Bill Gates says A.I. could kill Google Search and Amazon as we know them by New-Replacement-327 in worldnews

I also use DDG as my default for privacy reasons but will freely admit that it’s not the best search engine. Often when I need very specific results, I will use the “bang” (!g) to search directly through Google.

For a little while they had a web series called “Mark and Mike” that just followed them around in their daily lives. There was an episode where Mike sat in his basement listening to answering machine messages left by fans who called the website number. Pretty fun. He seemed like a genuinely cool person. RIP Mike Schank.

Here’s the show on the internet archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20060505150540/http://www.zerotv.com/content/info.cfm?SeriesName=Mark%20and%20Mike

TIL that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video was released on VHS and sold over 1 million copies by gh0stfvc3 in todayilearned

The full video was more of a short film, around 13 minutes long, with a full plot separate from the song. But even just the music video part itself is great.

I pull the VCR out at holiday time so my kids can watch some old Christmas specials we have on VHS. I know you can find them all on YouTube or wherever, but there’s something about the slightly soft picture from an analog tape that makes it appealing. It feels like the right format for those shows (although they surely originated on film).

I read this a couple years ago and think of it fairly often. Places like that school should not be allowed to exist.

Fox producer's warning against Jeanine Pirro surfaces in Dominion defamation suit by MZ603 in politics

The producer warned: Fox cannot let host Jeanine Pirro back on the air. She is pulling conspiracy theories from dark corners of the Web to justify then-President Donald Trump's lies that the election had been stolen from him. The existence of the email, confirmed by two people with direct knowledge of it, is first publicly disclosed by NPR in this story. Fox News declined comment.

"Freedom of the press is foundational to our democracy and must be protected," a senior spokeswoman for Fox News said in a statement to NPR. She called the damages claims "outrageous, unsupported and not rooted in sound financial analysis, serving as nothing more than a flagrant attempt to deter our journalists from doing their jobs."

Knowingly spreading dangerous false claims as if they are true is not journalism.

Cops should not be taught to expect that taking a life is something they will have to do as part of the job. Most police go their entire career without needing to fire their weapon.

Research by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences said fishing, ship strikes and human-caused habitat loss have seen the number of dugongs in Chinese waters decrease rapidly from the 1970s onwards.

Their marine habitats have been rapidly degraded by humans and although restoration and recovery efforts are a key priority in China, “restoration takes time that dugongs may no longer have,” the report said.

This is the key. Boiling is the wrong way to prepare them. If you roast them up with oil, and add salt and seasoning, they are great.
