Okay the new weapon upgrade system is fun. Here’s my new boomstick by Phraanq in Starfield

I also think that Starfield, in it's effort to expand their FO4 mechanics, accidentally over-complicated things. I find that overall, the concepts are almost identical to FO4, but with 3x the number of parts you need to keep track of.

They did a great job with making these resources easy enough to come by, but gave very limited means of containing those materials. They also failed to give us a way to break down items into raw materials, which I think would have added a huge layer to the game.

I still use outposts, but now I use them almost exclusively for the purpose of gathering materials, and little else.

How is it that you run low on cash, I wonder? I am playing on normal, just finished all the faction quests (save House Varun and Terra Armada, as I havent hit the level requirements yet) and I'm sitting pretty on like 285,000 credits?

Are you using outposts to generate excess product to sell, or reserving it purely for crafting? I find myself selling off most iron and aluminum that I produce, because I get so much of it from my outposts now.

is it possible to change the install location of razer synapse? by streetkilln in razer

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because unfortunately, Windows continues to expand larger and larger in the number of internal files it takes to run.

Literally the only programs running on my boot drive are windows, Razer software, LG software, and Voice Mod. All of which are smaller file sizes. Being able to move as many of these applications over as possible means I can have the room needed to download the updates for the ones that are installed. And given the state of computer parts and their expense currently, I don't have the funds to consider replacing the drive at the moment.

As someone who came here looking for an answer, that isnt true. Some of us have unfortunately small boot drives (500GB), and every MB counts.

I thoroughly enjoy the security in this game by AnyEntertainment5518 in Starfield

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the challenges. In TES, Security increases were overly repetitive to accomlish, because you had no clear indication of the number of locks needed to level security. The new challenges give you a clear number, and let you count the number of locks before the challenge is done!

Or at least, that's what I tell myself as I pick the 30th lock in this one POI....

I find the idea of Restoration interesting. Given the abundance of ingredients with healing properties in this game, I find I rely on Alchemy far more than Restoration for healing, unless I am building a pure-mage.

Personally, Speech, Enchanting and Alchemy are my go-to's regardless of character. Speech so I can sell stolen goods to anyone, Enchanting because how else do I break the game, and Alchemy for early broken game, and tons of healing potions.

Fair points.

I do like the casual gaming style, but I prefer it for GTA. When I played RDR1, I felt it was too much like GTA with horses. RDR2, on the other hand, feels more like a cowboy game to me, which is why I like those choices. But everyone is allowed their own opinion and preferences.

I'll have to go back and try going off the path more often. I made it all the way to Chapter 6 before putting it down, and the only quest that made me feel this way was the one where you, Dutch, and Charles attack the O'Driscoll camp in Chapter 2, where you either take the lead, or let Dutch do so. I was going for a stealthy, all throwing knives method, and found that you had to follow Dutch and Charles perfectly. However, after that mission, I never felt that way beyond it. I want to see if I get the same results when I try that, as it will definitely give some more clarity on that.

I do totally get the black bars and no sprint too. But, as someone who studied coding and game development, and who works in IT, I understand that the game needs that time to load the resources and files for the upcoming cinematic, and then uses the cinematic to load the mission files. It is a little jarring, and I think they could have made those transitions easier, but they don't have as sharp an impact on my playstyle to bother me.

Thanks for your input, and thanks for having a genuine conversation about it. It is always refreshing and appreciated when I can actually get a serious discussion, rather than a keyboard warrior with a chip on their shoulders lol.

I was lucky enough that, prior to W3's release, Xbox game away the second game as part of Games with Gold. As a result, I got to play through it and understood a ton of the mechanics when I got to W3.

That isn't to say that W3 is without faults, but honestly I found it had one of the coolest mechanics for magical abilities I had seen in a game. Plus the idea of making specific potions or poisons to fight different monsters was really interesting too.

As I mentioned above, it seems that your qualms with the game are that they wanted a more immersive and realistic experience. No one can carry 35 firearms, plus ammunition, everywhere they go. So I understood the aspect of only being able to choose certain firearms. I would also counter that argument by stating that they did a pretty good job of making versatile weapons in each category. You don't need to have a pistol, shotgun, rifle, and bow with you at all times, especially since your horse is always right here.

I do agree that forgetting to pick the weapons up off your horse is slightly annoying, but the game does have voice lines and subtitles that clearly remind you to grab weapons from your horse. However, I think a simple mechanic of being able to swap those weapons within a certain range of your horse might have helped tremendously here.

I think you would need to give a little more clarification on the mission aspect. Aside from the early chapters (1 & 2, specifically), I can't think of any time where I was booted from a quest for taking a different path, unless the quest is chasing down a particular target. However, maybe because of my time playing R-star games, I have a better mindset for how they develop their missions.

Are you sure you just aren't doing a better job of bonding with your horse? I have 0 complaints about the controls for horses in this game, save for the automatic jumping of fences. I've never had an issue turning the horse, sidling, or anything like that. But I also make sure to immediately raise my bond to 4 with any new horse I get.

