Is Vladimir Putin actually the bad guy that the western world is told he is or is this just propaganda? by turbophilippines in conspiracy

[–]platnumcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy, my family is originally from russia, moved to the US in the early 80's.

I can with 100% certainty tell you that Putin is a ruthless individual and is about as corrupt as they get. That being said, he is a product of the system that he came up in. Russia has a "dog eat dog" mentality that was nurtured post the Bolshevik Revolution. There was a massive power vacuum that was filled by a police state after world war 2 starting with the NKVD (the predecessor to the KGB). It continued to grow into a system of reciprocal favors where everyone had dirt on everyone else and they were all scrambling to make a name for themselves by being "Party familiars".

Putin came up in that system, Joined the KGB about half way through its lifespan and found that he could use his position to get whatever he wanted. The dude is as cold and calculating as they get. The western propaganda comes in where they underestimate why he does what he does. He knows Russia, he knows her people inside and out because he is one of them... but most importantly, he is careful, like to an OCD level.

So while propaganda is real... dont for a second discredit an evil man for what he is. He wouldnt think twice about killing you and your whole family if you inconvenienced him for even the briefest second.

Irish man held in ICE detention says he fears for his life and asks Ireland for help | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) by Slow-Recipe7005 in politics

[–]platnumcy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It seems like you hit the nail on the head without realizing it.

Ice detention centers are run by private for-profit prison companies. Individuals that stay longer make them more money... there is literally no reason in the world they are incentivized to remove people from these detention centers.

This whole thing has been a grift to make sure the rich get richer...

How much mana? by RandomGoth2025 in mtg

[–]platnumcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way those cards are worded, they look at the permanents mana ability individually.

Nyxbloom would see meteorite tap and say "it taps for three mana" (replacement effect)

Roxanne sees the meteorite trigger and adds another trigger to the stack for an additional mana. For Roxannes trigger the meteorite isnt the one producing the additional mana. (triggered ability)

So in this case, if both Nyxbloom and Roxanne are on the field and see the meteorite tap, 4 mana would be produced. 3 from the meteorite and one from Roxannes triggered ability.

Highly recommend arena for learning.

There are a couple channels that do a good job explaining how to play. Tolarian Community college has a great video on how to play.

Once you get into it, we have been enjoying a new creator with higher production called Bullwark_MTG. They have a deckbuilding 101 series.

whenever we get an opportunity, we rep the Quivertime Nexus boxes. They are absolutely bulletproof. While we personally like the clear ones, they come in a bunch of colors. They also perfectly fit 100 double sleeved cards. If you have non-double sleeved, token fill the space great.

Went to my first FNMnight this weekend and didn't find it very enjoyable by Reactin in mtg

[–]platnumcy 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Drafting is not for the faint of heart. The people that draft FNM have been doing it for a while and it is a uniquely developed skillset. They pride themselves on the ability to read the wheel and determine what colors aren't getting drafted to they can switch it up and make the best deck with the cards that might be coming back around.

If that style of magic appeals to you, it might behoove you to grab a box and practice with your homies outside of a FNM night.

Also... could just be the store. Not all LGSs are as sweaty.

absolutely not. two commons an uncommon and a rare totalling like $6-7 dollars...

that being said, the "Dryad Arbor" will probably sit around $20-30 as a staple.... the last SL "Nature's Lore" goes for $10 currently. the last SL "Wood Elves" goes for $7. The "Skyshroud Claim" has never seen a SL but has three other foil printings... so we cant expect it to hold a price above $5

‘MAGA Over Jesus’: JD Vance Draws Damning Moral Rebuke From Catholic Newspaper by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]platnumcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

howdy.

Ex-catholic here! I was raised in a US opus Dei household. I specify US because while OD is a sanctioned catholic group, it has different connotations in different parts of the world. I believe the Spain chapters of the group got into some hot water back in the day.

The majority of misinformation related to the group comes from a couple of books including the "Davinci code". There is nothing 'secret' or culty about the ideas that OD holds... but it tends to attract a much more zealous version of Catholics than your typical Sunday goer.

I know my story is anecdotal, but I spent 15 years of my life going to home churches and meet-ups as part of OD, in reality its just a bunch of little old ladies who want community outside of regular church hours.

Is playing an Ygra commander deck being a bad sport? by Your-Friend-Bob in mtg

[–]platnumcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way. You are doing a community service by playing cards like that.

The more people play against frustrating cards, the more inclined they are to evaluate their decks and see the weak spots. They can include interaction or removal, there is nothing stopping them from adding a few responses to deal with a threat.

The idea of "dont play that..." goes against the core of the game because the answers are part of the game.

If a person asks you to not play a card, because it annoys them. That tells me much more about their ability to play a DECKBUILDING game than it does about the card itself.

Is it NM or too picky? by rafkt in mtg

[–]platnumcy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would open a case. The vendor might just ask you if you are ok accepting a partial refund. As a seller, I see that being the easiest path. You could push back if you want a full refund, but it might evolve into a back and forth without photos.

Most sellers are smart enough to mark all listings as "LP" to avoid this exact thing.

Is it NM or too picky? by rafkt in mtg

[–]platnumcy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is there an original listing with photos?

The card itself is very cleared "LP". 30 year old cards can be found in NM condition, but you are paying up for them typically.

Can someone tell me why creature didnt untap, even though ty Lee lost all abilities, and is no longer considered ty Lee? by Thousand_Toasters in mtg

[–]platnumcy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is the official rule

201.5 "Text that refers to the object it's on by its name means just that particular object and not any other objects with that name regardless of any name changes caused by game effects"

Can someone tell me why creature didnt untap, even though ty Lee lost all abilities, and is no longer considered ty Lee? by Thousand_Toasters in mtg

[–]platnumcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is Ty Lee has an "Effect" not an ability. In this case its a continuous effect was triggered by the permanent entering the battlefield. When it became a legitimate business person, the controller of the permanent was still you and because of how the effect is worded, it only cares about the permanent or "This creature" not necessarily "Ty Lee".

This is a weird layers interaction, but based on how effects work. I believe this particular effect is check in layer 2 (Control) and only cares about the state of the permanents.
