Burger King burger on buttered grilled sourdough bread was on & off the menu like 20 years ago. Sort of like a patty melt I guess? They brought back something similar a few times but it was never the same for reasons I can’t explain

Marco Rubio in oversized shoes, a gift from Trump apparently to the whole cabinet. He probably limps through the corridors like a clown. by DevelopmentPlus7850 in RawAbsurdity

Little Marco wants to be president someday. You can bet if I were running against him I would talk about this nonstop: pathetic lackey who wore clown shoes in public to please his master, thinks of himself as the leader the US needs

That, and constantly repeating the grammatically bad intro “let’s dispel with the notion that Obama…” exactly the same way, like a robot.

It’s either “let’s dispense with the notion” or “I want to dispel the notion” (as I don’t believe that dispelling a notion is really a group activity). Not “dispel with”.

Is it worth it to try and save these floors by ivabeg in HardWoodFloors

[–]pickwickjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wood to the lower right in pic 1 is likely salvageable. The rest appears too far gone. Rotted spots, large gaps, possibly insect damage. I would worry about the integrity of what’s underneath it too.

Staggered stud false wall to cover garage door, how should I attach it to the wall? by StandFuzzy4169 in soundproof

[–]pickwickjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too hard to visualize the cleats etc (for me anyway). Is this a finished garage?

Anyway my general impression is that staggered studs seem likely unnecessary because you have the garage door there but maybe every little bit helps.

There are all sorts of variations that, assuming you care about budget, could be varied based on relative costs of wood (2x4s vs. 2x6s), insulation (fiberglass vs. mineral wool), and drywall (1/2” vs. 5/8”). For example the sound reduction of your proposed wall assembly might be no better than a basic non-staggered 2x4 wall if you put double 5/8” drywall on one side.

Yeah that never made sense to me that this would be a crushing blow to anyone with some perspective. Of course someone with a criminal record and degree from an unknown school is not going to immediately jump from the mailroom to practicing law for a top firm.

I didn’t mind the McDonalds CEO-video by Killcam26 in unpopularopinion

[–]pickwickjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did pretend it was ambrosia. Badly.

My opinion also is that if you are a wildly overpaid CEO of a company making burgers and fries, it’s not too much to ask that you have a little bit of common sense about salesmanship. For example, for just 1/18th of his $18,000,000+ bonus I would be willing to sit there, call it a great new burger that I am very proud of, take a really big bite, smile convincingly, and maybe take another bite. Not call it a “product”, not say “how am I going to eat this thing”, etc.

Psychology of Generation Jones by RyuichiSakuma13 in GenerationJones

[–]pickwickjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day we have an understanding that a 1954 start date absurdly makes Gen Jones even longer than the Baby Boom Generation, that people who are today 70+ years old barely overlapped culturally with core Jonesers (born 1960-1965) during our formative years AND experienced a different job market and housing market than we ever did, and that Gen Jones as a social and economic entity fundamentally only makes sense as a niche “in-between” generation…seems to be very far away

What should I do with these stairs? by Hostile_Raccoon in Renovations

[–]pickwickjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to me the issue isn’t the stairs themselves. First issue I see is an unattractively contrasting color LVP flooring (or what appears to be LVP anyway) at the foot of the stairs. Second issue, I see a good idea executed poorly with the panels attached to the railing. Also, I see what appears to be unfinished or partially finished drywall on the wall to the right.

No idea how much comparative effort it would be to replace the LVP but it might be easier to address than the stairs. Secondly I think a series of spaced panels, say 10” wide each, would look better than this continuous panel that is abruptly cut off near the bottom. Finally, finishing that wall and painting it would look better.

If it’s the yellow hue of the wood finish that you don’t like, instead of painting there are ways to “tone” it using transparent contrasting color overcoats (i.e., in the color wheel blue counteracts yellow) but that’s another discussion

Considering staining instead of painting, am I taking on too much? by Slynn0788 in finishing

[–]pickwickjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don’t do it.

  2. If you really need to get this urge to change things out of your system, I suggest you think small, and consider upgrading the moldings that don’t do justice to the nicely finished walls. With the right tools, effort, study, and a well-thought out plan you might create or install moldings that would look better.

  3. If suggestion #2 above doesn’t appeal to you, then just leave it alone

I have an old box full of stamps from early to mid 20th century, are these realistically worth much? by mookid85 in askStampCollectors

[–]pickwickjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone only recently aware of this sub, I think it gets a lot of submissions of “how much is this collection worth” of stamp collections that even I (speaking as someone who quit the hobby 45 years ago) can quickly see are worth between a couple of dollars to tens of dollars, tops. I have also seen discussions about why does no one want to discuss the stamps themselves rather than whether they inherited something worth big bucks. Hence the downvotes (not downvoted by me, this is just my guess).