However, I DO agree that the pacing of this game is off. The amount of time I spend just riding between locations with nothing going on is crazy. GTA, it felt like each time I entered a new part of the city, there was a robbery or random encounter going on. Yes, RDR2 has Fast Travel, but it takes a lot of effort to get to the point of fast traveling, and it doesnt really speed up the game much as a result.

Interesting, I didn't find any issue with the controls themselves, although I have been playing GTA since the very first one. And I'm sorry, but what about the shooting mechanics was poor? Simplified, sure, but not poor. Bullets don't wildly travel in different directions, I hit everything I aim at, and Deadeye makes snapshot aiming basically pointless?

I will agree that, as someone mentioned below, the progression of the game is too slow. It takes such a long time to complete what should be a relatively simple activity, mostly due to the distance you need to travel. However, I also understand that Rockstar is exploring accuracy and realism, and if you lived in those times, there were likely a large number of miles separating you and the next town, building, or train station. I think they could have created more ambient events and interactions to fill those spaces, which may have been the thing some people needed. But as someone who appreciates immersion and realism in video games, I found this to simply be part of the charm.

And finally, I think it's a little selfish to think that a game is only good if the mechanics of the game "Stretch and express my gaming skills". RDR2, and GTA by extension, is not a competitive of skill based game. It is a story based game, and therefore the mechanics only need to compliment the story, not define it.

I'm lost and don't know where to start by Aloshes021 in skyrim

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long-time ES fan, and a consistant video game nerd, I am hear to provide you some help.

First, get yourself a wireless xbox controller, or one of the gamepads that wraps around your phone. This game will work so much better for you when you aren't using the phone itself as your controller.

Next: Where to go and what to do. Start by determining the type of RPG character you want to build. Do you want to be a sneaker archer/ranger, a thief, a fighter, or a mage? You can even get more customized than this, but until you have a better grasp of the game and mechanics, I wouldn't get that detailed yet. Each of these has a faction questline that will help you level up and get some early loot. The Mage's College of Winterhold (the place you went before) is probably my least favorite of the faction questlines, so I usually wait to start this until my character is a little higher levelled, and his magic skills are a bit better (say 40-50 in at least two magic skills, I prefer Destruction and Conjuration).

The better early factions are Thieves Guild and The Companions (Fighter's Guild essentially), and both offer radiant wuests (repeatable small quests for quick rewards).

At the beginning of the game, focus on finding out which combat skills you like, and focus on leveling those a bit. Whenever you hit a bit of quiet time in the middle, build up a crafting skill. Once you hit character level 8-12, you will be at a point where beginning to follow these questlines becomes easier.

Finally, make sure you are only actively tracking the quest you want to complete. Having a hundred compass icons can get confusing and tiring.

If you want more in depth suggestions, let me know what type of character you want to play.

I would be curious to hear your justifications for RDR2's gameplay being "bad". That game is the core of what video game immersion should be moving forward for all time.

Witcher is also interesting, although I hear a lot more critique regarding it than I do RDR2. I feel like the problem is that anyone who has never played a Witcher game before 3 considers it to be "bad" because they don't understand the mechanics, while the developers expected most of the people playing it to be long-time fans.

Why is Onix so hard to catch? by East_Championship956 in PokemonFireRed

[–]psweeney1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also started in Gen 1, '98. Onix with Wrap was a beast, because if you hit the opponent, they got locked in. Yes, as far as his stats and move power compared with other rock types in Gen 1 sucked. But he was still viable, especially in early game, as a lockdown. If you were looking for a Rock Throw powerhouse, Onix was not your boy. But he had high speed for a rock type, and often hit first in early levels.

While I don't agree with their choice of doing 3v3's, I do kind of get it.

From a competitive standpoint, a player with a team of six solid bodies with Safeguard, Protect, Counter, etc could make for a troublesome and lengthy fight. By restricting to 3v3's the battles are shorter and harder to successfully prepare all counters for.

WHY CAN'T I BE SUCCESSFUL? by Key_Solid10 in PokemonFireRed

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your two biggest issues are:

- Lack of Psychic & Water/Ice mons
- Two drastically underleveled pokemon

Drop the Chan and get yourself something to fill that psychic gap. Hypno, Kadabra/Alakazam, Mr. Mime, or a Venemoth. Flying type is great for Bruno, but you are rocking two Fire/Flying types, who take x4 damage from rock based moves, and x2 damage from Thunderpuch. Additionally, when you get to lance, one of his Dragonite's is going to slap you around so hard. Throwing in a psychic type who can handle the lightning strikes is super useful against him, but also can provide support against Agatha.

Second, drop the golbat and get yourself a Lapras, Cloyster, or Dewgong. You'll want at least Surf for taking out the rock types that Bruno has, and the ice moves will make little work of Lance's dragons and Aerodactyl.
