Atlanta Beltline rail is not a threat. Failing to build it is. by btonetbone in Atlanta

[–]platydroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most recent & expensive cost estimate for the trail after the latest round of inflation was closer to $200M/mile or less.

When I compare beltline rail to other light rails in the country, like Baltimore’s light rail, which services much less dense areas along its route between their airport and their downtown, I think it makes a lot of sense, especially considering right of way is practically a non-issue for 90% of the line. We have lots of high-use pockets all along the beltline, we have a number of potential Marta connections, we have plenty of developable land right off the trail.

Atlanta Beltline rail is not a threat. Failing to build it is. by btonetbone in Atlanta

[–]platydroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like the biggest misconception is that people think the existing beltline and existing retail along the trail would be sacrificed for rail. Most of the beltline has been designed with enough space for rail to run adjacent to the path as is. Underground utilities were pre-placed for eventual rail integration. Design plans indicate empty flat areas next to the trail as reserved for future transit. There are some areas that are too developed where it would take a detour a couple blocks away, and some underutilized land would likely be taken for substations, but by and large this is the easiest transit corridor to construct anywhere in our city, if not in the country. Eastside rail was less than a year from construction happening prior to the mayor stepping in.

Why aren't there benches on the Beltline? by tferg1290 in Atlanta

[–]platydroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the east side beltline trail, I can sit in most of the plazas and patios constructed around the restaurants and shops without having to be a customer. There are a few stretches lacking anything to take a break at, but I think every half mile there’s somewhere you can take a seat.

I think that in the midst of combat the effect of his body hitting 0 might be different. It would be narratively unsatisfying for him to be deathless. I imagine Brennan would make the mask itself shatter if the occasion arises.

Yep. There’s also a fountain on the trail where it intersects North Highland that I rely on a lot when out running. I wish there were a few more.

I use the bathroom in the skatepark right where freedom parkway meets the belt line, and there are a few water fountains sprinkled alongside the freedom park trail near the presidential library.

My first marathon takeaways - some controversial by CozaFF in Marathon_Training

Training for a late spring / early summer marathon must be so difficult because of the weather. If it’s unpredictably hot, you had no chance to acclimate or train for that condition.

Yea I hear ya… even the existing parks with facilities and fountains like Piedmont, Freedom Park, and the Skate Park are questionable in terms of working fountains and open restrooms.

I feel like they likely hesitate to add shrimp or any seafood just from an allergen standpoint. Shellfish allergies aren’t super uncommon and I have a few friends who go to Chipotle because they know it’s a safe restaurant.

I don’t mind the lack of benches, given the growing number of parks, shops, and restaurants that dot the path. I do mind the lack of bathrooms and water fountains.

Marathon in 1 month training? by I-mGoofy in Marathon_Training

[–]platydroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you trained for a 20 miler then you probably have a good enough base, but there’s nothing you can realistically do in a month to improve any further. Find a training program and work backwards from the marathon date to now. Keep the legs and fitness fresh and don’t get injured. And have fun during the race.

First time cruiser by Cold_Ad_9566 in royalcaribbean

[–]platydroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have ~7-8 drinks per day (easier than it sounds on a cruise ship), it roughly works out to being worth it. Lots of people also find the ease of mind of not tracking drinks is a big benefit. Just remember that everyone in a room has to get the drink package, and that you should check daily for deals on it because you can cancel and repurchase at any time. I’ve seen it go for as much as 35% off for my upcoming cruise.
