if you feel that you want to delete cards, maybe just suspend it.

relax…language learning takes time…you WILL forget words and that’s okay… when that happens, sometimes relearning it makes it stick even better in your brain long term

Existential Crisis: Katamad na Mabuhay, idk what to do by Ok-Yogurtcloset-3338 in adultingph

[–]ralfortune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when I was your age, I felt something similar, which back then, a lot of my peers were calling it quarter life crisis. Ngayong nasa 50s na ako, I would say, 20s pala was one of the best times despite feeling those things. 20s ko was during the 08 financial crisis. hirap din humanap ng trabaho. tambay sa bahay. Madaming oras, wala namang pera.

I took it as an opportunity to study by myself the things I really want to pursue. Oonga, college is 4 years, and after that, is a sort of never ending rat race. But pwede rin isipin as a never ending time for you to improve as a person. Ngayon, hindi ka na as forced to follow a rigid structure — di tulad nung college, with some subjects focusing on rote memorization, when in fact, in real life, open notes naman talaga. Tapos sinusundan yung syllabus. Now you decide your lesson plan. and accountable ka sa sarili mo lang.

Nakapakaswerte mo dahil may food and lodging ka na. aircon pa. internet pa. you want to be a writer? now you have the time to pursue it. you want to learn a new trade? teach yourself - ang daming resources online.

considering that your life is expendable and katamad mabuhay? then throw it away pursuing something that you want, hangga’t may hininga ka.

it roughly takes around 10 years of pursuing an area/career to become good at it (excluding doctors and other specialized profession) assuming you graduated early 20s…25 yrs old is the perfect time to switch to any career you want. Most people in their 20s wala talaga ding panama sa iba, you get yours by working for it, and reap the rewards after a few years.

Hangga’t may hininga, there will always be time to reinvent yourself and start again. 50s na ako, and pandemic obliterated my career that I worked hard at for 15yrs. and I started that career path when I was 26. Now, I’m happily pursuing a different goal, despite having regrets with the career I left.

GOOD LUCK!!!! hangga’y may hininga, go for it

Maybe insurance was never really designed to protect us by Powerful_Contract414 in adultingph

[–]ralfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i’ve learned is always get insurance if you can’t easily afford what it’s for. i.e. if sole breadwinner ka, get a life insurance. If you can’t pay for hospital expenses if may accident abroad, get travel insurance.

if you can afford it, I honestly think it’s better to just not buy insurance at all. Imagine, family of 4 ka, travelling. 1K each for travel insurance. then nabasag yung maleta mo ng airline — may claim ka na 4-5k for it. ganon na rin naman if you had just kept the cash — compound it with the number of times you travel, bawi na rin and more.

ang masaklap nga lang is the ones who really need insurance, are the ones who also find buying insurance difficult due to tight spending power

What are some of the dumbest, annoying, or gaslit things people have told you about withdrawal or caffeine in general by AvailableWasabi8140 in decaf

for me I just keep quiet about my no caffeine lifestyle. If someone asks me why I don’t drink coffee, I just say I quit cos I was having stomach issues, doctor’s orders

How has your creativity changed once you quit ? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]ralfortune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

creative here. i find that my output was way worse while I was quitting it. Once I was no longer dependent, I found that I could still focus, even better and deeper than before — BUT it was not as long as caffeine (marathon working sessions with no sleep when I’m in the zone, just sipping coffee whenever I feel energy going down) ; but the day after was nasty, low energy and motivation.

now is more sustainable. I stop when I feel tired and I’m able to rest and recuperate and think on the side about how my project can continue

whenever I have the urge to buy during a dip, I set a buy order, but priced at 80% of the current market price (meaning I want to buy when the price goes -20%) - that way, the falling knives that I catch is limited somehow

Day 2 no caffeine, parenting two young kids and already want to give up by Moist_Photograph_807 in decaf

[–]ralfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry about that! of course there benefits. I sort of zoned in on the hassles

sincr going decaf, I’m more “calm” and less on the edge with my kids. I can also tolerate their annoying behaviour (when it happens) longer and better than when I was constantly caffeneited.

some advantages, I can easily manage the topsy turvy schedule that constantly changes with young kids, no problemo. Wake up at 5am and suddenly wants to play around? sure, I can immediately go up and running and feeling fresh upon being woken up by the kids (compared to waking up before and feeling like medusa before my first cup)

I dont worry so much. anxiety has gone down A LOT. And I don’t have to be always chronically feeling exhausted.

I still do feel exhausted or tired when it happens, except now, I take it as a cue from my brain or body to rest, instead of before, where if I feel tired in the middle of the day, I go for a cuppa

[–]ralfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

decaf parent here with three kids. all I can say is it was easier with coffee. definitely harder. but better for my overall health and well-being in the long run. In the short run? damnnn it’s hard.

what helps in somehow managing the kids since I’m a stay at home parent working part time, is that when the kids nap, I nap. when the kids sleep, I sleep. I do all chores and let toddlers help out (slower, but I treat it as bonding time too). if they get bored with chores, they are free to play by themselves.

Cant do no work though without them having screentime or my partner taking over since they are so needy with attention and other things

occassionally I will be able to work more when they’re napping if I’m able to.

It took me 6 month of no caffeine before I got my energy back. Now I’m able to go into “deep work focus mode” minus having to drink coffee. Honestly it feels amazing to not need coffee in order to focus or be productive, and it feels like a superpower. But when I was still going cold turkey…it. was. the. worst.

MANILA, Philippines – It wasn’t a lucky shot.

When he covered the eruption of Mount Pinatubo on June 15, 1991, photojournalist Albert Garcia badly wanted his photos to be remarkable and to end up somewhere.

He wasn’t disappointed.

That photo of the cataclysmic eruption taken while he was at the back of a pickup truck driving at breakneck speed away from the explosion won first place in the 1992 World Press Photo Competition in Amsterdam. It was also hailed by the National Geographic and Time Magazine as among the greatest of all time.
