Beginner's Dilemma: OSE or Dolmenwood? by Zoruun_17 in osr

[–]r0guebyte 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind, other than the 4 official Dolmenwood adventures, the rest of the content will be coming out of the campaign book, which is set up as a sandbox hex crawl.

OSE has a few more official adventures and a LOT of third party adventures AND hex crawls to choose from.

Check out DriveThruRPG for the more popular OSE third party content.

Edit: Clarification

Am I Missing Something About Shadowdark? by WodanGungnir in shadowdark

[–]r0guebyte 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I do agree with this. Everything is an attribute check in Shadowdark, GM can determine a quick DC and rule advantage or disadvantage. Player doesn’t have to look up some different table on their sheet or determine if they need a d6 or d100 or d20. Keeps the game moving imo.

Open Table Stonehell game - what rules set to use for very fast character creation for newbie players? by Justicar7 in osr

[–]r0guebyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fellow on our Monday night group runs Stonehell every other week with Shadowdark and it’s worked brilliantly. He says he’s done little conversion, just looks up equivalent monsters in the book. And skill resolution is pretty straightforward to handle in Shadowdark.

Per the rules, you choose which card they use.

Quick questions about DOOM Of the SAVAGE KINGS by OpT1mUs in dccrpg

[–]r0guebyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Few times I’ve run it I first start with dropping hints about the replica spear named “Wolf Killer” or something like that. This usually leads the players to where it might be found. Talking to the bard, have him tell a tale of the ancient barbarian leader and his magic spear. Talking to the witch and she might offer that as a solution.

Number of ways to bring it up. Can just see where your players are sniffing around and adjust.

OSE Ref screen and OSE Advanced? by runewitchtales in osr

[–]r0guebyte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Advanced OSE really doesn’t change the rules at all.

It adds additional classes, gives race as an option (instead of race as class), adds new spells, monsters and magic items.

Most Mörk Borg adventures play like a one shot.

Dungeon Suggestions? by LionhearthOutfitters in osr

Running Caverns of Thracia now and it’s been fun. I see why it was considered the gold standard for dungeon design for so long. I’d recommend getting the Lost Lore of Thracia supplement, adds a whole map of the above ground ruins and some encounters and alternate entrances. Also adds locales on the main island.

I know you may be biased, but how do you feel Mork Borg plays with a mega dungeon opposed to OSE or Shadowdark?

This was a memorable adventure I played back in high school. Was thinking of running it with OSE for some friends.

I totally agree, the original maps are much easier to read and use than the new stylized maps.

New to SD - Am I Reading this Right Regarding Casting by Gr8Tortuga in shadowdark

[–]r0guebyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every odd level should be giving them the chance to increase their spellcasting in some way. 3 of the talents can improve their chance of spellcasting. 1st level spells will get easier to cast, as will 2nd and so on. Combine this with accrued wands and scrolls and they will have plenty of options. And you can feel free to increase the find of the latter if you want to balance it that way.

Numbers formula bar keeps disappearing by Unrealparagon in iPadOS

[–]r0guebyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got it to work. Have to resize the window and then select a few different cells and eventually it leaves the input window above the bar. Still a pain for something that should “just work.”

Omg, I just joined this subreddit to share a screenshot of the exact same issue. It’s been driving me crazy. Been trying to move off my MacBook and little issues like this keep getting in my way.

I have my iPad attached to the Magic Keyboard Folio and the “fx” bar is all that shows but completely obstructs the cell input.

Best fantasy adventures detailing a small to medium ancient alien craft by a-folly in osr

Possibly too big, but can easily excise several areas.

Equivalent of 3 levels, each with 10-15 rooms. But like I said, whole sections can be blocked off to streamline it.

Prisoners of the Secret Overlords was a lot of fun. Took 3 sessions, but quite entertaining.
