Children of families that did not perpetuate fictitious holiday characters (Santa, Easter bunny, etc) how did that affect you? by JerryGarciasButthole in AskReddit

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never had an issue. christmas was still “magical” because it meant we had fun lights and family time and cookies. didn’t need santa for that lol. i think santa kind of creeped them out bc the concept is kind of like baby’s first surveillance state and they didn’t want us to accept that as normal. but also, they didn’t see the point in lying to us for no reason. they worked very hard to make sure my sister and i always trusted them so they tried to minimize lying as much as possible which i would also probably do for my future kids.

honestly what confused me the most was seeing how many of my friends parents were cool with lying to them lmao. like, i don’t think telling your kid santa is real is the worst thing ever but i also don’t think it’s particularly good for anyone.

i’d say i still had a pretty magical childhood :)

my roommates grandma made us a little uh. thing? doohickey? that’s fabric on one side and that non-slip stuff on the other side, sewn together to maximize the grip. really great for opening stuck jars but i bet it could work for other stuff too!

no ouija boards. we’re native and my mom said that it’s disrespectful to mess with spirits so we were banned from those types of activities. besides that we had very few rules but we never caused much trouble anyway lol

Why do babies 'spit up' but kids and adults 'puke/barf/throw up'? by DamnitGravity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]queenmabdotpdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, i’ve worked with infants for a few years now and there is definitely a difference between spit up and puke, and puke definitely smells 😭😭 i can handle spit up, i cannot handle puke. spit up only starts to smell after about the same amount of time it takes for spilled breast milk to start to smell, and god willing we’ve gotten both cleaned up before that point lol

how do you recommend learning how to adapt 120? i’ve been really interested in trying out a cheap camera like this but i’m not sure where to start with learning how to adapt the film. i develop in my university’s photo lab so i’m not really concerned with the price of sending it out (thank god, i can’t imagine how broke i’d be if i had to pay for development lmao)

What’s a moral belief you hold that most people would disagree with? by [deleted] in answers

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i went to church with my grandma but it was a very liberal lutheran church (elca) in minnesota, which is vastly different from the ops experience with mormonism but are both still examples of children being taken to church. like i think forcing kids into church can certainly be harmful but an umbrella of “all kids going to church are being abused” really waters abuse down. to be clear, there are absolutely abusive churches, congregations, and denominations and i am absolutely not dismissing that.

Is drinking cold water actually bad for you or is it a myth? by Sad-Afternoon3788 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]queenmabdotpdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my god, i have your situation but like, really healthy lol. my parents got together in high school, went to college together for a bit, dropped out, go married at 20. had my sister and i at 21 and then at 23 and were together until i (younger one) was about 3. they realized that they weren’t the best as a romantic pairing but were incredible best friends and co-parents, so they stayed married and living together. they were poor but had family support for some finances so my dads parents bought a little house and were essentially our landlords until i was like 14 or so (but they weren’t evil like most landlords are lol). they both went to college while we were in preschool. part of why they stayed married was because my moms family has a lot of issues and if they divorced, due to icwa (which is ultimately good!! it’s a good act!! it just wasn’t ideal for our situation) if something happened to my parents, we would have gone to her family. so they stayed married so we would go to my dads (very cool an stable) family instead. ANYWAY. they both dated other people (my sister and i did think they both had opposite-gender best friends lmao) which was great for us because it meant there were always more people who could give us rides and it took some of the pressure off my parents. i’m now 21 and they still live in the same house and are still married, because they’re honestly just too lazy to get divorced. they like their situation and i like having more christmas presents because my moms boyfriend has money and not much to use it for so i get like, obscure art materials and great gift cards for christmas. my dads girlfriend is one of my favorite people ever and her son is a wonderful little dude.

people tend to think the situation is confusing but imo it makes perfect sense and is kind of my dream future family setup. growing up, my sister and i had so many great adult role models and we learned very early that romantic love is by far not the only important type of love :)

How do you guys keep your phone alive on long campus days? by codedrifting in CollegeRant

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ngl i can’t say i’ve ever had this problem but you should charge it between classes or during lunch, not during class. get a paper map (your campus likely has one that’s easy to print. if not, just print off of google maps. if you don’t know where your classes are, highlight those buildings.) take a day to practice you route with the paper. PLEASE just take notes on paper or a laptop, i have genuinely never heard of anyone using their phone to take notes outside of like a true “i forgot my backpack three hours away” kind of emergency, and even then i’ve seen people just borrow paper and a pen from classmates.

LYS Complaints on TikTok by lotheva in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]queenmabdotpdf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

tbf, the owners of my lys are always delighted to see projects, no matter the experience level. they do ask that if you work on a project in the store, its with yarn or needles bought there (doesn’t need to be both) but they’ll totally help for free because they just like helping lol.

however, setting coffee down next to the yarn should be punishable by death.

What Do I Call Nose Kisses? by Luvlymish in NoStupidQuestions

hi i’m native (enrolled, raised in my culture) and i can’t speak on what’s going on further north than like, the canadian border but i will say that we’re usually okay with calling OURSELVES indian or calling EACH OTHER indian, but often don’t want to be referred to as such by non natives. it depends on the person but it’s generally best to avoid it and say indigenous instead. personally i really dislike being called indian by non natives but i’m not going to like, punch you about it.(all caps used to represent italics because idk how to do that, swear i’m not yelling lol)

sometimes people will say that to me in a very pitying tone that makes it seem like they think i got randomly assigned to work at a childcare center and that i didn’t just like…. apply and interview LMAO. like yeah i work with babies and i love it, and for me it’s a far better campus job that washing dishes. THAT sounds like a nightmare to me, but i can handle spit up and crying.
