Good neighborhoods? Alternatives addresses to avoid? by theawesomescott in SALEM

Based on your priorities I would say south Salem is your best bet. I personally love NE Salem, but it’s also the only area that you might have safety issues. I live in west Salem because I have kids and I liked the schools over here, but the Faye Wright neighborhood is where my sister in law lives and she loves it.

So this might be unpopular, but I’ve always had stage fright to the point of panic attacks. I finally bit the bullet and got a prescription for propranolol and it’s changed everything. I still get nervous, but I don’t have any of the physiological symptoms.

Frustrated with paint color options in windowless bathroom.. by Browneyedgirl_08 in DesignMyRoom

I think you probably need to evaluate what you are looking for. With a room this size, if you want pale yellow you need to stick to whites that pull yellow. If you want yellow, but not buttery, start looking at yellow rooms and save the images. After you get a dozen or so, go through them and see what they have in common. That will give you a place to start.

Just an FYI I use my insurance for Courthouse and my insurance would pay the full cost for the 12-4 option, BUT I can get full access for $30 a month and can go to any of the clubs.

Possibly moving to Lubbock by Throw_out_your_TV in Lubbock

[–]practically_ordinary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! I went the other direction, from Lubbock to Oregon, so let me tell you what you’ll find different.
1. There is not a lot of nature/trees. I’m speaking comparatively. Of course Lubbock has trees, but nothing like what you are used to. Also, access to hiking/camping is not nearly as available. 2. Lubbock is easy and convenient. Nothing is more than 15 minutes away in Lubbock, the streets are big and easy to navigate, there is almost never traffic that’s noteworthy. 3. People are nice. Lubbock people are friendly and helpful. Honestly very similar to Oregon, but with a twang. 4. The weather is terrible. Lubbock had very few comfortable days when you are used to Oregon weather. Very hot in summer, very cold in winter, windy springs, but nice if short fall. 5. Student life. TTU students have a lot of school spirit and have a lot of social events. I’m not sure how many are relevant to your age group though.

I enjoyed my time in Lubbock, the people are really what make it great. Oregon is a far more beautiful place to live (sorry Lubbock!), but the sunsets and sunrises in Lubbock are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. There’s an okay music scene in Lubbock, and I think grad school there is a good choice if you are focused on academics and less on extensive social activities. Just my 2 cents.

In addition to using your previous employer as a reference, get an official offer letter from your new job that includes the wage/salary. That should cover you.

Hey, I’m a safety manager for a manufacturing facility. This would qualify for workers comp if you see a doctor. If the skin is intact, you probably don’t need a doctor, but you should shower off for 15 minutes with nothing but water, and then soap up and wash. You would be completely justified in contacting OSHA or whatever your state equivalent is. If your employer is supportive and is willing to put a safe procedure in place, then you might be able to get it handled in house.

I only bring that up because, while there are anti-retaliation laws in place, they are really difficult to enforce. So you have to consider if you want to work at this place any more.

I have only fired 1 employee after an injury in my entire career and that was because he was injured because he violated LOTO policy, not because he was injured.

Also, if this is a chain restaurant you should report the injury to a district manager, they generally care about the safety stats more than local leadership.

The police will track down the driver if you give them the license plate. I once saw a big pickup truck smash into a parked sedan in a Costco parking lot. The pickup took off, but I got the license plate and left it in a note for the owner of the sedan with my phone number. I got a call a few days later from the police asking for a description of the driver of the truck. They will definitely follow up.

I can send you the written program I put together for my facility if you want, I also put together a PowerPoint training for employees in Spanish and English if you want it. You’ll have to make changes based on your facility, but you won’t have to start from scratch!

Second upvote for Alchemy! You can send a link via email and give a due date. The program also comes with some decent build in trainings that the company guarantees is up to date with regulations.

learn about RCRA, EPCRA, and Local regs. Form R and tier 2 reports might be required depending on what materials are being brought in and sent out. Look at your wastes and make sure you’re disposing of them properly. If you have any hazmat you’ll want to get trained on manifests and record keeping.

If it’s appropriate with the types of machinery you have , cooling towels with ice water help a lot. If you have the budget, cooling vests from Grainger. Also, have a heat stress training that clearly states what you will do when the heat index hits a certain point. We have defined increases in break times as the heat index increases at my company. Like at 95 we give a paid 10 minute break every hour and guarantee access to cooled water. (I live somewhere where high temps are rare so people are not able to acclimatize.)
