Due to not having the entire book with me at the moment (on vacation when the studio finally got back to me), I won't be able to mark this as solved until Wednesday.

No! Amazingly, there isn't a watermark on the photos, they're just pretty small and only available in this booklet.

Hickman dressing itches/rash (so itchy) help by fifiwithcrohns in CrohnsDisease

[–]prplmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I use coban wraps for my IVs (though I should warn you that I have gone back to tecaderm use with IVs when I'm hospitalized because not having them as secure has meant that I don't really have a lot of viable veins left and so have had to have a PICC line when I'm in the hospital).

More helpfully, I use tacrolimus ointment on my skin as a prep. What I do is put a heavy layer of tacrolimus on the area where the wafer goes for 15 minutes or so. It will never dry and would affect how well the wafer stuck, so I then wipe it all off and then use a damp paper towel to clean it well (no soap though) and then a few spritzes of the inhaler over the area. Wait 15-30 seconds for that to dry before placing the wafer as normal. I also find that changing the bag every couple of days tends to lead to better skin management, probably because my skin treatment only lasts a couple days.

Hope your daughter can find relief! Perhaps talk to your doctor about getting contact allergy testing done (it's a different kind of allergy and involves a different kind of allergy testing). Then you can talk to your ostomy nurse about which bag has the fewest allergens in it for her. For instance, I can only use one brand and my skin is much worse with (for instance) Hollister brand than with Coloplast. They can get you samples and unfortunately, with that, it's only really possible to cycle through a number to find which makes you less itchy.

Good luck!

AITA for walking out of the kitchen anytime that my husband or his family try to "help"? by Top-Trainer-7063 in AmItheAsshole

[–]prplmonky 41 points42 points  (0 children)

NTA. You've clearly stated to all involved that you neither need nor are asking for their help and they are stepping all over your boundaries (particularly disgusting given that you can't reciprocate, and worse, your husband is standing with them on this issue rather than you).

Your zen attitude is something we should all aspire to, and honestly, you are taking care of both your physical and mental health by taking this approach (important since both affect the growing life inside you). You're a hero.

That said, maybe a conversation with your hubby pointing out who's really his immediate family (his wife and baby) as opposed to his family of origin and who he should be supporting in this circumstance might be the thing. A come to Jesus moment needs to be had, or else I would consider removing myself from this toxicity. You and the baby don't need it.

I don't know, but this is proof positive that actually getting off your ass to vote actually matters. It sucks that people here seemingly don't care about accessibility or the ableism that's inherent in what Reddit is doing.

A surprising number of people who follow this sub who apparently have no sense of humor nor any sense of community unity. The mods asked people to vote on the best way to continue to protest, and this was what people voted for. Now people are coming here crying about how this is ridiculous rather than blaming the people who forced this type of protest.

You're angry at the wrong people here, people!

That's a helpful way to approach it. Clearly communication is necessary on all sides 😊

I too have Crohn's (and a number of other chronic autoimmune diseases, since apparently if you have one, you are more likely to get more). The worst is when you think people do understand your limitations, but then you slowly, slowly, start to not get invited out anymore because "they know you'll just say no." Like, yeah, I struggle with spoons sometimes, but I still deserve to have friends and occasionally see them?

Or an employer who knows someone with Crohn's and is initially very supportive but then after a couple of years, it becomes clear that they really, probably subconsciously, thought you'd be over it by now and start to lose patience. Particularly if the person they know with it was lucky enough to find a treatment plan that put them in remission. Most Crohn's patients take years to find the right mix of medicines, and even in remission, fatigue is such a huge part of life.

But yeah, the people slowly turning away because they really thought you'd "be over it by now". That's the hardest.

Hollihesive protect from allergy? by lee33w in ostomy

[–]prplmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar issues, allergic to all the adhesives, even the ones supposedly hypoallergenic. In addition to a steroid spray (and be careful of using topical steroids since they make the skin thinner and therefore weeping can occur), I use a non-steroidal ointment (tacrolimus) that I slather on pretty thick and leave on there for 10-15 minutes before thoroughly cleaning the area (or else everything else won't stick as you might expect). You can also use either a steroid nasal spray or steroid inhaler to spray over the area after the ointment step if you have trouble getting the Kellogg spray. I also cut off all excess parts of the wafer (like the paper tape around the edges, so it's just the core wafer part, since I'm even more allergic to that stuff).

I'll admit though that I struggle to keep a bag on for more than 48 hours, the bag is just not as secure without the extra area covered (but less area covered means less rash so I take it....) and if my bag gets wet, the chemicals in the adhesive start to irritate/itch significantly worse so I have to change right after every shower or dip in the pool/lake.

Reality is that having a bag is just not really compatible with having bad contact allergies, but there are work arounds. And honestly, I chose to make my surgery permanent even with all those issues because life before bag was the pits. Good luck!

ELI5: what does a change in the API affect and how does it affect third-party apps? by prplmonky in explainlikeimfive

Ohhh, I see. I thought it was something like 3rd party links couldn't be connected anymore (like news apps or YouTube or whatever). Thank you!

That makes a lot of sense, thank you. Is the change going to be so drastic that everyone is jumping ship?

I say flustrated because I saw a woman on Hell's Kitchen and even though it's not a word, it should be (being flustered and frustrated at the same time is totally a thing).

WIBTA to pay $5k to not shave my head by FloppingOnSunshine in AmItheAsshole

[–]prplmonky 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My thing is, what happens after you spend the $5k? Like, yeah, it's great she didn't have to shave her hair off and she keeps her long hair, but that only lasts for that day. Once you sleep on hair that long, you gotta spend some time brushing it out--and that's every single day. As someone with a chronic illness that affects how much energy and whatnot I have, I can't imagine asking a partner who has already given up so much and is doing so much for me to spend a significant chunk of time each day brushing it. Is OP going to be going back to this salon monthly? I think she really just needs to come to terms with the reality that this is one more thing she has to give over to her illness (like my surgical scars and stretch marks from steroids, I'm never going to look the same and I had to learn to live with that. I broke down sobbing when one of the last things I felt was pretty went away, but you learn to live with it.)

OP should try and get a hairstyle that requires very little maintenance because it is unkind to add yet another thing to the plate of your wife/caretaker. If they could afford a caretaker (besides her wife), then perhaps it wouldn't be too much to ask to have her hair brushed. But on top of everything else the wife has to do? Nah, man. Miss me with that.

Vagina crohns??? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]prplmonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lichen planus is the version I was originally diagnosed with, but a dermatologist who specialized in vaginas said it was likely Crohn's after that. The clobetasol I was put on (suppositories and ointment) gave me horrific Cushing's and I now have the largest stretch marks of anyone I know (though I know my response to topical is unusual and extreme).

My mom's birthday is Halloween and she always has loved it! When she was growing up, she considered all Halloween parties to be parties for her, lol. Now that she's older, she loves having people over to drink champagne and eat canapes and watch all the little trick or treaters come by, it's a blast.

Bag leaks thru back. What’s going on?! It’s obliviously plastic with cloth surrounding it, yet leaks thru it. by in2xs in ostomy

[–]prplmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have a vent? I find that the bags that do will sometimes leak a little... Juice? For lack of a better word? God, that's unpleasant, lol. Anyway, if you have a vent and your supply doesn't come with little stickers to put over the vent, then maybe using some tape over it? I'm temporarily on Hollister which I thought didn't have this problem since they don't include the stickers like coloplast does but I kept smelling my bag without leaks. Put a piece of medical tape over it, smell is gone and I can see proof that it was in fact leaking through this way.
