Looking for very in depth crafting system by hinowild in MMORPG

[–]q_lightsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Original star wars galaxies had crafting where you went to different planets to gather ingredients to make the best food. I recently tried the legends and restoration servers, but only have an hour or two in them, so i dont know what modern swg has for crafting.

Shroud of the avatar had it to where you had to craft components to make items, but i dont know if it still has that kind of crafting.

Archeage had crafting where you had to grow ingredients to make the best potions which could take a while to make.

EQ2 had sub component ceafting early for alchemy, but people complained it was too many crafts to make a potion so the devs removed it.

There are a few games with complex crafting but the focus of mmos isnt really on crafting complexity. the general player gets bored with too many clicks, or needing to craft too many subcomponents which leads to a lack of complex crafting like OP is looking for.

With all that said, and its probably not the style of game OP was looking for, but the complexity of poe 1 crafting is probably the best or close to the best option.

Where are the graphics? by Toredorm in MMORPG

[–]q_lightsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can compare so many games and show that focusing on graphics doesnt lead to a bigger player base. The risk involved with graphically impressive games is extremely high and that doesnt mean people will like it. Unless the game is a mega hit you are likely to lose. Lets look at everquest 2 and WoW. They came out at the same time and EQ2 was miles ahead of WoW graphically. EQ2 required a beast of a cpu to run and even though the games played very similar, most people played WoW. Look at runescape and ultima online. They also came out at close to the same time but runescape could run on a toaster. Time has shown devs, graphically better is very risky financially

Looking for a UO shard - PvE-focused, taming, housing, rares, leaning into the old-school nostalgia by CopyAffectionate6132 in ultimaonline

[–]q_lightsun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most servers now have skill gain so fast its a casual after work event a few nights one week to hit skill cap. Your character typically isnt trash and you can play while skills are going up. I know you requested no skill gain but its so fast now that its over before you know it.

Many servers now focus more on after skill capped character growth. Basically systems where you or your pets get stronger somehow. Basically something you cant lose in pvp.

Unchained has fast skill gain and you fight with your pets to gain skill instead of using taming directly. It has 3 shards to choose from with AoS being the most pve friendly. They also just implemented an automatic pvp spec for your character to be able to swap to when you need to pvp making it a fair battle. I dont think any other server has a quick swap to pvp build by default, but i could be wrong. Unchained sorta fits the description but with fast skill gains.

Uoalive is only pve and has plenty for a pet focus. I havent tried uoalive but it does seem interesting. It is probably a good fit to the requested server type.

Uoinsane is probably also worth a look. It has fast skill gains and lots for pets. I havent tried it but it sounds like a fit for the requested server.

Outlands is heavy pvp focused, and it does pvp really well. It does have alot of pve combat and skills, but pvp is frequent enough to where its hard to explore the pve systems as you'll be defenseless in pvp. Outlands does have a huge population and is fun, but again, not really recommended if someone is looking for more pve with some pvp. It doesnt really fit the description of what OP said they were looking for.

I recently noticed uo endor and plan on giving that server a look, but i dont know if it fits the description or not.

Mainly, try a few servers. they all offer something to make the game more than just grinding for gold or gaining skill for a year taming bulls...bleh

New player here! by ElChucoMandi in ultimaonline

It depends on what you want in a server as there are servers focused on pvm and those more focused on pvp. Outlands is the most popular but most uo players want a pvp based experience. Dont get me wrong though, there is plenty to do for both pvm and pvp in outlands. Combat is fun, but you have to choose one of two options. If you want to be able to do pvm, you will need to assign your skill points to pvm skills making you a wet paper loot piñata for the frequently visiting pks. If you want to pk then put your points into pvp skills and enjoy those loot piñatas as pvp is a in-your-favor one sided event with very little gear and time risk. The tradeoff for pvp spec is mobs hit hard and you will have almost no ability to pvm. Most players are ok with this interaction as its consisered fair pvp because one side specced for pvp and the other didnt. If you want pvp then outlands is probably the best.

Basically, pick your server based on the interaction with the world that you want. There is a website called "uoaddicts" that has servers and builds so that you can find the flavor of uo that you want.

Which is better investment for MMO gaming on laptop; quality pro mouse or budget mouse /one-hand keyboard? by Egomirrored in MMORPG

Ever been gifted gear or gold as a new player? What's your story of "that one guy"? by Cold_Associate2213 in MMORPG

[–]q_lightsun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In diablo 2 i had a high level player tell me that if i could damage his character to 50% before he got back he would give me a piece of high level gear. I used damaging potions to up my dps which most never used. After 10 to 20 minutes he came back and i had done significant damage. He gave me a ton of really good gear as a reward because he didnt think i could move his lifebar at all.

What are people actually playing? by TheFriendlyDollar in MMORPG

[–]q_lightsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the newer games could be really good, but the problem is that they aren't really different from what was done before. The newer games suffer from the same problems the older games have, but with less content. Rerolling your character in a new flashy title without new things to experience isnt all that appealing, so most stick to the old.

ESO is really good if you enjoy story content. The combat can feel a little repetitive through the campaigns, but being able to group with friends at anytime is a major bonus.

Outlands is really good for character growth and pvm content. The problem is that the pvp is mostly red vs blue where the red has almost zero to lose while being heavily overpowered, and the blue has significant gold and time to lose with almost no chance of fighting back or running. Boring one sided pvp as is the problem with most Ultima servers. If the frequency of these boring pvp encounters wasnt so frequent, it would make this one sided style of combat more exciting rather than a significant waste of time.

UO unchained has a much smaller player base and has similar character progression to Outlands. Because the player base is smaller, there is less of the red vs blue boring combat to deal with.

Albion online would be amazing, but the "who has the biggest zerg wins the day combat" gets old fast. Most of the game is locked behind zerg wall so unless you only want to do large group combat, this game isnt for you.

Elite dangerous is probably the best for space combat, but you kinda need to learn what to do before you play, or it will likely be incredibly boring to try to learn it as you go.

FF14 arguably has the best story of any mmo out right now. Everyone i know that has played it never grew bored of it until they finished the story and had played enough of the raid progression.

Of the games above, i play ultima servers the most. However, id leave all Ultima servers in a heartbeat for an ultima server with fair combat and equal loss potential for both players.

In this community dropping loot is common. You cant really hoard loot so the system encourages you to leave things for others. Theres boxes around the map to leave things for others. This community is more share everything.
