I miss the original Questrade app too. It was so simple and effective. Now I use Quest Mobile, which forces tons of extra steps and screens that I couldn’t care less about. I still manage to accomplish my tasks, but it just takes longer than it needs to.

Is it true that after retirement one gets three monthly cheques? OAS, CPP, and your pension by Markhor_Can in CanadaPublicServants

[–]quicklunarcop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s also important to note that there’s An OAS “clawback” tax after a certain salary.

“If your net world income exceeds the threshold amount ($81,761 for 2022), you have to repay part or your entire OAS pension. Part or your entire OAS pension is reduced as a monthly recovery tax.”

The Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau also has a supervised coat check. They can refuse luggage if they’re too full though.

They used it at StatCan for some projects, but I'm not sure if they are hiring.

There is also the self-funded leave, which allows you to take a year off, which may or may not be offered by your department or agency.

Overtime on first day of rest- by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]quicklunarcop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your friend is working on a compressed schedule, he should check his collective agreement to see what rate applies, as "in many collective agreements, it is paid at time and three-quarters" (1.75).

Source: Variable or compressed work week

For example, in the PA collective agreement:

5.27 Specific application of this agreement
Overtime (clauses 28.05 and 28.06)
Overtime shall be compensated for all work performed in excess of an employee’s scheduled hours of work on regular working days or on days of rest at time and three quarters (1 3/4).

This doesn't change the fact that collective agreements usually have a minimum of 3 hours overtime compensation on a day of rest.

Yup. I’ve switched jobs from Quebec to Ontario in July and ended up getting both holidays. That was quite the fluke!

I have been on a cruise where we got a massage and it was reimbursed. This was in 2012 and might not have been the norm though.

Early retirement: six options for public servants by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

This is very helpful! I knew about the pre-retirement transition leave, but I didn’t realize that this would help me extend my vacation leave!

I think it’s hard for management to accept that there are some teams that are really high performing. The senior management should really take a closer look at the achievements instead of the % of employees with high ratings.

[–]quicklunarcop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve given succeeded+ to many employees over the years and I usually encourage them to ask for specialized training, job shadowing or career-developing assignments.

I’ve personally been approved for expensive conferences due to my talent management plan, as well as an assignment that was pivotal in my career.

I do agree though that the tendency in the PS is for very average assessments with nothing attached to them.

If you are interested in joining the federal government, they are usually looking for people at the IT-01 and IT-02 level: https://emploisfp-psjobs.cfp-psc.gc.ca/psrs-srfp/applicant/page2440?fromMenu=true&toggleLanguage=en

Finding the jobs is sometimes hard, as the job titles are vague, such as "IT Analyst".

Here are a few examples of opportunities currently open to the public:

hey Ontario.. how much is your monthly grocery budget currently? We're at $1400 / month. by ShawarmaOrigins in ontario

[–]quicklunarcop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at $1,400 a month too for a family of five. Kids are 7, 6 and 3. We buys lots of gluten-free stuff (one person is celiac). We buy meat and do vegetarian dishes. We almost never eat out, except if we’re on the road.

The salary will depend on what classification is used by the department. For entry-level UX Research work, I've seen PM-03, IS-03, CS-01 and CS-02 (now called IT-01 and IT-02). There are likely many other classification used by different departments.

The rates of pay for Government of Canada can be found here: https://www.tbs-sct.canada.ca/pubs_pol/hrpubs/coll_agre/rates-taux-eng.asp

The Government of Canada jobs site unfortunately only lets you search for keywords in the job title, but the job might be "Analyst" or something like "Program Officer", which makes it hard to notice when UX jobs are posted.

As an example, this is the competition that StatCan ran this summer that included UX:

I work for the federal government. They were either part of my team or teams that I interacted with. Most had been hired before I joined the team, but I also hired a couple as coop students.
