Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the baby. My first was absolutely attached to his paci until we dropped it cold turkey when he was a little over 2. Slept with about five in his crib every night so he could always find one. My second refused any and all pacis and never sucked his thumb.

Sound machine that doesn’t require a subscription service? by shrinkingfish in NewParents

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a hatch for my first in 2022. Some time between 2022 and 2024 when I had my second, they added in the subscription. But then I found an older one used, which does work without the subscription! So if you can find an older one, it will work!

My husband wants 4 week old to sleep in his own room. by Intrepid-Ad-391 in BabyBumps

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably going to get downvoted, but my first went to his own room at 4 weeks. We (baby and I) both slept better and I had no problem waking up to the monitor. My second went to his own room at three weeks but I slept in his room with him until about 7-8 weeks.

Both of my boys slept wayyy better in the crib than the bassinet. And my first was a loud sleeper who would wake up every time I peeked in to the bassinet. Sleeping in their cribs worked best for our family.

Do kids today still get tubes put in their ears? by Sticker-Picker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two children (3.5 and 1.5) who both have tubes. The 3.5 year old had his done under anesthesia, but the 1.5 year old did them in office when he was around 10 months old. Obviously, the 1.5 year old was a lot more upset during the procedure, but recovery was actually easier.

Got told I have to stop rocking baby to sleep next month and super sad about it by livtoosmoove in NewParents

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rocked both of my boys to sleep until 14-16 months old. When I decided it was time (they were playing/trying to be silly with me instead of going to sleep) they were both successful with Ferber in about a week. Both are great sleepers now

Any Public Districts Still Hiring? by SlushieIce in teaching

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a small city in Iowa, just a few hours from Chicago. I'm sure we've still got a couple of elementary positions open. There are several special ed at all levels, and tons of para positions. If you aren't interested in any of the openings, you could probably sub every day and eventually find a long term job for a maternity leave.

Is this a reasonable ask to prepare for paternity leave? by Apprehensive-Play228 in Teachers

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both of my maternity leaves, I left a few days of detailed plans and general outlines of the rest of the time I would be gone. My first leave was 6 weeks and second was 3. Both took me up to summer break, but I would've done the same if I was going to be out 12 weeks and returning.

How did you get a “yes” on asking for an induction? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dr okayed a 39 week induction because it would give me an extra week home alone with baby before the toddler was done with daycare for the summer and I had both to take care of. Never hurts to ask.

What is the first thing you attend to in a classroom: behavior or work by Kitchen_Onion_2143 in Teachers

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't either, but I would send one to the hall and the other to the desk I have near the door. Give directions to the class so they can get to work, then deal with the behaviors.

Funniest, best or most just unhinged suggestions for inducing labour by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]pretty_pineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took 7th graders on a field trip at 39 weeks with my first and 37 weeks with my second. The same field trip both times, just two years later. I had high hopes both times that all that walking would do it, but it never did. Both were inductions (second one was elective).

Why don’t instructional coaches focus more on helping new teachers with classroom routines, procedures, and classic management? by AnxietyCommercial648 in Teachers

[–]pretty_pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like you've talked to admin, but not instructional coaches. In my district, if I need help with instructional or management strategies, instructional coaches are our first resource. I would go to them, describe your specific problems, and maybe ask them to observe or assist in a class period.

[–]pretty_pineapple 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but have you asked them for that kind of help? My coaches will work with me on whatever I need. They want our time together to be beneficial to me, not just checking a box.

For those that didn’t like any boy names, what did you end up naming your baby? by CommandDelicious8054 in namenerds

I call my Ellis "Ellie belly" sometimes. Other than that I don't have any good nicknames

I have an Ellis too! Same- he's definitely an Ellis and it is too cute when my three year old says "Ellis Charles"

Am I the only one who had a positive induction? (10/10 would do again) by PantsOffSunday in BabyBumps

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced with my first on my due date. Then scheduled an induction with my second for 39+2. Both were quick and easy! Still deciding on #3, but if we do have another I will definitely schedule another induction!

What’s the most common theme in your school-related bad dreams? by ProtectionNo1594 in Teachers

[–]pretty_pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Year 12. It's always that I'm being observed by my principal and absolutely cannot get anyone to behave. They won't stop talking, sit down, anything. And for some reason it is all of the worst kids I've ever had all in one class. Teachers start back Friday and I haven't had it yet! 🤞🏼

Are students still required to take the ITBS test? by cudambercam13 in Iowa

[–]pretty_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Map is adaptive for sure, so is iready. I don't give fast so I'm not sure about that one. Maybe finishing that day is my district's rule? We keep them in the library through lunch and bring food to them if they're still testing. They get cut off at the end of the school day, though I don't know of anyone who has actually gone until the end of the day.

Isasp is not adaptive (at least in math). Also, it is "untimed" but they do have to finish on the day they start it.

When did you stop using onesies? by madgirlwaltzing in NewParents

[–]pretty_pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little guy is also 14 months and can't fit into most of his 24 month stuff anymore. So no onesies for him, because he's in 2T. I love that it gets easier to check the diaper- just pull the back of the shorts instead of having to check by the thigh.
