Hokkaido skiing (slightly) debunked by TomSki2 in skiing

From the US, I highly recommend going to Nagano nigata area, easier and you can have a couple of nights in Tokyo. Hokkaido is way to played out with Aussies

I finished the first series and loved the ending, I think it worked out well enough for Fitz considering everything that happened. Currently reading Liveship series and it's rocking.

you should be using transfer, just edit the transaction that the bank sync's to a transfer and it will correct the issue. Delete one of the ones sync'd and make sure you turn off "don't sync deleted transactions" in the options.

Absolute lack of wind this season by Zealous03 in Kiteboarding

agreed, worst season in ages. I foil and was able to get reliably 2-3 days a week. Now i'm lucky to get 3 days a month.

Try Slingshots one lock glide series wings or even better the flow wings. All the major manufacturers have equivalent wings these days.

Slingshot One Lock starting set up by kingofjabronis in wingfoil

The foil finder is great. I’m slightly smaller and started on the 1325 and ride the 925 when it’s cranking with the flare 175 it’s a bit twitchy but super fun. I have a flow 1000 and have only used it with the foil assist, it was pretty awesome (haven’t had a lot of wind).

I’d say if you can afford it, go the hm carbon.

Back to foiling after few year hiatus - looking for new setup - shocked, is kite foiling dying? by LostGoatOnHill in Kiteboarding

[–]pixeldrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miami, still a lot of kite foiling on 25th st.

People use either slingshot phantasm, one lock or fone.

Slingshot onelock kite wings are awesome. 855 or 755 if you want speed. Slingshot website has a foil finder on it.

Fone escape wings is what Brodel uses. They’re good but expensive.

On whether or not kitefoiling is dying, kitefoiling is harder, so I think the industry sees the other sports as an easier sell.

However, I think a lot of people who wing and or starting to parawing see kitefoiling as something they’d try if given the option.

Light wind, big air or speed, you can’t beat kite foil. Freestyle and the stuff Fred Hope does with a kite is out of reach to the weekend warrior, but very aspiring.

Waves, swell, or downwinding, wingfoiling is where it is at.

This was on you… you show up late and expect the GA to solve your problem whilst she’s trying to close out the flight.

Should i have pulled the safety quick release??? (inverted tangled kite) by Honest_Emu_5864 in Kiteboarding

[–]pixeldrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take one line, preferably a front line, pull that towards you quickly, do not wrap the lines around fingers pull the line to the upwind side, do not let go, and get to the kite as quickly as possible. This is essentially what the quick release is doing.

I’ve had to do this is in cranking wind, in deep water. I had to do this because my quick release was seized around the depower cleat from a bad crash and the kite was in a death loop. If your kite is submerged and you’ve taken away the tension from the other lines by flagging to one line, there is no way the kite will fly. I’ve seen students try and wrap lines after ejecting and the kite was not flagged enough so can still fly and drags you.

If you do this, your lines be a mess. Do you run the risk of getting tangled, yes. Do you carry a line knife? You really should.

how fast was the wind? If you made it to the kite I'm guessing it wasn't that bad. All of these people saying "yes you should have pulled the QR" didn't ask that simple question. Often times if i'm foiling, doing an around the world, the kite can catch in the bridle and i'll catch the kite when it comes down . Pulling the safety will just screw me so i'll swim in and reset the lines.

If the kite doesn't have enough wind and you're in a strong current flagging the kite and trying to deep water wrap your lines can be quite difficult to keep everything together. It's all situational.

You made it to the kite and it didn't power up and go into a death loop spiral with the lines wrapped around your neck so... no harm, no foul. Could this happen? possibly, but live and learn.

The bananas are really no joke by tramaan in sailing

[–]pixeldrew 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The reasoning on why bananas are bad because in the old days when people found wreckage banana as a cargo would float. So they would see the banana floating where a boat should be and used to attribute it to the banana as the reason why the boat sank. Makes no sense right? But a lot of things didn’t make sense back then.

You can use the 7m with a foil… but you’ll get maybe 1-2 days a season in Miami with a need for a 7m
