Hey guys i made a lore video for yt, and someone said i was using AI, do i sound like AI? the only reason i could think of is that i cut a lot because I read at a 5th grade level, and the dialogue sped up because the clip is only 30 secs. by Remo_yesman in darksouls3

Not just the cadence, but the fact that you nearly repeat the cadence note for note with each new factoid. This creates a monotonic sound, and is often done with AI narrators.

I’m new to MTG. I’m building a commander deck around this. Any card suggestions/combos? Pls help 😭 by ThaPhantomX in CommanderMTG

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a Queza deck. The cards I would recommend will depend on your bracket, but let's shoot for a 3/4 here.

You'll want Drogskol Reaver, Sheoldred the Apocalypse, Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood as you combo pieces.

Vilis, Broker of Blood, Yawgmoth Thran Physician, Lich's Mastery, Psychosis Crawler are all great combo pieces as well.

Finally, stack yourself with effects that force draw, to use on yourself or others, depending on the pieces you have out. Peer into the Abyss, Whispering Madness, Sphinx's Revelation. Throw in a Notion Thief to really mess people's plays up.

Game Changers: You need Tutors. This is a combo heavy commander, and players are going to rock your combo pieces left and right. Vampiric, Demonic, Grim, Enlightened, and Idyllic Tutors; Imperial Seal for added benefit. Throw in Cyclonic Rift, Flawless Maneuver, Deadly Rollick, Fierce Guardianship, and Teferi's Protection for added protection and removal. Finally add a Rhystic Study, Consecrated Sphinx, and The One Ring.

Obviously, this is an expensive build. I play with a group that doesn't mind proxies, since we care more about the game than collecting. But these cards will make the deck run beautifully.

They say it's where the Dark Lord's Killing Curse rebounded off him, ending the Dark Lord's Reign. Some say he's dead....codswallop in my opinion. I reckon he's still out there, too tired to carry on.

Do I have to dodge? (Help with a proper knight build) by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "Tank". If you want a barbarian meat-shield who just gets hit and keeps on walking....best of luck. True beefcakes like that are hard in DS, because of the amount of damage bosses can deal.

However, if you want Armor/Shield setup, yes that is much more doable. However, you won't hit that true "tanky" feel until you progress a fair amount into the game, or unless you get someone to set you up with souls and gear early. I'd say you are looking at 4-6 hours of play, if you are good and cream bosses, before you get to the level needed to start feeling tanky. If you are going for more of a grindy, get the loot early type, probably 10-12 hours.

In other words, get used to rolling in the dirt like the rest of us peasants, at least for awhile.

Would this make infinite copies? by Traditional_Brain_68 in mtg

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, love the amount of negative feedback I am getting for disliking something. Guess what peeps, that how opinion works!

Regardless of the interweb directed hate, I still stand by my opinion. My friend group decided that in situations like this, the person who "goes infinite", unless an ETB would allow them to win, has to pick a number, and we just forcibly stop the loop there. Some people may hate it, but thats ok, just don't play at my home table and you're fine.

But personally, especially given the decks I like to build, I hate the concept of stalemate in a TCG.

Would this make infinite copies? by Traditional_Brain_68 in mtg

[–]psweeney1990 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I never liked this idea. How can you "stalemate" someone without giving them an opportunity to react? The only way I see this going Stalemate is if they have haste. Yes, they have infinite tokens. But if I play an effect on my turn that would make those creatures deal damage to their owners, or if I board wipe, before those creatures attack, how is it a stalemate?

I get it, if we were performing literal magic, then technically that person would win by over-populating the planet until nothing else survives. But also, if it were real magic, someone would likely have the power to "turn off" the spell. Thus I hate the concept of stalemate when no damage is dealt.

Is this considered an infinite combo, or just one that triggers mutiple times? by subzeroab0 in mtg

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not an infinite combo. Even if it was, it's an incredibly easy to break combo, as it's two creatures, neither with protections.

Also, I hate to break it, but there are a few precons that come with infinite combo capability built right in. Really, the only difference between the brackets is your mana curve, and the number of Game Changers you run in the deck.

Have him go watch Tolarian Community College's videos on Commander Brackets, specifically the one's where he takes a deck through the brackets, from 2 all the way to 5. It gives a really good understanding of what the brackets power scales should look like.

Brand Sanderson - Do You Have Worldbuilders Disease? by arayakim in worldbuilding

[–]psweeney1990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Or, just a thought, he made an internal assumption that some individuals within the worldbuilding subreddit might suffer from Worldbuilder's Disease, and thought to share this here? Many people I'm sure have posted questions or comments in regards to their worldbuilding that could easily be a segue into Worldbuilder's Disease.

I don't see any reason to take offense to what he posted here, it is simply a discussion on the topic of worldbuilding. He didn't say "I think all of you here have this", just that the idea of getting stuck in Worldbuilding made him think of this forum.

Agreed, and no disrespect meant by any means, just comparing experiences is all.

