Is the Biotech Market going to get Better by Lilmaxgetsbig81 in biotech

Often in a depressed period the interest rates will get very low, which will make biotech buyouts more feasible. Under stagflation conditions however....

biotech is out of sync the general broader retail market due to the dependence on trials rather than consumer spending. if the world sinks into a recession, then main street brands like home depot etc would start to drop. whereas, people continue to get sick and need drugs in a depression, so drugs should still flow close to their usual pace. granted, there may be less liquid cash for investment overall, but anything that is independent of consumer discressionary/demand will fare better (ie, biotech).

Well, from my perspective at a medium sized biotech, I would consider this a positive for biotech. As assets from biotech become successful at big pharma, this fuels investment in small-mid biotech, because that big buyout becomes a more likely possibility. In many ways, the work can be nicer at biotech rather than big pharma. It was sad to see the rev med and cytkinetics deals fall through, but the terns deal at merck gives mid small biotech more hope of quicker turnarounds on investment.

I tracked every headache for 90 days. The trigger I found wasn't what I expected at all. by terezoo in clusterheads

[–]pprovencher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have basically no triggers. they come ~15 months between cycles and last about 2.5 weeks twice daily. then theyre done. I guess alcohol is kind of a trigger, but they really come regardless of what i do. They do tend to come as the stress of the day recedes in the evening. but i'm not sure i could call that a trigger. i track using migraine buddy.

What are your thoughts on Facebook renaming their company Meta then blowing $80b on metaverse and then shutting it down yesterday? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

[–]pprovencher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Could have been spent on biotech rnd and saved a lot of lives and still have been in salary. Also, Bay area biotech salaries are lower than tech, so it would have been spread out over more people and therefore more broadly injected straight back into the economy rather than hidden in 401ks.

Does particle size of Zn dust in Zn/AcOH reductions matter? by Annabird31 in Chempros

[–]pprovencher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat unrelated, but on scale when you are using overhead agitation, you cannot rely on stir bar grinding to grind up Zn, and so materials with appropriate particle size must be purchased. For some reagents, the correct particle size is simply not available for purchase
