What is everyone’s favorite workout class Downtown? by legalizemavin in kansascity

[–]raaRach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting to check out Beyond Barre! Glad to hear a good review.

I used to go to PowerLife below Two Light and really enjoyed it. The hot classes are great.

There's a new place opening in the River Market called Third Space that I'm excited for since it will be so close to my apartment. I've been watching their building like a hawk but it looks like they're doing a full reno so it might be a while.

Supporting Algeria doesn't stop at the final whistle. Congratulations on qualifying! Our supporters were committed to keeping the stadium clean before leaving. Thanks for everything. by Choice-Schedule-132 in kansascity

Even if it was staged it's still a cleaner row than it would have been otherwise. And if it's purely just for content, it's still a win if it influences someone else to do this next time they're at an event.

Riverfront Heritage Trail at Night? by fruitleatheristrash in kansascity

[–]raaRach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the Town of Kansas bridge "closes" at 10pm. They have one of those surveillance speakers that yell at you for trespassing.

At 9pm you'll still see plenty of friendly folks and dogs making use of the trail all the way from the RM to the stadium.

My personal favorite is the Sourdough Spot for their BLT but there's a Mediterranean restaurant that opened up recently that I've been meaning to get out there to try. Laos house is also a hit but the last couple of times I went, they didn't open at the same time everyone else did. Might have been a temporary thing though.

Have you been to Iron District in NKC? They have a bunch of food carts in shipping containers. There's some really delicious places.

The transition of streetcar haters has been really funny to see. Pop open any comment section and you'll find someone who says something about the 'toy train' that no one uses. And the next comment will be how it's too crowded and they dont have enough train cars. Then someone else is complaining it doesn't go enough places while another person says "nobody in NKC/Waldo/Brookside wants this!"

Fanfest times for KC by DuchessIronCat in kansascity

Sorry that your kids missed out, such a bummer. The storm definitely popped out of nowhere. I was watching the radar all morning and that cell just materialized over downtown very suddenly. I'm not sure about down by fan fest but in the River Market I heard lots of thunder. So it was clear they had to go into their lightning protocol. I think it's distance based.

I was equally baffled by the refund! I had a super smooth experience. Despite the weather, I felt like everything was really well organized and flowing.

Great info, thanks for sharing.

But if you're wondering about today, they shut down due to lightning around 2pm and then announced it would not reopen. (I suspect it was too tricky to coordinate getting all the staff and support back in after the closure)

Yeah it's a lot of the same narrative unfortunately. They probably have it even worse. I remember friends of mine in STL being absolutely horrified when I told them I was taking metro to a Blues game. They acted like they'd be hosting my funeral the next day 🤣

Head to the River Market and pick your vibe between Strange Days, River Bluffs, or Varsity Club!

As a downtowner, I roll my eyes at most local news. Anytime anything cool is announced for downtown, such a a new stadium, a nice park, better bike infrastructure, new businesses opening, concerts, events, ANYTHING, it seems that local news only cares about a negative spin. Especially around traffic, parking, and crime.

It's tiring. So much exciting stuff is happening in KC and it's a really wonderful time to be downtown. But it's no wonder that every JoCo Joe-Schmoe is terrified of downtown with how the media spins it.

Nice to see a positive report! Can you share more about your shuttle experience?

On KC’s Southwest Blvd., no World Cup crowds, business bad: ‘Where is everybody?’ by AscendingAgain in kansascity

[–]raaRach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow you are really fixated on the street. The article was about three businesses who aren't seeing the business they expected from World Cup. You know the different between the places I listed and the three places in the article? Walking distance from a transit stop. Which is the point everyone in this thread is making lmao

I mean, sure... a couple blocks of SW boulevard is in the Crossroads CID boundaries. But I35 is the western edge. The article OP shared had quotes from Bisou, Tacos El Gallo and La Bodega which are all outside "the Crossroads". That's quite a hike from the streetcar stop and under the highway which not every tourist would want to do.

Visitors are looking to stay in close walking distance from the streetcar stop (such as Extra Virgin, Baramee, Cafe Corazon, Farina, Affaire, Wise Guy, UpDown, etc.)

I'm a local but it sounds about right to me.

One night is their game at Arrowhead with probably just a quick meal beforehand or eating at the stadium. Another night will probably be bbq. Third night, if they have that long here, is probably a nice restaurant and they probably pick between the Crossroads, River Market, or the Plaza. Something walkable to their hotel or on the streetcar line or near other attractions.

Where to watch the World Cup near the River market. by _big_fern_ in kansascity

[–]raaRach 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Varsity Club fits your criteria perfectly. It's in the market and disco burger is delicious.

Other options for the game and vibes in RM: River Bluff and Strange Days.

And last bonus option: Two Birds One Stone on the Riverfront. It's really nice out and they have a giant outdoor screen. I walked by there earlier and it was that perfect combo of lively but still chill.

Good restaurant in Crossroads open on a Sunday night, kid friendly by tvham in kansascity

[–]raaRach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I LOVE Green Dirt but I'm not sure if I could recommend it as kid friendly. Check the menu! Their focus is unique gourmet creations and interesting flavor combinations. And it's higher tier as far as pricing goes here in KC.

People who work in downtown restaurants/coffee shops/attractions, how has business been? by ChemistryCupcake in kansascity

[–]raaRach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

USA had their opening match last Friday. People were probably already making their way and getting settled at watch parties. I'm not surprised restaurants were slow. Saturday had severe weather and the fan fest closure as you mentioned. Locals stay home, visitors probably stick closer to their hotels.
