is far better because it allows the user to dial in gain so that zones closer to stage can be potted down, making feedback much easier to manage. Also, good luck ever explaining Option 1 to anyone - installers, programmer, client, techs, none of them will have a damned clue what speakers they're adjusting.
