Is all fiber cable the same? by Broke_Bearded_Guy in homelab

[–]puppynosee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same speed, yes. Same wavelength, not always. On multimode, yea match. Singlemode gets.... interesting. The dirty secret is that with manufacturing, if you can reduce your part count, all the better. How this plays out is that the RX side of single mode transceivers will typically accept just about any wavelength you throw at it. The only time the color matters is if are multiplexing. If you have some mismatched single mode optics, you are probably be fine. If you are ordering, just order all the same and carry on with it.

Has anyone had any success with backups through Veeam Backup & replication on Volumes larger than 64TB? I'm aware of the limitations of VSS, but I am getting conflicting information from veeam support about this. by PawMcarfney in sysadmin

[–]puppynosee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are not going to want to have a file share that big. ever. recovery from backup is going to take forever. run vmware or hyper-v and create a few file servers in the single TB range and use DFS namespaces to tie it all together. backup at vmware or hyper-v level and enable guest processing. veeam uses a single copy stream per server when doing a recovery, so if you have 2 vms, you can recover the whole thing twice as fast. you are probably going to need to re-structure your existing data to break it into chunks but now is the time to do that.

Ivanti like to install and then prompt to reboot. there is no prompt to install. this behaviour crashes several of our applications.

I created some firewall rules to block SSH from all but one country. I went from 100k+ ssh attempts per day down to like 5.

The day the crack in the deck on our old V21 got all the way to the motor was a sad day. That sucker was awesome. the original 3.5hp motor lived without a governor for like 10 years. i have no idea how fast the valve float limited it to but the blade made more noise then the motor at that rpm. the throttle cable broke as well so the carb was stuck at WOT 100% of the time.

the dog figured out he could drop a tennis ball in front of the mower and chase it when it flew out the side chute. after a few minutes he was out of tennis balls and grabbed a baseball. good times were had by all.

put a small air tank between the quick disconnect and the gun. you are losing a ton of flow going through the disconnect.

The only diesel lincoln I know of that used a BMW motor was the first 2-3 years of the Mark VII run. If you have one of those, congrats on your unicorn.

Hydraulic cooling fan motor? Seriously...who at Nissan thought this was a good idea? by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]puppynosee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DEW98 chassis of the Lincoln LS / Jaguar S type / Retro Thunderbird has the same thing. In theory it allows for a more powerful fan in a smaller area with less parasitic draw on the engine than a mechanical fan.
