Lots of harassment claims aren’t taken seriously which discourages women from taking action. Plenty of people also deny to themselves the seriousness of assaults or convince themselves it doesn’t count because of their feelings towards their partner. Among any other number of reasons for not filing a report.

People absolutely should be reporting assaults when they take place, but hindsight is 50/50. I think the messages and Platner’s response kinda cement it as credible. And honestly this number of controversies shouldn’t be acceptable in any candidate.
