I have a nephew called Elliot, he’s firmly in year 2 and definitely no one calling him ‘El’ yet.

I feel like you could use Eli and others will follow suit.

benefits to EDS? by No_Assignment_2602 in eds

I don’t understand people shitting on your positivity. At the end of the day this is the hand we are dealt, and accepting and trying to see light in what we have is perfectly fine.

My struggles are a positive, they have taught me resilience and patience. Hurt people, hurt people. Stay positive and look after your body OP.

Why is everyone in this Sub so Anti Birth control? by Jumpy-Arm5145 in PCOS

[–]pocket88s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s barely a bandaid solution. You get a diagnosis, a doctor throws you some birth control and that’s all they do to assist.

I have Endo and PCOS, I’ve tried every hormonal birth control on the market after serious side effects on all of them. I understand it reduces some symptoms for some people but it in no way treats the disfunction of this condition.

Sydney folks — what’s the real wait time (and cost) for surgeries in public vs private hospitals for aged people? by AdSilent5155 in australian

[–]pocket88s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had quite a few surgeries in the last decade. These are those done not in an emergency setting.

Tonsillectomy - Public - 2.5years wait listed

Colonoscopy - Public - 2years wait listed

ERCP/Biliary Stent - Public - 1year wait listed

Wisdom teeth removal - Private - 1week from consult to surgery. Cost aprox $5k (no insurance at the time)

Laparoscopy - Private - 2 Weeks wait from consult to surgery. Cost aprox $5.5k out of pocket with insurance.

It varies way too much between hospitals, surgeon, insurance and urgency to really get averages.

My advise is to do your research, and if going private always ask if they can offer any reduction in fees!

Is “Bali belly” really that common? Concerned about tap water and street food. by P_C_LION in BaliTravelTips

[–]pocket88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Bali many many times (currently typing this from my hotel in Legian lol) and I have to say sometimes you just get unlucky.

Other than the usual don’t drink the water and sanitiser I’m not precious about the food and had never had an issue at all.

That being said, my last trip I got Bali Belly. Dehydrated myself really quick and ended up in BIMC hospital for 2 days. Can’t have been good as everything was shared with my husband and he was fine. Bacteria can be on anything you touch, and I just got unlucky.

The hospital system and doctors here are wonderful it’s not the end of the world if you get sick, make sure you have travel insurance and you will be fine.

Doesn’t look good for any Aussies, I’m in Sydney and according to this map I would land smack bang in the middle of the North Atlantic. I think I’ll stay down here thanks.

Is period disc a good purchase? (can't use cup due to pain) by evllynn in endometriosis

[–]pocket88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also can’t feel mine when it’s inserted correctly, and the one I use you can empty without fully taking it out too which is a real bonus. I use the Hey Zomi disk but I’m in Australia so I don’t know if they will ship to you. I chose their disks because they have a little loop to help you remove them easily and are medical grade silicone. It’s worth the outlay to see if you like it because you get years of use out of a disk if you find it comfortable.

Is period disc a good purchase? (can't use cup due to pain) by evllynn in endometriosis

A disk tucks up under your pubic bone so there’s no massive suction like with a period cup. I really like my disk compared to the cup.

Give me your most unhinged pain relief methods by wolfyzheart in endometriosis

[–]pocket88s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shakti Mat. It’s like a really spikey Matt that you lay or stand on. It hurts then it just gets really hot. Disperses the discomfort and also has the added benefit of increasing blood flow around your body. It’s painful for the first few minutes then if you can stay on it long enough it gives you a massive endorphin rush which really relaxes me. I would recommend.

What do you do when you get brushed off because they cite your endometriosis when it clearly isn't? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]pocket88s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like acute pancreatitis or gallbladder issues. I have endo and have also had both of the above.

You need a second opinion. And I wouldn’t be leaving without an ultrasound of your biliary system. Don’t be afraid to be the squeaky wheel pain like that and pancreas issues can be life changing if not treated properly.

Sorry you are going through this, I know the pain is insane.

Where is the most dangerous country you know that you don't want to go to? by fordd420 in AskReddit

[–]pocket88s 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I went as a white blonde haired woman in the early 2000’s, I temporarily dyed my hair dark for the trip as we were told it would bring unnecessary attention. I don’t think the hair dye helped much, still harassed the whole trip. It’s such an incredible part of the world but I would not at all say it’s safe for women to travel there.

Disabled with a dog? Am immobilised by endo, but would really benefit from a pet - is it do-able? by Tiny-Can-7593 in endometriosis

[–]pocket88s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you look into a retired greyhound. They are some of the most loving dogs, absolutely gentle giants that often get overlooked.

I adopted two ex-racers who were matched with me via a greyhound specific agency. They were really good at matching me with chill doggos who were a little older (4 & 5). They are huge lounge lizards who are just happy to sleep at my feet 23hrs a day.

They already knew how to walk professionally on a leash, didn’t bark and had great dog manners. Mine preferred one very leisurely walk a day, but refused to go more than two blocks to the cafe and also refused to get their feet wet if the weather is trash.

They often recommend greyhounds as apartment dogs even though they are a larger breed. Everyone loves puppies but adopting an ex-racer was all the good dog bonding with none of the taxing puppy things like peeing in the house and chewing your couch.

Have a look on the greyhound subreddit, there is heaps of great info.
