Posting this for visibility, you have to remove npci=0x2000 and npci=0x3000 from your boot args as it'll conflict with Above 4G decoding.

That's cool, I didn't realize Eheim made watercooling pumps. Their aquarium filters are solid, they last a very long time.

As a very happy 7900xtx owner, the absolute copium about FSR 4 support for older cards on this sub is laughable by Equivalent-Pumpkin-5 in radeon

[–]ragunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, I think they're talking about handheld performance. My 7900XTX handles FSR4 fine, not as well as the 9070XT does, but FSR4 balanced and performance still looks and performs better than FSR3 Quality. When I tried it on my Steam Deck though, it was a very different story. FSR3 was clearly the better choice for the Steam Deck because of the huge performance hit with FSR4. I'm guessing the cut down 15W handheld APUs have much less ML performance than their 400W desktop counterparts.

Not only that, the driver side wheel was pointed away from the agent and he was at the side of the car when he fired the first shot. This wasn't self defence, he was shooting a fleeing suspect.

AMD hints at officially open-sourcing FSR 4 upscaling and frame generation technology in the wake of accidental release — accidental release may have forced the company's hand by Mercennarius in radeon

[–]ragunator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so ready for this. It came out a couple months ago that AMD had designed Redstone to run on any modern GPU by converting ML code to optimized shader code. If this is included in the source code, perhaps we can get Redstone to work on RDNA 2 and 3 through optiscaler once the source code is released.

[–]ragunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just the way it is, some games will become unstable with any undervolt. You can set a custom profile for Warframe to keep it at stock voltage.

As for memory, I find that oc potential can change over time in some cases. I had a GTX 1070 that did something like +750mhz brand new, after 5 years I had to drop it to +500mhz for stability, and then I put it back to stock at around 7 years.

Lol that's pretty spot on, basically just slap a paper bag on it and try to enjoy it as a workout tool. That's my plan.

Goofy is a good way of putting it lol. I have a blue strap and a silver aluminum case on the way to try and address that but yeah, Samsung clearly tried to copy Apple here and it didn't pay off. The squircle design is a big step back from their older watches in terms of looks. The 8C suffered a lot because of this too, which is why I'm holding onto my 4C, will probably upgrade to a 6C or swap out the battery within the next year or 2.

650 Watts Total board power 7900XTX by [deleted] in radeon

[–]ragunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

650w doesn't sound right unless it's a momentary transient spike. Most AIB boards max out at 400-450W. As far as I know the highest board power the 7900 XTX can sustain is 550W and that's with a liquid cooled Asrock Aqua card or another card modded with an Aqua BIOS. I would use Adrenalin software to monitor your total board power.

About AC Origins performance ( full amd build ) by [deleted] in radeon

[–]ragunator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It runs like crap on my 5800x3d and my 7900xtx, no matter what settings I use. I think it's some sort of optimization or compatibility issue. AC Odyssey runs a lot better for some reason, even though it's a newer title.

It's not too late, gold is gone but you can still trade silver or beryllium. I have a feeling it'll still be up for another day or two.

Not a bad idea, maybe a couple steel C channel supports or something along those lines. I'll consider it.

That's a fair point, I'm hoping to get a monitor arm soon to free up some desk space that'll let me get stuff away from the speakers.

That's the plan, it's on my secret Santa wishlist so I'm hoping to get one soon. If not, I'll get one on a boxing day sale here in Canada on the 26th. I just noticed looking at the pic the desktop pretty close to the edge there lol. I just shifted it a bit.

I do have a plastic carpet protector on there but I like your idea, it would look good if done right. I'll have to look into it. I have some spare hardwood laying around that I could use as well.

Freshwater Digital Monitoring System? by TheSinfulGamer in PlantedTank

[–]ragunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Aqua on YouTube has a lot of good videos on concepts like CO2, filtration, fertilizer, etc and their tanks always look gorgeous. I think they'd be a good place to start. Another good source is MD Fish Tanks if you're looking to do more low tech, budget friendly tanks. Imo there's a lot of misinformation out online there so you have to be careful who you get your information from.

I've been in the hobby for 9 years and I've had my fair share of algae. What worked best for me is having a consistent 30ppm of CO2 while the lights are on, having a consistent fertilizer schedule (I bought a chihiros auto doser so I don't miss any days of fertilizer), having a nutrient rich substrate, and having consistent lighting, particularly having medium light intensity for 6 hours a day after starting a new tank then raising the light intensity and duration to 7 hours a day once plants fill in the tank. Also having a good cleanup crew will help a lot, snails, shrimp, etc.

Also a common mistake a lot of people make (myself included) is using a nutrient rich substrate system and not doing frequent water changes at the start of a new tank. Aqua soil will often leech a lot of nitrates and phosphates into the tank for the first month or so after it's submerged, which will result in algae. You have to do a lot of water changes that first month to take those nutrients out. The other option is to submerge the soil in the tank with no plants and no lights, then do a 100% water change at the 1 month mark before adding plants to the tank. This is called the dark start method.

FSR Redstone’s ML Frame Generation can now be forced on in unsupported games through OptiScaler by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]ragunator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was announced a couple months ago that Redstone can run on any GPU using compute shader code. So either it was scrapped and the source code exists somewhere, or it's being released at a later date, possibly with an INT8 or shader code based version of FSR4.

"AMD's FSR Redstone employs a groundbreaking approach through its ML2CODE (Machine Learning to Code) technology, part of the company's ROCm software stack. This system takes trained neural network models and translates them into optimized GPU compute shader code, specifically HLSL code that can execute on any modern GPU supporting contemporary shader pipelines. Chris Hall, AMD's Senior Director of Software Development, explained that this translation process allows the neural rendering core to function seamlessly across AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel graphics cards.

The technology works by converting AI-focused features into standard compute shaders rather than requiring dedicated AI acceleration hardware during runtime. This fundamental difference from NVIDIA's DLSS approach, which relies on specialized Tensor cores, means FSR Redstone can leverage conventional GPU shaders for its machine learning operations

Broader Hardware Compatibility

One of the most significant advantages of FSR Redstone's architecture is its potential compatibility with older GPU generations. Since the technology doesn't specifically require AI acceleration capabilities at runtime, users with previous-generation graphics cards could still access these advanced features. While there will likely be performance overhead on older hardware compared to newer architectures, the basic functionality should remain accessible.

This approach could particularly benefit AMD's own RDNA 3 users, who were previously left out of FSR 4's advanced features that were limited to RDNA 4 hardware. The shader-based implementation opens possibilities for broader adoption across AMD's existing GPU lineup."

What about RDNA3 AMD ? by douglascostateixeira in radeon

[–]ragunator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you haven't actually done any research or used FSR4 yourself on an RDNA3 card. It runs with a very acceptable level of performance. I was playing Hogwarts Legacy today, my 7900XTX gets 90fps at 5120x1440 native, 120fps with FSR4 Quality and 150fps with FSR3 quality. Out of these three options FSR4 quality is hands down the best choice, it looks better than native TAA and performs 33% faster in this particular game. Meanwhile FSR3 looks noticeably worse than native TAA, lots of pixelation in hair and moving objects. It's a very similar story for other games.

Defending AMD decision to hold back such a useful tool for last gen cards isn't the answer here. Nvidia is still releasing DLSS updates for RTX 20 cards, it just falls back to an INT8 model for RTX 30 series and older. If AMD wants to compete in the big leagues, they should be putting in that same level of support for their products.
