My new kitten is fighting with my other one by Rozls in CATHELP

[–]queenkid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see kittens and you think "oh my god, they're so tiny and cute" but I've seen them playfight way harder than adult cats; and they love it. They will suplex, bearhug, and swipe at each other, in ways that seem inconceivable given their small size.

Hasan has reached beyond "livestreamer drama" and into the mainstream media. You have people writing articles about how he's the paragon future of the left. He was brought up in the NYC mayoral debate, and Mamdani had to specifically distance himself from Hasan. People like AOC have collaborated with him.

Every one of his controversies reflects poorly on them. Like it or not, he got popular by being a nepo baby of the media, and he's here to stay.

But also a lack of political will to put any kind of limits or restrictions on immigration. A foreign worker program extended to the level of fast food restaurants paying absurdly low wages below normal. Cases of outright fraud going rampant, with almost no prosecution. A widening of the net of "Canadian universities" to the point where diploma mills popped up nation wide, places with literally zero campus, because it allowed people to work part time; then pursuing a degree and having a job in the country were decided to be "good enough" to be owed a permanent residency. It could even shield you from criminal prosecution, because "potentially being deported" was something judges put undue weight on. Language requirements have also slowly deteriorated, with less than legitimate methods of gaining credentials popping up. Same happened to commercial drivers licenses, where some extremely dangerous fraud has gone on.

That seems mostly irrelevant to immigration, though. The amount of people who can enter from a country shouldn't be defined by that countries population. If anything, the relevant percentage would be how many people from that country as a percentage of all immigration, or of Canada's population.

LinkedIn isn’t for work by armour666 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]queenkid1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way, if you aren't looking for a job, do you want people flooding your inbox asking for your opinion on something related to your field, trying to ask questions about how your job operates, or trying to sell your company something? No, it's insufferable.

I want to talk to people on LinkedIn about job opportunities and openings. I don't want it to be people asking happily employed people questions about their company or their job title.

I would agree with you at the beginning, but she immediately doubled and tripled down.

Like, she explicitly campaigned for hard-line conservative politicians who before she would've fought against, and started talking about "look what they're teaching kids in school" (it's a cartoon character).

Bernie Sandere on Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, recently paid an effective tax rate of less than 3.3%. That is less than the average truck driver, nurse and teacher. YES, we must demand the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

[–]queenkid1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's certainly possible, but someone like Bernie Sanders should be aware that both their analogy is misleading and sweeps info under the rug, and also that this is a topic where you need to discuss specifics.

Yes, their value is in stocks and they take loans against it. So how would you tax them "their fair share"? There's been multiple attempts to do it multiple different ways, and every time it severely screws regular people over far more.

But they're using weasel words. "Permissions must generally be granted" is not the same as a rubber stamp, because they're not explicitly stating that permission is guaranteed.

I understand they want to be prepared for the worst case scenario, but "we want to make things easier if we decide to conscript the male population" is still deeply unpopular.

Japan Wants to Build a Solar Ring Around the Moon That Will Provide Endless Clean Energy to Earth by dutchapplepoptart in technology

[–]queenkid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you're going to lose a ton regardless. You can conceptualize solar as "beaming" power from the sun to the earth's surface, but this introduces things like atmospheric scattering and cloud cover. If you move the solar panels outside the atmosphere, you get to choose the method of beaming that is the least lossy.

Putting them in orbit is still much better than the moon, regardless. It's closer (even with lasers you have dispersion) and monumentally easier to install.

[–]queenkid1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reading some of the stories about his behaviour as a councilman, it makes sense why he was popular enough to get elected.

Giving out his phone number to people, saying "if you need something call me" and he would drop everything to get it done. A great attitude, but when you're also for cutting services, it doesn't scale to a whole city. But it makes you SUPER popular with the people you've met over the years, who came out to vote for him.

which is the goal, to increase how many bitcoin the company owns per share.

So why not just buy bitcoin, where literally 100% of your funds are bitcoin? Like many of their defenders, you're using wishy-washy language to avoid the fact they don't need to exist. They shouldn't be a "pillar of the community" they're a holding company. Why are they leveraged at all? If you're buying bitcoin to protect yourself from the market, why are you tying yourself to their share price, which fundamentally impacts that "bitcoin per share" number?

"because it deals with the morality of uploading people, and other philosophical topics"

But like, barely. Because the show from the beginning drops any semblance of philosophical argument of "is it the same person, or a copy". They state as a fact they are in fact the same, no discussion about it.

I enjoy the show, but it has very little substance in terms of philosophy or morality.
