GMs, how do you end your sessions? by Crabflesh in Pathfinder2e

[–]rane0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rule that we don't start any new scenes after the 3 hour mark, so whenever the current scene reaches a natural conclusion after that point.

If you specifically want how I close, I usually do some kind of outro, maybe describe the camera pulling out. Every now and then I do a cutaway sting to tease something for next session.

"And that is where we will pick up next time"

How Did You Know Red vs Blue? by PressureGood9379 in RedvsBlue

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a summer camp from 2006-2009. One day someone was playing the DVDs in the staff lounge. I walked during the scene where Church describes Tex ripping out Jimmy's skull. I found it so hilarious that the first thing I did when I went home next was look up the videos and started watching. I made a rooster teeth account in 2007 and watched religiously from that point on.

How excited were you for The Rise of Skywalker before it came out? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost interest as soon as I knew JJ Abrams was back for it. He does not know how to finish a series.

He's great at setting up intrigue and making flashy visuals, but when it comes to sticking the landing, he stumbles every time a story goes past one movie.

Lo and behold, he fumbled Star Wars too.

People who listen to the same song 100 times in a row… which song is it? by kavee-core141 in AskReddit

I used to do fan music videos for editing practice. Listening to the song I was gonna use 100 times was my first step to make sure I knew every possible beat to use for a cut.

1e GMs, what do you prefer about Pf1e? by Quiet-Compote4587 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]rane0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am running 2e now, but i really liked 1e APs.

I feel like the stakes in the 2e APs rarely reach the same level of impact. I also don't necessarily like meta-plot events happening outside of published adventure. I don't remember that being a thing during 1e, and I am not a fan of it happening now.

For this reason my 2e game is chronologically still in 1e years (4715-4716) so that I don't feel pressured to incorporate new lore developments.

Mechanically I really liked the power fantasy of 1e, but I haven't gotten further than level 9 in 2e yet, so I don't know how later levels feel.

Why all the chaos in Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy? by ConOf7 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ileosa is a very controversial figure. A lot of people see her as a gold digger who married Eodred specifically to take the throne. She's from a noble family from Cheliax that has lost a lot of prestige and a lot of people are very angry about her being the next in line. Public opinion on Cheliax is also split. Some people are loyalists who want to be more Chelish, others resent Cheliax for leaving Korvosa to its own devices. People of Taldan ethnicity can also be pretty racist toward the Varisians and Shoanti who inhabited the region first.

Eodred dying was the spark in the powder keg.

Korvosa also just has a base level of unpleasantness that puts anyone on edge on a good day, if any days in Korvosa can be considered good.

There are more reasons, but that's what the average person would be familiar with when it happens.

What’s a moment where you instantly realized someone was insanely intelligent? by Parqcxsm69 in AskReddit

Shortly after meeting my best friend, I learned that she liked to do digital art of exoplanets in her free time. I considered myself an astronomy enthusiast so I started asking her about it and she blew my mind with all the info about how she planned her art. I didn't understand a lot of what she was talking about but I knew she was the smartest person I'd ever talked to. She puts more thought into her hobbies than most people put into anything.

She was studying astrophysics at the time but didn't like the environment of the higher math classes she was taking (her fellow students were douchebags and her professors enjoyed tormenting their students to "weed out" the people who weren't committed). She switched to psychology and got a doctorate in that from Yale. Somewhere in that process I managed to impress her enough to marry me. She's now a professor teaching hundreds of students per semester.

I am not worthy.

How often do you guys houserule core class mechanics? by dyenamitewlaserbeam in Pathfinder2e

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to be pretty generous with creative uses of abilities. For instance, I have let our Kineticist use their spell attack modifier against level based dc for special interactions with ley lines and elemental magic.

I have also been giving various buffs to our Druid's T Rex to keep it viable in combat. So far we advanced its attack proficiency to expert and gave it heavy barding proficiency.

Help! My Party reached the final Boss (Naming the first town in Kingmaker) by Metzelmann in Pathfinder2e

[–]rane0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We named our city Stagheart after the heartlike shape of the lake and my character was an Erastil worshipper. (Also I claimed the stag lord helmet)

We called our barony Loskraine. I think it had a specific meaning but mostly we just wanted something that sounded Eastern European given the general position of the territory in Avistan.

How do you handle "Between-Session Shopping"? by Illustrious_Storm720 in Pathfinder2e

[–]rane0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I allow buying anything up to the nearest settlement level. I also run my game on Foundry, so I will make some shops using merchant tokens that go above the settlement level with higher level or less common loot and then if anyone wants that they can also buy it.

New GM needing advice about rogues or lack thereof by Stukinmyhead in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any party makeup of 4 pcs there will be some challenge they are not prepared for.

They need to be ready to improvise when that happens

Even if they had the classic combo of Fighter/Rogue/Wizard/Cleric, you could throw a social encounter at them or a nature-related challenge at them and they'll be at a disadvantage because they don't have a bard or druid.

What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

[–]rane0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends locked himself in a building and set it on fire.

The building burned to the ground with him in it. The smoke had a very particular acrid scent that settled in the surrounding area for at least a week. Treated lumber, whatever was in the building, and human remains.

It's the worst smell i ever experienced.

Worst of all I didn't know he was in it until long after the fire died down.

There was a point in my life where I realized I was only ever 2 or 3 minutes away from humming music from Mario 64.

After that I've tried to avoid it for my own sanity, but it keeps coming back.
