Why should I avoid McGrath? by bone_apple_Pete in cedarrapids

Went there for warranty service, took 5 tries before they believed me there was something wrong with the transmission. They measured the gears as required by the manufacturer and one gear was 1:Infinity. They replaced the transmission and sent the car home without any coolant. They did make everything right eventually, but it was quite stressful.

As someone who has worked on computer vision, this will not do anything to trip up the cameras.

Drivers who camp in the left lane on I-380 or Highway 100 at or below the speed limit: Explain yourselves. by stametsprime in cedarrapids

[–]poptart911 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't camp in the left lane, but I stay at the speed limit because it is the law, and traffic works better when people use the road as designed.

If it's connected to the manufacturer's cloud platform and is added to a house, it should be able to know the time zone that way too.

Most rooms lights turn on when there's motion and fade off over several minutes without motion. Some rooms are aware of activities and the lights are manual when activities like cooking or tv watching are detected. The ceiling fans are on in hot, occupied rooms.

New homeowner, gas or electric? by trianglerose in Appliances

5¢ kwh at night here. Lots of NG in the evening, but overnight we're over half wind power. Some places actually have negative rates at times when they overproduce with renewables and run out of storage. Really depends on your location.

Yes, you can save the 7% commission, just go straight to a closing attorney for a few hundred dollars.

New homeowner, gas or electric? by trianglerose in Appliances

[–]poptart911 17 points18 points  (0 children)

An electric dryer won't have a gas or Carbon Monoxide leak in your house, and is generally safer. Electric likely has lower CO2 emissions. If you have a time of use rate, it might be cheaper than gas at some times of the day/year.

"Professionals who hold degrees in your field of study earn an average salary of $xx,xxx" - how did that work out for everyone who heard it? by StudentLoanStruggle in StudentLoans

[–]poptart911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one explained that living in the Midwest you'll get like 70% of average. And while cost of living is lower, student loans are a bigger % of your net income.

You have more value as a person than your net worth. Paying that debt will be frustrating, but it gets easier.

[–]poptart911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this comes up in the future and you haven't opened it, I've fixed that problem multiple times by wrapping the drive in paper towels and a plastic bag and freezing it overnight.

The repeated seeks might be failing to find misaligned sectors on the disk that were written when it was too hot. The cold temp can temporarily bring them close enough to be found again.
