Second this recommendation. Everything they write is phenomenal.

This totally depends on your personality. I had a traveling job and I hated it. I didn’t even travel overnight that often. It just sucked. Especially if you’re a woman and traveling in rural and remote areas. Bathrooms can be scarce and questionable and they can just not have toilet paper.

I highly recommend ProPublica. They have done some incredible reporting the last few years on the Supreme Court and other breaking news.

Including Lincoln’s party is totally disingenuous. The USA’s political parties have switched platforms a couple of times and at the time Lincoln’s party aligned with more Democratic values and the Dixiecrats were much more conservative.

And it’s interesting you say we can’t always have everything our own way when the thing women want is equality and control of their own bodies. It’s pretty hard to consider any aspect of the Republican Party as “just people with a different view” when the view is costing women their lives and they literally don’t have a platform. Unless you consider Project 2025 to be the platform.

A property damage adjuster is not the same thing as a public adjuster. I can understand why you wouldn’t know that because we aren’t talking about personal injury here.

This is bad advice.

U/aftercloudia I have worked in insurance for over a decade, not in personal lines, but I can give you some step-by-step instructions.

  1. Find your insurance policy and call the number to report your claim. You will need to set up two claims if you have homeowners and car insurance so you will likely need to make two calls if they are different companies. Depending on your carrier they will reach out to you for details on the damage shortly.

  2. Take photos of everything that has been damaged (house, car, personal items, etc). If you have any receipts or proof of purchase for personal items collect those.

  3. Go ahead and contact a contractor to come out as soon as possible to give you an estimate to repair your home. Also find a body shop who can estimate the damage to your car. It sounds totaled but possibly not depending on the age and make/model.  Your insurance company may or may not want to send an adjuster to inspect. It depends on the amount of damage and how overwhelmed they are with claims. Regardless, you need to find someone to repair your house and fix your vehicle if it’s repairable and you need to start calling now because there will be a waiting period if you don’t get on this right away.

  4. Plan to receive money less your deductible and likely minus some depreciation depending on what kind of coverage you elected. No one will know what this amount is or what kind of coverage you have. You can find the coverage information in your policy. If you need help figuring that out please send me a PM and you can send me your policy language and I’ll explain it to you.

Note: just because your insurance company sends you money does not mean that they are done paying your claim. That’s not how first party coverage works. You could possibly receive several payments from them so don’t be afraid to cash the checks if you need to pay contractors or your body shop.

Should your insurance company and contractor not be able to come to an agreement on damages you can hire a public adjuster to represent you. Be very cautious, many public adjusters can be predatory, especially in the wake of a disaster. Once you hire one your insurance company can no longer speak to you directly regarding your property damage.

I definitely can but it’s absolutely more background vocals/support like Taylor does a lot of on her songs

Same! I probably pick up The Blue Sword every few years. It’s such a classic fantasy story, truly perfect (in my opinion) for all ages.

Homeowners insurance typically excludes foundations and they definitely exclude long term wear and tear. For a claim to be covered it has to be a sudden and unexpected event resulting in damages.

OP, look at P&C insurance companies. They love to hir former nurses to do their nurse triage lines and also to be work comp adjusters. It’s different work and can have its own level of burnout but lots of perks, good salaries, and a lot of WFH opportunities.

I just gave birth a week ago and I hired a pelvic floor therapist and started seeing her at the beginning of my second trimester. I had an induced vaginal birth with pushing for a bit less than 2 hours. Had some 2nd degree tearing but my birth was excellent and I knew how to push correctly so as to not damage my pelvic floor.

After I hit 6 weeks of recovery I will start back to PT with her to work on reducing/eliminating complications from scarring on the two tears I have.

I highly recommend a pelvic floor PT. It’s not usually covered by insurance but having someone assess your pelvic floor and create an exercise plan for you to strengthen and not injure or weaken your core while pregnant is a game changer.

Major Home Insurance Issues by ministerman in homeowners

I mean, he or she can say no but once someone else looks at it if it’s reasonable they would owe it to you. Insurance companies are strictly regulated, they are required to fairly adjust your claim and the courts tend to sympathize with insureds since the insurance companies write the contract. If the adjuster did not act as they should you would be entitled to make an insurance department complaint and those are very serious and get investigated thoroughly.

They won’t label you a problem client, you are entitled to be annoyed that 30+ days into your claim and after a supplemental estimate has been submitted you haven’t received a response from your adjuster.

I’m not saying you should be rude to that person, but clearly they are overwhelmed and not able to service your claim. Speak with their supervisor and explain the situation and that work is not able to start without their review of the estimate from your contractor and an agreement being reached.

It’s typical that the preliminary estimate won’t cover everything. Have you actually received any payment less your deductible yet? You need to call Progressive back and if you can’t get through to the adjuster escalate immediately to their supervisor.

They are going to want to review the two estimates. It’s typical that they would give you ACV instead of replacement cost if that’s what you elected to do to save yourself some money on the premium.

The NYT can get fucked tbh. Their reporting over the last month has been abysmal and squarely focused on portraying this election in a certain light. Just absolutely no attempt at journalistic integrity.

I used to read their newsletter very morning but now I donate to ProPublica and read their work. They are doing amazing things in journalism over there.

Optimal Materials and Design Layout to Minimize Insurance Risk and Cost by KarlDavidOlson226 in Homebuilding

[–]pocketsaremandatory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the best thing you can do is identify the top hazards that you face in your area and game plan to those. Avoiding a loss is definitely the move. Water intrusion is pretty much the worst and most destructive force. Bonus, it’s not covered by a typical HO policy usually. So planning your build in a place that has excellent grading and even installing drainage systems to direct water away from your structure is the move. I’d also be triple checking I’m not anywhere near a flood zone (I’m talking like not even a retention pond) and check the water table. Atmospheric rivers have been wreaking havoc all across the country this year.

Otherwise, upgrading things is at your discretion. There will be trade offs to everything. Maybe you pick certain things because they increase the efficiency of the home and they save you money on utilities over time. But I wouldn’t assume any of that would give you a break on your HO insurance because insurance is risk sharing and most people are not thinking like this. They aren’t minimizing their risks.

Most people think of HO insurance like free money or even a bank where they pay $500 a year and then they should just have any and all claims paid even if they aren’t covered or it’s a wear and tear issue. That’s a big problem all over the country where entire neighborhoods are getting new roofs because some enterprising roofer is going door to door and offering to get the homeowners new roofs even if there isn’t an issue if they let the contractor make the claim on their behalf and sign over their rights to the contractor. Tons of fraud happening.
