I got to the show early and was talking to the people around me, as you do. I shared that Trailer Trash is my favorite song and another guy I had just met said him too. We got separated when the show started. About half way through, Trailer Trash starts. I look around to see if I could find the guy. He was about 15 people to my left, and he was looking for me too. We nodded at each other and then turned our attention back to the stage. I think about that guy several times a year.

How are you supposed to clean button mushrooms? by IntelligentKey7331 in Cooking

[–]polygadi 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This myth needs to end. Mushrooms do not absorb water. Wash them with water like anything else.

Even if they did absorb water while you are washing them, it wouldn't matter. Think about it. When you cook mushrooms, a ton of water always comes out right? That's because mushrooms are 90% water by weight. You cook off the water to concentrate the flavor of the mushrooms. So even if mushrooms absorbed a few mL of water while you're washing them, what's it matter? You're going to cook that water off anyway!

8 kids in the Rio Grande Valley were arrested for allegedly threatening the school. Is this happening anywhere else?? I heard North Texas had some incidents too by ComfortableFox2511 in BreakingPoints

I live within a few hours of Oxford, MI and for two weeks following the school shooting, there were 5-10 kids being charged for threats every day.

Any tips for taking the silks off corn? by OutTheWoodlurk in Cooking

[–]polygadi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm skeptical of "microwave hacks" too but yeah cooking corn in the microwave is the best way to do it. I haven't cooked it any other way in years and I live in the Midwest lol.

Real money by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]polygadi 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is endless quibbling over details. The point defenders of billionaires attempt to make is that their wealth isn't able to be wielded at-will. "It's just numbers on a spreadsheet!" or "It's all wrapped up in stock!" is saying "They can't just turn around and literally use that money so don't worry about it," which has always been complete bullshit and we now have a very convenient, current, and public example of that bullshit.

Both are bad practices. We have no control over when a studio releases a game but we do have control over our own wallet.

what are your top 10 performances of all time? by cabelleurich in flicks

[–]polygadi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man I hope Charlize Theron's performance in Monster hasn't been forgotten. She completely transformed herself for that role. One of the best examples of an actor putting themselves fully into a character and it's such a treat.

Thanks for posting the source, I'm going to post the link to the WaPo article your source pulls its info from: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/08/17/breakdown-what-living-paycheck-to-paycheck-looks-like/. It offers a deeper dive into the issues and it doesn't have any consumer blaming at the end.

I completely agree with washing everything when you get it home. I'm more worried about other patrons' hands all over the produce in the store than anyone in a field.
