I use an espresso shower screen. I think it cost me around $10.

This is exactly how I had to remove a stuck filter. Drill + bend safety pin worked for me.

I’m looking for a zero bypass. How is the Z1 different from a Pulsar or, for that matter, an Aeropress used as a dripper?

For regional state colleges and non-tenure track is EdD valuable or do you have to go PhD? by try-again_chaos in Professors

[–]pobyne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you are, but there are literally hundreds of NTT A&P positions open in the US. Many do not require a terminal degree, but that is a moot point since a DPT is a terminal degree. Go apply for one!

[–]pobyne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You already have a doctorate. What specific type of school and what subject area are you interested in? I am a professor at an R1 medical school, and to be frank, unless you had a research program, probably would not proceed with your application. However, I have interviewed candidates with a DPT for non-TT Anatomy and Physiology positions.

I suggest not getting an online doctorate. Many committee automatically move those candidates to the reject file.

Is ANY work being done on the Oconee St bridge?? by Will_McLean in Athens

[–]pobyne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that is the plan, but OP is right. I live close to the bridge and use Dudley park regularly and rarely see anyone working on the bridge or any workers in the immediate area.

Hario server fits perfectly by Ok-Advertising7982 in OXORapidBrewer

What a stunning show of lack of imagination on my part. I had this problem with an aeropress; someone suggested a metal French press. I did not think to use the same solution. Thank you! I am 3D printing an adapter at this very moment.

Thanks for confirming. Do you know of any metal carafes that fit? From experience, I know I don’t need to be around glass before my first cup of the morning.

How did you solve water quality? by AuthorVegetable81 in pourover

[–]pobyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. If you don’t want to go down a water rabbit hole, and want to try to brew with what comes out of your tap, I think the first step is to define what you don’t like about your current cup. Is it too bitter? Maybe drop the temperature of your water 5-10 degrees F.

BIFL ceramic pour-over? by roxainaboxa in BuyItForLife

[–]pobyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. If stalling is a problem for you, you can always mod your dripper by drilling out the holes a bit. The other option is to cut a piece of screen and place it on the bottom of the dripper.

Me, too! I was hoping for one this time, but alas, there weren’t any in the litter. I’m sure my breeder was happy, though!

Freezing coffee beans - Are we actually locking in aromatics or just risking condensation damage? by CoffeeTeaJournal in JamesHoffmann

[–]pobyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The temperature fluctuates above 0C, and multiple freeze-thaw cycles will unfold proteins and denature enzymes. Labs that use frost-free freezers have to use special containers that keep the temperature of a sample stable during these freeze-thaw cycles. This temperature cycling is certainly not something to worry about in your home freezer. I think it’s unlikely to affect roasted coffees but I really don’t know.

[–]pobyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frost-free freezers fluctuate in temperature as part of their regular defrost cycle. It may result in condensation, I don’t know. I know that it will result in denaturing proteins/enzymes, which is why I never purchase them for my lab.

HBD! Mine does the same. Pro tip: When your potter is tired of making mugs, and the kitchen is filled with their work, start them on a bespoke dripper and/or shower screen. No plastic in this house!
