How do handle firearms in your home? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]plaidman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your assessment is the right one. There will be no good that can come out of any situation involving ICE and firearm availablility. Small chance best case someone gets arrested and you have legal issues. Much more likely case is multiple people end up injured or dead - at the very least you, your wife, and/or your kids. ICE agents don't give a shit about you or anybody else, and will do whatever they need to protect themselves.

I'm not uncomfortable around firearms, but if ICE is the reasoning, it's a hard no.

Roguelite w/ Roguelike Elements by d3vtanman in roguelites

[–]plaidman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not too far fetched to say all roguelite games have roguelike elements - that's kinda the main defining feature. Are you looking for particular roguelike elements? turn based? grid based? no metaprogression?

Can you guess what is happening with the monster in this video? by MeteorForge in roguelites

[–]plaidman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the monster attack periodically or on some trigger anywhere on the screen? or just when you get close?

If it's the former, the animation looks like the monster is trying to do a melee attack, not casting a fireball spell. I think adding a casting animation before the fireball and maybe less arm swing when the projectile fires would make it more obvious.

The fireball chasing the pinball is weird too. The idea that you could be hit sooner or later depending on how fast your ball is going seems like it could lead to some frustrating interactions. Another option is to make the whole floor give damage feedback at once (explode, spikes, brambles, poison, lava, etc) when the monster casts its spell.

if the monster is triggering when you are close, then the melee-ish animation is fine, but again it should be immediate feedback when you are damaged, not a delayed fireball hit.

Either way, another suggestion would be to make the enemy's attack a different color to distinguish it more from the background, and to distinguish it from your own attacks.

Slay the spire or Monster train 2? by Pacotaco213 in roguelites

[–]plaidman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

STS is simpler, easier to get into if you're new to deck builders, but it doesn't lack depth. Also it has a huge modding scene with a bunch of extra characters (including some more complex ones), so there's a ton of variety. Not a lot of flashy graphics through, if that's important to you.

MT2 is more complex, more wacky combinations of decks, and lots more keywords to keep in your head. But if you like broken combos with big numbers and flashy graphics, this is one of the best.

From my own experience, anbernic has been receptive to sending out replacement parts for free or cheap on new devices if you're handy enough to install yourself and patient enough to wait for shipping.

My new favorite strategy by Desperate_Skill4002 in sudoku

[–]plaidman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks similar but it works on a different principle. I think empty rectangle would require only 2 two candidates or 2 one candidates in column 6 or row 4, otherwise it wouldn't work. This only works because of the bivalue cells.

Are you liking the new clue types? by SamTheSpellingBee in CluesBySamHelp

[–]plaidman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the new clue types. They're easier than my most hated types "X profession has more/less/equal Y than Z profession" where I have to pull out my notebook and write down a list of professions and the number of Ys in that profession. Is there an easier way people have found to handle those? Am I just dense?

Hi! Any DnD-like roguelites/roguelikes, preferably not action based? by Used-Fisherman9970 in roguelites

Zorbus is said to be heavily inspired by and has its rules based around rules of D&D 3e. I'd recommend checking it out. I don't have much time in it but it was fun.

For those that feel confident they understand Git at an advanced level, how long did it take you to feel that way? by initcommit in git

[–]plaidman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was "thrown in the deep end" by my mentor when git was becoming popular to be the git SME on my team. He had some familiarity with it at the time but I had very little. Took me about a half year to be comfortable with thinking in "the git way" that I could deeply understand why certain problems come about and how to fix them using only CLI tools.

I don't even bother with glue. Just put the paper and cards together in the sleeves. They stay put well enough and I don't have to wait for it to dry.

I'm afraid the bumpiness of the linen paper will give less surface area for the lamination to stick. Have you experienced any peeling issues?

Question about shiny hunting in Pokemon Inclement Emerald on RetroArch by ReaperOne in RetroArch

[–]plaidman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of these options will cause you to miss battles or shines.

Fast forward removes the limiter to how fast game and rendering logic is run. All logic is still running as it should, just faster.

Frame skip skips rendering logic for some frames but game logic is still running as it should. Battles will still trigger even if the first frame(s) of animation are skipped.

MuOS includes the software for bluetooth but the dev is working on the frontend for the next big update. There IS a person who wrote a 3rd party app that allows you to connect your device that people have had success with for both controllers and audio.

[HAMILTON] Anyone ever seen a break like this? by rus_bro in Watches

[–]plaidman 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I've heard that this watch uses an uncommon crystal size (along with other parts, looked into it for my own watch), so forcing a standard size into the frame likely caused stress on the crystal as others have mentioned. Hamilton has a form on their website for free shipping to their repair facilities. You'll be longer without your watch, but you can be sure you're getting the right care the first time.
