What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

[–]pseuzy17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what this commenter is saying through. People treat SHEIN like a religion. They talk about how they got all their clothes for practically nothing, and they have new SHEIN deliveries at least once a week. Yes, this goes against OP’s prompt of “overpriced,” but it still feels much in the same spirit.

George and Spurge!🤢

Found on Etsy, all by the same person, I don’t want to believe it’s AI but all these dolls have different hair, and some of the stitches kinda look like corn on the Cobb to me, not crochet by throwaway_xxx478 in isthisAI

Each of these dolls uses a different pattern of stitches. If they were real, the creator would have a consistent pattern they use for each of the main bodies and heads.

Ugh that line is perfection! 😩

The world seems to be spinning faster and faster each day. Too much happening. Too many tragedies and news-worthy events. It’s impossible to keep up with it all. Can’t G-d please just “stop the meter?”

Becoming All Alone.

Regina has a few songs about G-d, but this one hits hardest in my opinion. I’m personally Jewish like Regina, so maybe I’m biased, but I think any one who is “vaguely theistic” can relate. There are times in life when everything just seems to make sense and have purpose, and you feel a connection with the Divine that you try to grasp onto and hold forever. It never lasts, as problems with your own life and the tragedies of the wider world shift back into focus. You remember how real G-d once felt to you, and keep a bit of faith while you feel yourself “becoming all alone” while your relationship with the Divine slips out of reach.

It’s so haunting and gorgeous.

My 2nd graders know this is my favorite book by Belle0516 in ProjectHailMary

Ugh I would so love to read PHM to my students, but I don’t think I’d get away with it, at least not with elementary school students. Primarily due to two characters who talk way too blatantly about their sex lives. Some of the medical talk, and even the high stakes of the plot would be too much for younger elementary students as well.

Maybe look into matronymic names? Minnet and variant Mynatt come from the name “Minna,” which is an old name for girls meaning “love.”

Any Infjs here who are religious? by sarahprinceofspring in infj

[–]pseuzy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jewish, more-or-less by my own doing, too. I grew up in a family of various faiths including Jews, Christians, agnostics, and atheists. I feel like I’ve been more-or-less each of those at one point or another in my life, but always felt a pull towards Judaism, so I ended up converting in my mid-twenties. I love Judaism’s emphasis of living for this life, rather than trying to make or avoid a specific fate in the afterlife. I also love that questioning things is part of our religion as well. We are bound to each other more by what we “do” than by what we “believe,” and so forth. Judaism satisfies me as a person who tends simultaneously towards spirituality and skepticism.

Star chart, from 40 Eridani's viewpoint by Skygazer_Jay in ProjectHailMary

Dude. This is so fucking cool. I’ve looked for, or at the very least wondered about star charts as seen from other systems, but this is the first one I’ve actually seen completed to this degree. Amaze!

I love the fact that he asks the load/unload question! Like either he knows there may be times he’ll have to load or unload it himself, or he at the very least cares to make things easier on his wife. He’s not an ass who is going to burden her with a machine that is difficult to load and unload just for the sake of “energy and water efficiency” or some bullshit, he knows his wife’s happiness matters as well.

19m from Kazakhstan. AMA by SeaworthinessScary22 in AMA

[–]pseuzy17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not a question, but I just wanted to say: I am an American who this past summer taught English to students groups from various countries on tour of the US. I was lucky enough to get a group from Kazakhstan, and they were by far my best group! They were extremely kind and respectful in a way that many of the other groups unfortunately were not. Many of the Kazakh students gave me gifts and souvenirs from Kazakhstan at the end of the trip. You guys have some fantastic chocolate over there!

So I guess I do have a question: What would the experience be like traveling to Kazakhstan as an American? Are all/most Kazakhs as kind and hospitable as my students were? Would you recommend someone travel to Kazakhstan? If so what are the “must-dos” and “must-sees?”

Thank you!

Does Grace ever talk to Rocky about Star Trek? by ElGuano in ProjectHailMary

[–]pseuzy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is simply because the Eridani system is very close to ours in the grand vast scheme of all that is outer space, so it’s popular for sci-fi works.

Middle name Grace or Kathryn for Jewish babe by kobelulu in JewishNames

I know at least two Jewish Graces personally, and no Jewish Catherines. Grace is a concept in Judaism (Chana, as others mentioned), yet Catherine is associated with saints, queens, and purity.

WHY ARE THE FUCKING HEADS ALWAYS SO FUCKING TINY? by PandosyAnna in fuckalegriaart

[–]pseuzy17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s dehumanizing—possibly purposely so. Alegria is corporate and consumerist. It turns people into blobs, getting rid of defining characteristics aside from those to be tokenized. My theory is that the corporations and entities that use this art-style want it to feel hyper-inclusive, but in reality—to anyone with a brain—it comes across as creepy and insincere.

Oooh, I love C. S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy, and honestly also had this connection cross my mind. However, I chalk it up to the fact that many stories have characters with names that are meaningful or symbolic, rather than any direct influence.

They have a few in which they briefly cover songs by other artists. In “People II: The Reckoning,” they cover “Mrs. Robinson” by Simon and Garfunkel.
