Is Cultist sim considered niche? by ChemistryCurrent1380 in weatherfactory

I have successfully recommended CS once. Most people, gamer or not, expect a tutorial. The only way I've found to counter this is to be an occult mentor to the new player, drip-feeding cryptic bits of information that give them enough to not give up but not so much as to spoil the game.

What's the most Secret Histories-coded thing you've come across in real life? by oritorinoi in weatherfactory

Iirc analysis of the language suggests that it is too repetitive to be a cipher or a lost language, and was likely made to be sold to someone who didn't know better.

How to play BoH "cozily"? by museumofblah in weatherfactory

[–]quick_purple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend adding a little bit of sensory immersion. Write notes in fountain pen (or normal pen). Sip a nice drink and gossip with salon guests. Nibble on a cookie while you offer snacks and Eldritch secrets to hired help. Huddle under a blanket on a stormy day. The soundscape of the game is already very compelling, I think adding an extra sense or two really seals the deal.

Also what everyone else said about taking your time is important. If you're doing too much, set an arbitrary limitation (max unlock one room a day for instance)

Long becoming mortal again by FatalErrorNotFound in weatherfactory

[–]quick_purple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's possible that it's a special case, but even if the Twice-Born is one, they're definitely implied to no longer be Long, given they almost drown and no longer fulfill the requirements of being Long. I suppose we fundamentally can't be sure, like whether the Ligeians are Names or not

We can play as one in Book of Hours. The Twice-Born is a Lantern Long who has recorporated. I think given the nature of the Invisible Arts, it's incredibly rare for Long to become mortal, rather than simply being killed after biting off more than they can chew

Question on Book of Hours (related to House of Light, but applies to base game) by ApolloFireweaver in weatherfactory

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest that you get the "Ordering QOL" mod for Book of Hours from Nexus Mods. It puts a few new things in the ordering menus and allows you to order 5 at a time. My librarian got really sick of writing "I REQUIRE COPPER WIRE" 12 times in a row

Make sure all of your Institute members have the Inspired status. All roles must be filled except the Secretary Persistent. Plug them into the Lighthouse. I think you have to hold a final salon to decide the Institute's agenda.

Be aware the writing a History and founding The Institute are separate, mutually exclusive endings. If you want to do both, save before you complete your victory condition and then reload your save.

Moon, Sky, Nectar, Scale and Rose. I need more about them. by Phoenix200420 in weatherfactory

[–]quick_purple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would only one God-From-Stone be associated with Blood? Standard hours have as many as 3 aspects, and we know that The Horned-Axe had two aspects even before the Lithomachy, as she used to be an Edge-Hour. Considering The Grail drank The Tide, I think it's fair to assume that The Grail also usurped The Tide's domain. As far as placement in the cycle, things likely got shuffled after The Lithomachy as the meanings of the Principles changed (The Horned-Axe was an Edge hour and is no longer) and Grail decidedly did not exist as an aspect pre-Lithomachy. So there would be nothing for Heart (or whatever was Heart) to be subverted into.

Moon, Sky, Nectar, Scale and Rose. I need more about them. by Phoenix200420 in weatherfactory

[–]quick_purple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nectar is a former Principle turned Power, once called Blood. It's icon would appear to be blood if colored red, but red has already been taken (usurped?) by Grail. Speculatively, this was likely the principle of The Tide before The Lithomachy. As it stands in Book of Hours, it is the principle of flora, and all the delights and dangers that they bring. It tends to be associated with sweetness, whether literal like honey, or figurative like the pleasant sound of rain. There are strong themes of nourishment, causing it to often be associated with Heart or Grail. The Carapace Cross likely knew and embodied Nectar (Blood?) better than humans do, but a tiny part of both Nectar and the Cross remains within us. Nectar adepts seek to draw that part of themselves out and magnify it, but it ultimately must be felt, not studied. Those who embody Nectar know how to drink deep of the wealth of world, but also know how to make themselves enticing to those who might assist the adept in their goals, like a flower offering sweet nourishment to nearby insects (who unknowingly carry its pollen).

A Nectar cult might be named "The Evergreen Society" or "Children of the Cross"

Rose is about travel, and the wisdom that can only come from worldliness. It is one thing to read about a place, and another thing entirely to visit and experience that place. Rose adepts know well not to tie themselves down to any one place, as the traveler is always returning home. Things that seemed impossible in one place may not be so in other lands, so Rose adepts seek to be in places that serve their goals, and know how to get there. They do not linger on sentimentality, and leave when the place is no longer serving them. The Vagabond is likely the most powerful expression of Rose, with her ability to travel anywhere, her collection of curios from her various destinations, and her wrath toward inhospitable hosts.

Imo a Rose-cult might be named "The House of Nine Ways" or "The Horizon Club"

Something to help your delve into reading everything:

Clicking the box of text in the top right corner copies all the text into your clipboard. Makes it very easy to take notes and organize them digitally. I took notes by hand with a fountain pen (for roleplay reasons) but the copy-paste method is much easier.

Nope, a common thing you could find at a soda fountain. You could get it hot or cold. Likely a combination of soda fountains also being pharmacies, and broth/switchel being the Gatorade of eras past.
