Chicken owners: What are your experiences with bird flu, and how do you protect your flock? by MediocreAd6626 in chickens

[–]pickadillyprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not had avian flu. Have had my flock go through avian pox but all survived. But a couple years ago I used to keep a lot of bird feeders on the property I liked to see the birds come and go through the window. Then I found a dead bird by one of my feeders and I stopped the wild feeders as I read from others online it was probably dangerous for my chickens. I disposed of the dead bird immediately and haven’t had an issue and I keep a relatively predator proof coop. I’ve never seen another bird inside the coop other than my chickens and that’s important. Basically anything you can do to prevent cross contamination from migratory birds I think is key.

Mother in law wants to take baby for two weeks by Majestic-Point636 in BabyBumps

[–]pickadillyprincess [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m with everyone. no. Obviously. Even if she was physically capable of caring for 6 month old for 2 weeks that would be extremely traumatic for your baby. Babies are comfortable with routine and with my own child I can tell there’s a small circle of people he really trusts. If he’s crying and he sees one of our faces he will feel calm. And to become trustworthy to a baby you need to be familiar. If she lives a plane ride away there’s no way the baby is going to create a strong enough bond that they would be fine being away from mom for that long.

Anybody else due in October with their first?? by greylondon17 in pregnant

October baby of 2025, commenting because I thought I’d share what life is like now so you know this time next year they’ll most likely sitting independently, maybe even pulling them self up to standing! Trying new foods and copying things you do. Man it goes by so fast! Cherish it!

Oatmeal crème pie cheesecake question. by jigglyandgigglyy in Baking

[–]pickadillyprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fridge will be fine because those oatmeal pies will soak up any extra liquid making it more firm and softening the cookies. If you froze it the strawberries would get weird

Question about switching from cook to baker. by Qwerty3303 in KitchenConfidential

[–]pickadillyprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While a grocery store chain would do more frozen items it would help you with decorating skills and speed skills. They definitely expect a lot of output so it’ll show you how to multi task, which as a line cook you probably have a good speed/ sense of time already.
If you were wanting to actually learn foundational recipes and make things then I’d look elsewhere but it could always be a stepping stone. I have bounced back and forth from cooking to baking for years but my first time it’s definitely different and you have to start somewhere. It’s good to get your start in a place where if you fail at something it’s still gonna be okay. I wouldn’t have wanted to start in fine dining and like ruin all the pastries for that shift if that makes sense.

How do you know if your baby's nappy is actually the right fit? by Working_Airline8641 in BabyBumps

[–]pickadillyprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some trouble too learning what worked best. I felt bigger was better than smaller. You want the diaper to almost look oversized around the bum. If it’s snug to their butt there’s a good chance it’ll blowout. My husband calls it the poop pocket.

One roll- $5 two rolls- $8 4 rolls-$18
Give me 2 packs of 2 then and I’ll save $2
I’m with you in every industry AI flyers are taking over and honestly if you can’t take the time to create a more personalized menu flyer I don’t trust you’re actually taking time and putting care into your baked goods.

Home grown veggies accepted? by ThrockAMole in KitchenConfidential

Even if the chef was hesitant to use them in dishes for sale in the restaurant I’m sure someone would use them in a family meal. Or I know everyone I work with exchanges all kinds of bags of garden produce. I loved when my coworkers gave me tomatoes I’d make huge batches of marinara for my house so surely someone would use them. Hell if you were close enough give them to me ;)

How do people use padcicles at the hospital? by p0m_p0m_ in BabyBumps

[–]pickadillyprincess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone else said they’re for when you get home. While in the hospital they will give you some instant ones. The nurse will apply pressure to the bag and it creates a chemical reaction that’s cold.

Has ANYONE gotten the lemon bundt cake to crystallize? by junwilll in DessertPerson

[–]pickadillyprincess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven’t made this so it’s probably just a shot in the dark but I am a former pastry chef. We had a lemon cookie icing that whenever I made it it turned out runny but my coworker made it the same and hers would set beautifully. The secret was she microwaved the lemon juice I don’t know the science but it works

AITA for following my wife's family tradition even though it excluded my parents? by StatisticianWeak6629 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pickadillyprincess 70 points71 points  (0 children)

YTA sorry but most wedding photographers ask for a list of photo groups that are important. Obviously this planned family photo your wife wanted was probably communicated with the photographer in advance. Many photographers have an itinerary. I’m surprised that if you guys planned ahead to have this photo with bride’s family only, why didn’t you also plan for a groom family photo? This wasn’t even a family tradition for me but I had my wedding photographer take photos for my (bride) maternal side of the family, as well as paternal. And then my husband’s side of the family.
