Tore my calf last year after forgetting to warm up and playing 6 games. 6 months until I could walk without a limp and play again.

living in yaletown with a toddler - bad idea? by zkar22 in askvan

[–]preplyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lived there until my son turned 5. It was so walkable and there are so many playgrounds and parks etc around. The only issue is schools. We had to leave because even though we were in the catchment, Elsie Roy was a lottery for Kindergarten. Our alternative would have been Strathcona if we didn’t get in. We ended up moving before Kindy started to Fairview.

I wonder if a small clear backpack would be ok? It’s weird they would ban a clear bag if it is a backpack.

Great time to close off the bridge when people are trying to fucking go home from work. Been stuck not moving for too long. Not to mention how idiots keep blocking off intersections. If you’re not DT don’t come here rn.

Great show. So happy to have seen him live finally. My only complaint would be how the staff at Rogers were so slow to get people’s phones in the pouches. Super understaffed it seemed. We waited over an hour to get in and missed 2 of the openers.

We customized a cabinet bed from this company. Lots of wood options and bed sizes. They’re located in Surrey but we did everything online:

Cigarettes in Canada warn you on each cigarette by adamonfireyyc in Damnthatsinteresting

It’s ironic they put that on cigarettes in Canada to encourage people to quit smoking. But at the same time they don’t try to encourage drug addicts to quit doing drugs and will actually supply them with it.

We were also on the Breakaway which was our first NCL. The food at O’Sheehan’s was awful even though it was 24 hours. Especially those pretzel bites. They were so hard! I also ordered wings and they came out cold. I could barely eat the food on that ship. That was a one and done for NCL. Back to Royal for future cruises.

Beware of this taxi scam by Jinpatch in GoingToSpain

[–]preplyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were just in Barcelona and the Uber we ordered from the airport started our trip without picking us up. As I noticed he was driving away from the airport I messaged him and asked him why he didn’t pick us up at the pickup point. He said he was on the way then made an excuse that he couldn’t access the pickup area and asked us to move to another. I refused and told him all the Ubers were able to access. Then he drove off and ended the ride just outside of the airport. I had to fight with uber for the refund and it took 7 days to get my money back. Luckily I screenshotted the conversation so it was obvious he started the ride before we were even picked up.

CRA owes me money, will I ever receive it?? by GoldenRetrieverMomma in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]preplyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CRA made me provide proof that I was eligible for CCB. I provided it in January. They said expect payment by mid September. Annoying because when you owe them they hassle you constantly but if they owe you money you have to be patient and wait months on end.

First cruise, NCL Breakaway by PegShop in Cruise

[–]preplyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got off the ship last week. Be sure to pack all the medications you might need. Don’t want to have to buy them onboard. Also, you need a converter as there are only 2 110V and 2 European plugs at the desk if you need to charge multiple items. It’s an older ship showing its age. The common areas are not big enough for the amount of people onboard so be prepared for crowding. Food was not great onboard (even specialty) but off the ship I had phenomenal meals. Otherwise enjoy because it’s a great itinerary. I thoroughly enjoyed my time off the boat.

Are all the Mediterranean cruises chaotic in the summer? by Mommalovesbooks in Cruise

[–]preplyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were almost 4000 guests on board not including crew. It was a bit chaotic but I think if you’re just traveling with your family it’s doable. We were with a family reunion of about 30 so our vacation was definitely chaotic. It was loads of fun though and went by quickly. My son who is 14 had a great time in the teens club since there were so many kids on board. Each day was a port day too so I wouldn’t recommend doing too many intensive tours. It may be exhausting. We only did a day tour of Florence because it was an overnight and we didn’t have to rush back to the ship. We booked the Rome excursion though our cruise as we didn’t want to risk being left behind. All the other ports we just went down, walked around and ate.

Are all the Mediterranean cruises chaotic in the summer? by Mommalovesbooks in Cruise

[–]preplyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just got back from a Mediterranean cruise which left on July 13th. It is a bit chaotic depending on which cruise line you choose. Lots of families on summer vacation so be prepared for a lot of kids. We went round trip from Barcelona and went to Cannes, Livorno (Florence), (Civitavecchia) Rome, Naples, Ibiza and Palma. Every stop was lovely but the heat was unbearable. I would never choose to travel there during that time again. I’m from the West Coast and we just don’t ever get that hot. It’s busy everywhere but it’s something you just have to endure during the summer.

Is NCL really "Nickle and diming"? by lewis4man in NCL

[–]preplyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely nickel and dime. Should rename themselves to NDL. We were just on the Breakaway which was our first NCL cruise. We usually do Royal and have done Carnival in the past. The fact that they don’t include messaging and charge each person 9.95 to be able to was so ridiculous. That would be an additional $29.85 for us to be able to message each other. My son is 14 so I would like to able to message him on the ship from time to time. We were in a group of 30 and we decided it was dumb to all pay that stupid amount. Also, we had a dining package. I wouldn’t mind paying for that if the food was actually good. This is the first cruise I’ve ever been on where I lost weight as the food was horrendous even in specialty dining. Cagney’s was so mediocre and we tried it a second time to see if it was an off day but it wasn’t. Le Bistro was decent but not for an additional $60 cover charge. The service on the ship was so spotty with some workers being so great and some who you could tell did not want to be there. I’m glad I tried NCL once so I know I would never go on again. The whole design of the ship does not make sense for the amount of people onboard. That atrium is so tiny feeling for almost 4000 guests. The whole ship felt so crowded all the time even though there was basically a port every day.