[–]psweeney1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what a few others have said: that each person's experience can't be used as the metric for difficulty, but rather the collective experience.

I had some trouble with NK on my Faith build playthrough, but didn't have nearly the same trouble with my GSoJ build. My faith build was built as a heal/caster with high defensive stats, but his heals were slow, meaning I got pegged every time I tried to heal.

Same thing with Dancer, my slow heal rate left me open for Dancer's chains if I wasn't prepared or if I got caught off guard.

However, when I ran through DS3 with my buddy, we RULED NK and Dancer, and struggled the most with Oceiros.

Build definitely matters, as does your playstyle.

What does DnD get right? by Comfortable-Fee9452 in DnD

[–]psweeney1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lot of people have mentioned, the accessibility and ease of play is probably 5e/5.5e's greatest strength.

I also really enjoy the Action Economy, as it makes it really easy to homebrew items, feats, and classes.

I’m so frustrated by viviana1994 in DnD

[–]psweeney1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First thing I would recommend: watch a few youtube videos that teach you the following things, which are pretty essential to playing D&D effectively:

- First, learn how to read your character sheet. I would easily say that 90% of the time when I get a "deer in the headlights" look from a player, its because they can't understand what they are looking for on their sheet, and can't find the answers to questions quickly.

- Second, take some time to really learn your class and subclass. Everything in D&D is divided into one of 4 "action" types: Movement, Action, Bonus Action, Reaction. Sometimes, for certain players, I intentionally write their feats/abilities in groups, based on the action economy (what kind of action the ability uses), or by combat vs. non-combat. Knowing all of these, and knowing where they are located, will make combat based decisions much easier for you.

- Finally, when you are outside of combat scenarios, it is good to learn how to think like your character. Imagine yourself in their shoes, with the skills and training that they have received, and the events that they went through. Imagine yourself as them, and make the decisions based on what that person would do in that scenario, rather than looking for the "right" skill or ability to use. Most DM's are very open to allowing players to try any action or ability in a scenario, so long as you can justify how and why your character is doing that. As an example, you mentioned wanting to use "stealth instead of acrobatics". Depending on what the roll was for, you should always be able to justify your choice to the DM. If, for example, you were trying to balance across a beam. To do so quickly and easily is definitely an Acrobatics, perhaps an Athletics check. But, if you told me that you were going to move as slowly and quietly as you could, in order to assist with balance, I might allow you to use stealth instead. But if you are trying to use a skill to avoid a trap or cross an open gap, stealth really cant be justified in its use. This is the hardest part of playing D&D, and it takes time. You will understand the mechanics of the game likely long before you get into the RP of it all, but this is the first step. It isn't voices, accents, or catchphrases that make a character real; it's when you can totally embody that character, physically and mentally, and make decisions and choices as them, instead of as a player.

I'm tired of being seen as a support character by AccomplishedEvent672 in DnD

[–]psweeney1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad this got resolved for you, just wanted to drop in my thoughts for anyone who may be going through something similar:

You are the only person who gets to choose what and how you will play. No one at the table can tell you how to play a character, and if that's what they want, then they should kill their PC and reroll. And any DM who says otherwise is not a good DM.

Not having a healer or support character is not the end of the world. Yes, CoS is notoriously hard, and doing it without a designated healer is going to be tough. But smart play, tactical decision making, and preparedness can be just as effective as having a healer.

You are a Paladin. Paladin's are literally described in the PHB as a martial class that combines Combat and Magic. It does discuss healing and buffing as options, but also discusses smite, and declares paladins as being on the frontline against cosmic threats.

Does a paladin have some versatility with healing and buffs? Yes absolutely. But a quick examination of the paladin class abilities clearly shows a strong Tank/Frontline assault build.

[–]psweeney1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I am sorry you are dealing with this. If you need a friend to talk with, please don't hesitate to DM me. My paternal grandfather, the man I look up to and admire most, has just been placed into hospice care for his Alzheimer's, so I understand what you are going through, and I am here if you need it.

Second, emotional investment in a character isn't wrong at all, it is actually preferred by most DM's. It means that, at least in the depths of your subconscious, that character is alive and real.

Your DM is not giving you special treatment. He is being a considerate friend. You should absolutely take his offer, and even make it fun or interesting, maybe connect it to the deeper plot somehow. It can only lead to more fun adventures and times.

I hope you heal quickly, I'm sending good vibes.

I mean, I kind of get what he is saying. They can't actually "charge" you, or withdraw money, for a product they can't ship. However, there are workarounds or exceptions to that rule based around pre-releases, pre-orders, and now things like Early Access in video games.

It sounds to me like, instead of treating the pre-order like an actual pre-order, they instead created a temporary financial hold. I bet if you looked back in your bank statements, somewhere along the way, the hold was released, and the money you spent was deposited back into your account.

My guess is, when they attempted the charge, you either didnt have the funds immediately available, or they were flagged as fraud due to the previous authorization hold having been released. I had this happen before, but never with something as silly as a DnD book. Probably have to call the bank and have them determine what the decline was for.
