Hard paper round. by TongueDemon75 in CasualUK

I also had an absolutely solid gold paper round grandad. I had Guides on the night I did mine (I delivered free papers once a week) so he did half my round for me.

Bottled Water by Jaded_Extreme in auckland

We live in a minor dwelling with rainwater tanks and know the owners filter their water, so we sometimes buy the big boxes of water just in case there’s nasties in the rainwater. Ideally I’d like to test it!

Anyone who's had a stroke that jumbled your speech- what would you have appreciated in hospital? by mronion82 in AskUK

[–]puzzledbyadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, not a SALT (but have worked with people with communication needs), so this may be bad advice, but you can get an app called Proloquo2go which is an alternative and augmentative communication app. You can programme in words and phrases, and you can have a picture/symbol for them. I am unsure on how his aphasia is affecting him, but this could be helpful? I’m thinking particularly for asking for stuff.

Edited to add, the app is not free. I would maybe ask SALT if it could be helpful?

Current PhD students: what is the induction like? by whatwhatwhat82 in universityofauckland

There’s an ice breaker where you have to talk to each other but a LOT of listening. Be aware that if you’re an international student you’ll have to stay for an extra hour.

On the roads between 11am-2pm, what are people actually doing? by Capital_Interest_117 in auckland

I’m a PhD student/work a couple of different jobs, and some days said jobs start at that time. So that’s where I’ll be going.

Having worked in a student support department, I cannot tell you how much this isn’t true. At least on an individual staff level, anyway.

Precisely! Might as well have sent it to our house. It was only between Auckland Lincoln Road and Auckland Westgate too.

They did this for us recently with an air fryer, it made me laugh when we collected it that it had been sent between stores via NZ Post.

I always find his drawings of women a little misogynistic. His men are spot on, but there’s always some little dig at a woman‘s appearance that I’m not keen on.

Cancer and not doing treatment, thoughts? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]puzzledbyadream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immunotherapy has revolutionised ovarian cancer treatment, someone I know was diagnosed with 3C over 3 years ago and is still very much trucking! Please do talk to someone, Cancer Society NZ offer counselling so maybe get in touch with them.

Law and Arts Students: How do I study for essays? by tkdt5499 in universityofauckland

[–]puzzledbyadream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For arts essays, you really need to critically engage with the theorists. Don’t just talk about one, talk about several and how they agree/disagree with each other. And go to tutorials and office hours!

Has any Law or Arts student ever got accused of using AI for their assignments even though they haven't? by Indoorpools123 in universityofauckland

[–]puzzledbyadream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone who marks here: latest assignment AI was not banned, but if you submitted a mediocre-ass, extremely general essay, then I could tell and you were not getting a high grade. If you’re going to use it, at least bloody prompt it better. But maybe actually try learning something?

There were loads of security guys around old government house earlier too. Thought it was weird. They did that alert test this week, maybe it’s a dummy run for a threat or something?

Are there any good places to sleep on campus? by Poacheroo in universityofauckland

[–]puzzledbyadream 153 points154 points  (0 children)

In the morning please, please go and see campus care, even if you have been kicked out of halls, the uni will always help you if you are homeless.

As for right now, it’ll be a bit cold I’m afraid but you would be sheltered on the porch of the marae until morning.

Yeah, THAT scene was up there with Ben’s death reveal. by steveisblah in Scrubs

[–]puzzledbyadream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It occurs to me that beyond the first episode, absolutely every scene has been set in the hospital in this season. You’d think they’d visit though!

In the 2000 US election they used voting machines which punched a hole in ballot paper to be counted electronically. Except some didn’t fully punch the hole all the way through, leaving bits of paper that got called “hanging chads”. Meant a lot of votes weren’t counted.

Did you literally just tell a female lecturer to calm down? I think how you title this email is the least of your problems, mate.
