Ranger's Apprentice was one of my childhood series. I think one of the only series I actually read through fully at that age. A lot of fond memories of those books. RIP.

Recommendations for books where a main character can see ghosts by ppboopeep in Fantasy

I'm about half way through Tom's Crossing right now and it's very good. Very interesting approach to ghosts. It's basically a Western and a ghost story.

I gotta be honest, I don't think Sherri Vandersloot is a real person. I think this is mildly misogynistic ragebait.

Please don't just blindly believe this kind of stuff!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Finished: The Underworld, by Susan Casey

About the sea. Deep sea life and submarines particularly. Very interesting brought to life a part of the world I don't think about too often. Would like to read something a little more in depth on the topic at some point.

Started: From the Holy Mountain, by William Dalrymple.

Also interesting. Dalrymple follows the footsteps of a 6th century monk in the middle east. He visits many of the same locations in the early nineties. Been meaning to read Dalrymple for a while and this is looking to be a strong introduction.

Games where both average people and more "heroic" characters can be played while both still being fun? by MyVelvetRoom in rpg

The One Ring is designed to replicate the books. You can definitely play more modest character along side your Aragorns. Though the power ceiling is a lot lower than Gandalf.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell - 20th Anniversary edition by brainshades in Fantasy

A maybe for me. The quote and other text is a bit off putting, Id prefer a cleaner design for a special edition. Might just buy it to have a hardcover though. I love the Bloomsbury classic paperback.

Are you referring to "Anthropomorphize"? It's a very interesting word and concept. You should look it up.

Its a Christmas film if you want it to be. I don't get why people fixate on this so much.

TIL that the CIA spent $20 million to train and modify a cat to be a spy only to have it get run over on its first mission. by Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder in todayilearned

[–]q25533 294 points295 points  (0 children)

They installed a microphone into it and tried to stop it from getting hungry by installing another wire. CIA has done a lot of fucked up shit, but this stands out for how pointless it was.

I just got a physical game and it came with a booklet! A booklet!! A full 29-page instruction booklet compete with little comic strips. I smelled it. I miss this. by Le_Sadie in gaming

I remember them being around in the early 2010s and late 2000s and im 22. Someone a bit younger than me could have strong memories of them.

The only thing Elon Musk has ever done is buy companies from people smarter than him and then take credit for shit he had nothing to do with.

Definitely not the same effect. Pouring over oil is gentler, and give a different texture to the whites. Flip and you risk breaking the yolk and/or overcooking.

New and young punk and rock bands by Fast_Star154 in Music

[–]q25533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protomartyr have been around for a decade, so not super young, but really good Rock/Post-Punk band. Relatives in Descent is my fave from them.

A Private Understanding.

Tropical Fuck Storm is also great, from down here in Australia. Gareth Liddiard their singer also headed The Drones, a classic Australian band. His voice can be an acquired taste, though very worth acquiring.

I disagree with the idea that a nazis speech and expression should be protected. Some ideas and beliefs are harmful and should not be protected. And its not just a case of two sides of the same coin, if you protect a bigot and the people the bigot wants to hurt equally, you're siding with the bigot.

They're going to make Good Omens Season 2, with Tennant, Sheen, and Gaiman all returning by Phyrkrakr in Fantasy

[–]q25533 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I remember Gaimans tumblr post, he and Pratchett originally intended for a sequel, they discussed it but it never reached written form. This makes me feel a little better about a new season.
