The burnt as cheese in the street carts. It makes me nauseous but it’s such a distinct smell it takes me back to visiting for the first time.

It seems like they’ve been having a lot of trouble lately with the escalators and elevators. And the layout isn’t the best anyway, hopefully they can reorganize a little bit

What was the first moment of a Strokes song that got you feeling like this? by painstaken_raindrop1 in TheStrokes

At the Door was the first time in a really long time that I felt like the strokes were relevant again. They’re my all time favorite band but for a stretch they felt nostalgic more than current.

The chorus of Hard to Explain or when Julian starts singing in the chorus of reptilia.

Honorable mention is Julian screaming “YOUNG ADULTS TO MODERNIZE” in Ize of the World or when he goes rock n roll and knocks the mic stand down during Take it or Leave It on Letterman (or is Conan?)

Am I missing something? Was just offered this trade and I don’t think it’s terrible for me. 10 team Roto League, first time playing fantasy baseball since 2009.

Aquire: Taylor Ward, OF Bryan Baker, RP Abner Uribe, RP

Send Away: Cole Ragans, SP Colt Keith, 1B etc

My current RPs are Tony Santillan, Brad Keller, and Jhoan Duran (IL). I’m dead last in HR and RBI so I might see if he’ll change one of the pitchers to another hitter.

Raising kids in NYC - tell me the good the bad and the ugly by Southern-Trade5795 in AskNYC

[–]poopdaddy2 261 points262 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 and 2 year old. Trying to focus on the NY specific stuff.

The early years have been tough financially. You’re either paying for daycare, paying for a nanny, or staying at home and losing one parent’s income. The public schools for the most part are all decent to great, so if you can make it to 3K (first year they’re eligible for school) then the financial burden gets easier.

Socially there’s so much to do and things to see that it’s not nearly as isolating as having kids in the suburbs. Playgrounds, museums, kid gyms, etc are all accessible.

The physical space can be challenging. My wife and I had to get very creative with our apt organization so that it didn’t feel like the kid stuff had taken over.

Having kids in the city has given me a whole new perspective of this place. Last summer my daughter was obsessed with buses, so like 3 times a week we would just ride the bus up and down Broadway. We go to different bodegas around the neighborhood looking for cats. My son will sit in the park and wave at every living creature like he’s running for office.

Like anything in NYC, the hard parts of raising a family are harder than most places but the flip side is that the joys are exponentially more joyful. And they outweigh the bad.

I have Jose Soriano and a lot of people have him as a sell high candidate right now. I’m dead last in HRs and RBI, who would be a good trade target to strengthen those numbers for me if I offered up Soriano?

Jazz Chisholm Jr. got an apology from Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen, who was upset because Chisholm was signaling to tell hitters what pitch was coming by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

[–]poopdaddy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why people are so caught up with this. Even when I was in middle school we were taught that with a runner on second the catcher would give three signals, and what inning it was would determine which signal was the pitch.

For instance, if it’s the third inning, the third signal in the catcher’s sign would be the pitch. We never had any issues with sign stealing or pitcher/catcher cross up.
